Walked outside of The Slaughterhouse last night to catch a ride from UBER. While my friend was on the phone a Discount Cab driver kept shouting at us to take his taxi. Instead of getting the point the driver begins to wave a binder at us demanding we take a look at it. I knew what it was...it was a binder full of lawsuit cases filed against UBER and the driver was trying to make a point that taxis are better. Instead of leaving us alone after refusing to look at the binder the driver continues to harass us by yelling "UBER SUCKS" out his window. I can't believe the continuing nonsense I've dealt with from Discount Cab. There is a reason why college students and young adults use UBER now. read more

I had went online and booked a cab. I booked it on Monday and my cab pick up was Friday. They ended up being a little more than 20 minutes late for picking me up. That got me pretty mad. But once I was in the cab, the driver was super nice and that made up for being so late. If he was on time, I definitely would've given them 5 stars, but seeing I was going to the airport and they showed up almost 30 minutes late, that's why they get 3 stars. read more

I called discount taxi the evening before placing an order to be picked up at 5am to go to the Tucson airport. I chose Discount over Uber because I had more confidence that an established taxi company would show up at the appointed time. By 5:15 am Discount was a no show. I had to scramble and drive myself to the airport, find parking, and hassle with Christmas airport security because I arrived late. Extremely upsetting and disruptive. Halfway to the airport at 5:30 am I received a call from a Discount driver that he would be at my house in 5 minutes. I told him I had already left and he apologized but commented he had received the dispatch just minutes earlier. So, if you have to be somewhere important and need to have confidence that a taxi service is going to pick you up when promised, go elsewhere. I cannot recommend this company. read more

I was told it would take 15 minutes for a car to come to me on the University of Arizona campus and I specified my cross streets. 15 minutes later I get a call that the driver didn't see me. He was not given my cross streets and when I told them to him he couldn't find them. I was on 2nd street. The street on which the streetcar runs. Definitely present on any map. Then it because clear he had the address for the university of Phoenix. The Internet school. I don't know about you but the ability to find an address is pretty important in a cab for me. read more

I've used them three times now. Every time I've been told 5-25 mins. 1st time took right under an hour and the second time took only 10mins. Why I called a second is beyond me. And the third time I had to cancel my cab because it took over an hour and no call or text. After I called them to find out what was happening. I was told there wasn't even a cab on the way. Discount is exactly what you'll get. We didn't find any significant savings in what they charge however, the "service", or lack thereof, is where the real discount comes into play. We called for a cab to the airport. Upon arrived at our house the driver got out opened the back hatch and just stood there as we (not so young folks) struggled hoisting our bags into the vehicle! I had a ride to the airport scheduled for 5:30 am to catch a 7:00 flight. Called at 5:40: Him: Discount Cab, this is [name]. Me: Hi [name], I had a 5:30 ride scheduled, and I haven't seen a cab yet. Him: What's your pickup location? Me: [Address of the hotel] Him: Are you Matthew? Me: Yeah, that's me. Him: I don't show a cab on the way. We should be able to have one there within a half hour. We've been using Discount frequently for a couple years now and have had many really good and a few really bad experiences. Truthfully most of our problems have occurred since the company took over the para transit contract in Pima County. Seems almost impossible to get a cab in the morning or afternoon (peak times for para transit) and have noticed more issues with dispatchers and getting accurate wait time approximations since the change. Generally though, the cabs are very clean (we really appreciate not having to put our groceries on a greasy tire in the trunk) and the majority of the drivers are polite and professional. I just wish managers were more receptive when we call in with issues about our rides as some other cab companies seem to be. read more

