    2013 Civic LX
    James C.

I had an awesome experience working with Wyatt and JJ! I was badly in need of an inexpensive, reliable car, as my own car had a blown power steering module. After doing thorough research online, I knew right away that I couldn't afford to go through a Honda dealership. I then stumbled across the Discount Auto Gallery, and the ridiculous prices they had for some awesome Civics. Too good to be true, right? Well I did what any logical person would do, and I immediately went to Yelp to check their reviews... Overwhelmingly positive! I felt reassured about checking out their cars. I called and scheduled an appointment with Wyatt, who had me meet up with JJ later that same day. JJ is awesome - super laid back and also knowledgeable about his Civics (probably all of their cars too). We test drove a perfect 2013 Civic LX coupe, and the car drove wonderfully. I let JJ know that there was a certain aspect of the car that needed to be fixed, as it was a deal breaker for me, and he assured me that it would be taken care of the next day. Sure enough, it was! We worked out a price that would work out for both of us positively, and honestly there was ZERO haggling involved. We used the numbers from Kelly Blue Book to come to a reasonable agreement, and that was that. These guys are not sleazy, pushy salesman who are trying to turn a big profit. Their business is set up to sell in volume with low overhead costs, so they can afford to get you a car at way below KBB value (bought my Civic for 3k less!). Thanks so much for your help guys! This was easily the best car buying experience I've had (though it was not without some hitches due to my bank balking at the last minute). I hope you guys are still pumping cars out when I need a car next... And hopefully that's 10 years from now! Highly recommended!

2013 Accord LX with 35% tints all around (per request!). Thank you Wyatt and JJ for your professionalism and honesty!

Clearly someone needs to be in charge of greeting customers as they pull into the drive and wait to be assisted. Unfortunately, not one person made eye contact or even acknowledged that I was there. It's awkward just standing there feeling ignored while waiting for help. The valet guys were mostly standing around looking at their phones. A simple "Hello, someone will be right with you" would have gone a long way. Once I was finally assisted, the staff was great and very professional, so this really comes down to first impressions. Customer service starts the moment a customer arrives. Hiring a greeter -- or simply encouraging staff to acknowledge customers and SMILE -- would make a huge difference.

On my last scheduled service, I told the technician that the front windows have screeched ever since I bought the vehicle. He looked at it during the service, said he knew what the problem most likely was and furthermore, that's it's a commonly known defect with Toyotas windows. Despite all of this, I would have to make a separate appointment to have them officially looked at. I went in today for my appointment and was immidiately told I had to pay a $200 inspection fee. When I objected, they said it's technically only signing for liability, and if they determine the issue was due to "external forces" then I'd have to pay the fee. So essentially they can determine anything at all is wrong with the vehicle outside of Toyotas control and I'd have to pay. So despite the issue being present since purchase, me having documented conversations with a technician who knows the problem, and the fact that you can literally hear the window screech up and down as I talk to the employees, they want me liable for $200. What's the point of 2 years of Toyota Care and a warranty if you have to pay to use it?

They had priced it fairly according to Kelley Blue Book. We had test drove a similar van at another dealership that was actually more expensive and not in nearly as nice shape as the one we bought from Baldwin. They allowed me to have my mechanic come out and do a pre-purchase inspection. The only flaws he found fall under basic maintenance and normal wear and tear on a used vehicle. As the van was already priced under valuation I made them a fair offer on it and they accepted. It was about as clean and easy of a purchase as I could ever expect. By the way, the negative reviews on here made me hesitant to check out the van at all. But when I read the negative reviews on here, they are from folks who either couldn't qualify for financing or bought a vehicle that was really old with high mileage. So complete your due diligence on a vehicle, find out if you can qualify for financing, and have a mechanic check it out before you buy. I did all those and got a great deal.