These people suck. They never show up on time, be ready to wait for over an hour when you call them, they will tell you 5-20 minutes wait time but when you follow-up after 30 minutes - they will give you another 5-20 minutes and sometimes they will even deny that there was any booking made by you. Most pathetic service. Update: 4/22/2015 Pamela M. from Discount Cab replied to this feedback on 3/30/2015 and asked me to share details of incidents. I sent an email on the same day discount cab customer care. I have not received any response or even acknowledgement till now (more than three weeks since I sent email). I was a loyal discount cab user until about 6 months ago. Something happened in the business. I keep trying them and they just worse and worse. Today I am now yellow cab person. I used the Total Transit app and ordered my cab. About 10 mins later the app told me "no cabs in area would you like to call?" I did. Made my order and 10 mins later had a cab. As I walked to the cab the app said "john is on his way". My cabbie told me the app is still in the new stage make sure that I cancel so I dont get charged. I got charged for the cab fare and a cancel fee. The app will charge you for the call its a $10.00 cancel fee. That stunk! UPDATE - Was told on 10/31/2014 I would receive a refund since I did take the cab. Its now 11/13/2014 still waiting for the refund. read more

They charged my card 3 times, saying it was declined 3 times. My friend had to pay the bill. The next morning, according to my bank my card had been charged 3 times. I called this company 4 days in a row, only to be told that "Rosie" would call me back, or that "Rosie" wasn't in the office. Furthermore, I was told that they were having "technical difficulties" and they would call me back. You better believe I never received a call back. We booked a reservation 2 weeks before our flight for a 5:30 a.m. pick up. We called them at 5:45 and were told that no taxis had arrived yet for dispatch. Thank Goodnes we had a car and just drove to the airport and parked for 2 weeks. Actually the parking was cheaper than the cab would have been, but the convenience was lost and certainly our sense of thinking we had it all taken care of. Called 24 hours in advance to order a cab for 4am to bring me to Tucson airport because I didn't want to bother my friends at such an early time. 10 minutes before the scheduled time, I called again to confirm, and they said they would call a driver to pick me up at my house, but nobody showed, so I called them at 4:15 am to aks what was wrong. First, the person on the phone said, he couldn't find my reservation (even though they confirmed it just half an hour before). After I told him that he checked again and found it, but said there was nobody on the way, and he could call a driver now, but that would take a while. So I ended up calling a friend in the middle of the night to give me a ride in order to catch my flight. If I had been alone, I would have missed it. Mistakes are only human, but this sort of thing defies every purpose of a tax company and should not happen. read more

I use Discount Cab about once a month. When I schedule my pickup (calling in or on line at least 24 hours in advance) I always allow an extra 20-30 minutes in order to rectify the usual screw-ups in arrival time or scheduling. I estimate that I have been picked up within ten minutes of the scheduled time 40% of rides. I have waited as long as two hours for a cab, with dispatch either telling me the cab was five to ten minutes out or that the ride had been cancelled when I called to check, without rancor, several times. Drivers have been invariably courteous and helpful, with only about 15-20% doing little "oops" tricks to add to the fare. Here's what I have learned: Dispatch is in Phoenix; Tucson is the step-child. Drivers are independent contractors, not Discount Cab employees; drivers pay Discount to use the cabs. Peak traffic times are the most difficult at which to get an on-time ride, noonish and school dismissal among them. Pre-scheduling rides works only slightly better than calling for an immediate pick-up; calling in or on-line makes no difference, apps notwithstanding. Pick-ups 40 minutes past due are apparently automatically cancelled from the schedule. I suspect that the company sees their business as being more of a numbers game than a transportation "service," meaning that they make their money by having X number of drivers for Y number of hours on the street, rather than having "satisfied" customers, per se. I suspect certain hot spots, e.g., the airport, and contracts are their bread and butter, not random rides. Discount Cab pick-ups are a crap shoot. read more

You might be better off walking. I arranged for a pick up at 4:30AM My driver called and said he was in front of my house. I politely told him that since I was on the sidewalk I knew for a fact that he was not in front of my house. Then he told me he was definately out front. I have lived in this house for 17 years dude, I know where I keep my shoes. He was 10 blocks away. He informs me that he is now coming my way. Driver calls again I'm out front. Dude I'm still standing out front and you are not here. He is now only one block off. I tell him that he needs to come one block west. He informs me that he doesn't know which way is west. The driver finally arrives 25 minutes late. I just want to get to work, so I get in the car. He is swerving and unable to maintain in his lane. So, I ask him if he is okay? He is just tired. We arrive at my work and the meter reads $27.20 but he tells me its $27.70. When I ask why the meter amount and the amount to my card are different he says "Just pay and get out." I just paid and got out. I called customer service and asked why I would be charged an additional $.50, oh yeah if the driver had to wait for you he can charge a $.50 fee. Fine and dandy I understand that completely. However, I was waiting curbside for 25 minutes while this guy screwed around and got lost. Customer service assured me that they could not care less and there was nothing that they would do including apologize. I called a towncar to take me home, it was more affordable, nicer, and my dude knew east from west. Walking, busing, skating, horseback, cow, or Emu may all be better options than Phoenix Discount Cab. read more

If Yelp would allow a Negative 5 star rating, that's what this miserably run company would get from me, and then only if I was being nice. I don't have time to go into the dozen plus times these yahoos have either not shown up or gone to the wrong house. I won't bore you with the number of times I've had to call back a 2nd time, then wait to finally speak to a human, to ask them where on earth my damn taxi is or with how many times the dispatcher has been thoroughly unhelpful. Instead, I'll give you my two MOST RECENT experiences: Two days ago I was going to me 2nd day at a new job, so since I've had trouble with this company so many times I made sure to call them nice and early. (I use them only when Orange Cab is too busy.) The "automated system" asked me to punch in just the street address of where I wanted to get picked up. I hit my street number per usual and the automated system asks me to confirm my street address. Then it says "your order for immediate taxi service has been booked. Your taxi will arrive shortly. Goodbye." Now, it doesn't say how long it's going to take but 95% of the time that I actually speak to someone they ALWAYS quote 5 - 15 minutes. After 20 minutes I called back, had to follow a bunch of prompts and then hold 5 minutes to speak to a person. She told me that the cab was 5 minutes away. After waiting 10 minutes and still no cab, I call back again. Now I'm angry. I demand to know where the cab is and the woman I spoke to has the audacity to tell me that "We're actually on a 45 minute wait now, so technically our driver is not late." She didn't apologize for the inconvenience or try to even *listen* to my concerns as a customer - this moron defended her company's inefficiency and incompetence. If I could have jumped through the phone, I would have. When I told her that the "automated system" does not quote you a wait time, she sounded irritated and said, "Yeah, we's trying to work on fixin' dat." When I asked her how I could avoid this happening AGAIN she recommended that I use their website and order several hours ahead of time to guarantee a cab arriving at the correct time. Cut to today. I thought I'd give it a try. Because I'm a idiot and a masochist. I go online and order a cab for 2 hours and 15 minutes from the present time. It confirms my order for a cab to arrive at 4:10 and I've given them nearly 2 and a half hours notice. At 4:20, I call them back, follow the prompts, wait several minutes to talk to someone. I ask where the cab is and this man tells me the location of the cab in Tucson, which translates to about 10 minutes away from me. When I asked to speak to a manager, or file a complaint, he asked me why and what did I want to speak to a manager for? I told him of my many complaints and that I had ordered a cab for a specific time. He told me that "Ordering a cab for a specific time does not guarantee that it will arrive there at that time." SO THEN WHAT IS THE POINT OF ORDERING THE DAMN THING AHEAD OF TIME!? I said, "The website doesn't say that. It doesn't say, oh by the way, psych! We're just kidding. See you when we get there, sucker!" It just says, "Here is your confirmation number!" You know who doesn't give a rat's ass about my confirmation number? My boss when I'm late twice in the first week of work, that's who. When I finally asked the guy I was speaking to, "Is there not a manager or someone that I can talk to?" he got very defensive and told me "This entire time we've been talking I've been working to pass you through to our escalation department." Okay, escalation department? Really? He was just as much of an uninformed douchebag as the woman I spoke to the day before. These people are trained to avoid your questions and say whatever it is they need to say in order to shut you up. They don't care about your problems, your complaints, your life, your schedule, your needs - nothing. They're the biggest cab company in Phoenix and Tucson and not only would losing just one customer's business NOT affect them (and they know it) they KNOW that there are not any other options legitimately out there. They've got such a monopoly they can treat you however they want to treat you and feel no consequences. I've never in my life experienced a company run as poorly as Discount Cab. No matter how many times I've asked to speak to a manager, I've never been given an opportunity. They will make excuses and talk to you like you're a nuisance to them. Half of the drivers don't seem to know their way around and often take you out of the way and you get to sit in the back and watch your meter go up. You basically need to scream at them to get them to follow your suggestions or directions. Screw these guys. I don't care if I have to pay more for Uber or Lyft, I will NEVER use these jack-offs again. read more