The automotive market has changed drastically--sub-$10,000 used to buy a solid, reliable car, but…read morethose days are gone. Today's used car buying experience often boils down to three things: Conviction, Conjecture, and Concealment. My experience buying a CBUA inline-5 from Baldwin Auto showcased all three. Concealment: Despite paying above-market price for a vehicle with over two dozen exterior body defects and six damaged interior items, I was willing to accept the cosmetic flaws if the mechanics were sound. Unfortunately, critical issues were hidden: The Battery: Every time we visited the lot, the battery was actively being charged. Right after purchase, it completely collapsed to 4 volts. Fuel Tank Sender: On longer drives, the sender sticks, causing the fuel gauge to drop straight to zero. Our PPI missed it, but an extended test drive would have caught it. Missing Accessories: The spare tire, tire kit, and floor mats were all removed prior to sale. Contract Loophole: Instead of standard disclosure, the 3-day California Contract Cancellation Option (cool-off period) was framed as something sold to us, modified to 5 days for an additional fee. Conjecture: Noticing evidence of a past oil leak, the salesman (Don) claimed, "All engines consume oil," citing broad manufacturer disclaimers as an absolute fact. While some engines do, not all do--presenting misinformed opinions with authority is misleading. Conviction: After sitting on the lot for over two months, the car suddenly had two "other interested buyers" the moment we were making a decision. An incredible coincidence designed to force a quick sale. Takeaway for future buyers: If you are set on buying a specific vehicle from Baldwin Auto, assume there are hidden issues and make it your job to find them. Take a much longer test drive, insist on the standard California cancellation option without inflated fee structures, and be prepared to pay a restocking fee if necessary rather than getting stuck with costly, concealed repairs

By choice. That's another story. But, I had no credit history, no down payment, and saw an ad on Craigslist. A day later, they had me in a vehicle with a very low down payment (that was flexible) and a very low monthly payment. Paid the loan off in 4 years. I now began my journey for another, better, vehicle. Every dealer from South Bay to Carlsbad said no. Went on Craigslist again and ran into the same dealership. Messaged them at 8pm and they replied within minutes. Next day, they had me approved! Not only for the vehicle I wanted, but with a decent monthly payment. Because of my work schedule, I was not able to get to the dealer until the next day (Friday). That evening, I was driving home in MY new (used) vehicle. On top of all of this, the vehicle I originally wanted was at their other dealership in Orange County. They drove all the way there to bring it down to Escondido for me. I felt bad because when I got there, they let me test drive another same year, make, and model vehicle, but wanted this one instead. I still test drove the one I originally wanted but they had no issues with me changing my decision. I mean, c' mon! That's some customer service right there. I'm telling you. While I bought the car expecting a vehicle that needed almost no service, there is nothing in this market nowadays like that. If a vehicle is traded in and especially from auction it's a problem car. Even dealership get fooled so I would never buy an auction car. Having said that in this case the CarMax dealership is a clear winner in all of this mess. Sadly. I had a bit of a "tale of two experiences" at this location. I recently purchased a 2019 Lexus RX 350, and initially, I was ready to give a 5-star review. The sales process was incredibly smooth--no pressure, the paperwork was efficient, and the staff at the Dan Way location were professional and welcoming. However, the "after-care" has been a different story. Shortly after the purchase, a mechanical issue arose that was clearly covered under the 30-day limited warranty. While I expected a quick fix, the service department has made it incredibly difficult to actually get the car in. When there the team could not diagnose the issue and asked to have me return if the issue persists. However; The Challenges: * Scheduling: Trying to get an appointment was a headache. I was told they were "extremely busy" and couldn't see the car for over a week, despite it being a warranty issue on a car they just sold me. * Resolution: While the issue is technically "covered," the hurdle of getting it diagnosed and repaired has turned an "easy" buying experience into a stressful ownership experience. I love the Lexus, but the service side of this CarMax needs a major overhaul in terms of accessibility and customer support. If you buy here, just be prepared for a potential fight if anything goes wrong during your warranty period