I needed to travel to work with a broken leg, so I called Discount Cab and specifically requested a cab that could take debit cards. The cab arrived, drove me to work and when I tried to pay, the driver informed me he could not take debit cards. I didn't have cash because, of course, I couldn't get around with the broken leg. He was nice about it, and radioed his dispatcher to see if they could process the payment. The dispatcher told the driver to take me immediately to the nearest police station to have me arrested! The driver, of course, refused and we had a good laugh about it. He took me to an ATM and I got him some cash, but I will never use this company again. On Friday, I scheduled a pickup for 4:15 am the following Sunday for a ride to the airport. Sunday morning I sat in front of my house for 40 minutes waiting for the cab. I called them 20 minutes after the scheduled time and was told that I should have called them on the phone to schedule instead of using their online scheduler. I explained that I had a flight to catch and was told I should have scheduled the pickup at least two hours before my flight. My flight didn't leave until 6:00 and I'm only 10 minutes away from the airport! Then they told me that if they had known I was going to the airport they would have prioritized my pickup. I scheduled this 2 days before! They tried to find a driver but the closest was 30 minutes away. They then told me that the busy travel day was the reason they couldn't pick me up in time and it was based on availability of the drivers even though I had scheduled the pickup. I spent the next 20 minutes trying to find a ride and ended up having to wake my wife up to drive me. The final punch line is that as we were leaving the house, Discount called me back saying they could have someone there in 10 minutes! Too little, too late! read more

If I could give a zero review I would. Several days before our trip I called and booked a cab for 05:00AM. The night before, I called to confirm and there was nothing on their books so I re booked for the next AM. The day we were to leave, 05:00 came and went...no cab. Called and got a computer that said your ride has been booked and should be there shortly. By 05:15 I called again and got a person who told me it would be another 10 min. At 05:30 I put our luggage into my car and we drove ourselves. They would have needed to call for entry through the gate and as of today 6 days later they still have not called. My driver called me to check in before I was scheduled to by picked up. He actually arrived a few minutes early! The cab was clean and pleasant, and he got me to the airport with time to spare. After being 20 minutes late the driver was speeding and texting while driving I asked nicely 3x for him not to text why my 4 month old son was in the vehicle. I finally told him again and said if it continued I would be calling the police. My sons safety is not negotiable! So I spent 3 hours on the phone trying to file a complaint and I finally spoke to a supervisor who said they are just a call center she would pass the info on to a driver supervisor. read more

I've used Discount Cab twice now despite my first experience being terrible. First experience was a very long wait time which resulted in two different drivers being dispatched and when the other driver learned we had already been picked up, he shared some very crude words with me. Extremely unprofessional. Thinking this was a one-off scenario, I used Discount Cab in Tucson which also resulted in a disaster. We waited 25 minutes (quoted 5-20) only to learn that a driver still hadn't been dispatched. Waited another 20 minutes only to learn THE DRIVER STILL WASN'T DISPATCHED. The automated system they use disconnected me multiple times in trying to check on the late status, which furthered my frustration. I have been resistant to change but UBER is starting to sound like a better option in the future. Thanks for all the headache, confusion, and lack of professionalism Discount Cab.
