An updated review...upgraded for follow-up by the owner. These guys are nearby, and generally very likable with a very well stocked facility. Oddly, they opened a credit account for me, net 30 on my first service call. That was nice. My first 2 service calls seemed to go as expected, and we paid the invoices through our online banking system. On the 3rd service call for a controller re-program, I came away pretty disappointed. There are 12 configuration dip switches, all in the factory default (off) position. According to my careful reading of the installation guide, 4 of them should have been set to match our cleaner, spa, and heat pump, in the On position. If we were doing a full reprogram, shouldn't that have been checked? The original issue, collection efforts for my third invoice, still seem a bit aggressive to me, but its not my business. They do what they gotta do I suppose. read more

Beware of unethical business practices and price gouging! They gave me a quote for parts and labor to repair my spa pump for $1,800, repair some fractured tile for $500, and to replace my heater's thermostat for $400. The tile guy came first. He removed the timer pins to disable the main pool pump while he was working. After he was finished, he reassembled the timer and it didn't work anymore. So I called the shop to report this, and was told that they would replace the timer when the tech was there replacing the pump. No mention of a charge to fix what their employee broke. The next day, the other technician came by to replace the pump and thermostat. He examined the timer and stated it broke because the timer pins were reinstalled incorrectly by the tile guy, which caused the timer motor to trip and break. He replace the timer as well. So I get the invoice and there's an extra $140 charge for the timer part, an extra $335 for "extra labor," and $500 for the thermostat (not $400 as I was originally quoted). What a sucker punch!! That's $575 more than I was originally told! So I emailed Mike, explained the situation, and he replies with the most unprofessional and petty email, laced with insults and name calling. I couldn't believe it! So I replied back that I would pay for what I was quoted, and not pay for their tile guy's screw up of destroying my timer. Mike replied back that he would discount the invoice $80. Nope. I'm not paying an extra $500 for non-disclosed price gouging. Their business model is very deceitful. I will be taking my future business elsewhere! read more

I won't even recommend Discount pool(DP) to my worst enemy!! Mar 2019, my elderly mom hired DP to replace all the copper pipes in the 30yrs+ pool system due to leak. We met with mike for a quote, he upsells a switch value, pool cleaner inlet&new return lines, since he won't be changing the bottom drain pipe, instead will plug the bottom drain. We also had others quote, DP was in the mid-range. Been shopping at DP for 15+yrs, knowing they been around for a while&have a store location, we went with DP. The entire job was done by only 1 guy in almost 2wks. Upon finished, I went to my parents to check out the job&noticed a few problems, 1) No pool safety value cover installed 2) The new pipe arrangement is blocking DE filter tank 3) Old pipes left open into the ground w/o sealing. I spoke to the guy, he said that is how it's done, it is very difficult to communicate with him as he speaks broken English, my mom called mike, he agreed to check, someone show up in a few days, basically told us nothing can be done unless we pay to rearrange but said the pool safety cover should be installed, but he doesn't have one with him. My mom call mike again&he finally agreed to rearrange&sealed old pipes at no charge! The same guy who did the whole job came back to fix it, but still didn't bring the safety value cover, someone else had to install it days later. After all this, we turn on the system&the motor no longer works, we had to call mike AGAIN&he said they never touch the motor. mike came, checked&told us that because the pump had not been turned on for about 2+wks, it was burnt out?!?! Mind u the pump was less than 4 years old&working fine right before the job begins!! He offered to replace one at $900, I ended up buying a new motor&install it myself at a much cheaper price. Later on in the year, I noticed the patch work on the pool wall r dissolving, my Mom contact mike again&he said "I told u we don't do fiberglass patching!!", Yes u did tell us u don't do fiberglass, but u told us u will patch it up&never mentioned the material will dissolve&we need to hire someone else to patch it with fiberglass! If u had, we would never agree to open new inlets on the pool wall! Since we don't want to drain the pool again, we left it as is for the time being. Then in Feb 2020, we had a leak, we called DP again, mike came&said it was the old copper pipe that connects to the water heater!! I asked the job was to change all the pipes in the system, so why wasn't that changed? He said that wasn't part of the quote?!?!? And charged us a few hundred dollars to change only 1 of the copper pipe that goes into the heater. At this point my Mom is already fed up&doesn't want to deal with him anymore!! Now a week before thanksgiving 2021, there is another leak in the system, at first I thought maybe it is the badly patched holes, but water kept going down passed those points. I had others came in to check&quote, all said it is the pipe from the skimmer down to the bottom drain. I called mike on my parent's behalf, first thing he said to me on the phone about the leak was that "u had put in too much chloride"?! I was like, we use chloride tablets&it is almost $200 a bucket now, my Dad barely put in enough! Long story short, He agreed to come by in 2 days to check&indeed it is a leak in the pipe from the skimmer to bottom drain, I asked him why it wasn't sealed off during initial job, he said they probably test the pipe&it was good, so they DID NOT PLUG IT!! When the guy dug out the old pipes, it clearly show the old copper pipes are bad&u r telling me that it is not necessary to plug&u charged us for it?!. He gets real nasty&said it is way passed warranty, so pretty much either I pay to get it repair or else. It was Wed, he said to call him on Mon to see where the water level is, if its low, he can put concrete in the bottom drain&plug the hole in the skimmer, if it is still high, he needs to drain it first, either way he will see when he can "fit us in" &will cost a few hundred dollars!! I also told him regarding the patchwork badly dissolved, he took a look&said he will have the guy put in more material when they come to fix the bottom drain!! I thought about how he said he is going to put concrete over the bottom drain w/o draining the remaining water&since we had so many problems with them&DP still won't patch the holes with fiberglass,+no idea when they can "fit" us in&the pool had already been slowly leaking for 2wks by now. I went ahead &hired someone else who could patch both the inlet holes&bottom drain with fiberglass to avoid future headaches for my parents&cracking the pool, most importantly we don't want to deal with DP &mike ever again!!! Because of the unprofessionalism of DP, my elderly parents were stressed during thanksgiving with 20k+gal of water leaking into the house's foundation, when all this could have been prevented if DP had plugged&sealed the skimmer to bottom drain connection as they had quoted/charged us! read more

These guys are always great! I've called them twice for repair. My regular pool cleaning services is just that, cleaning. So when something breaks or need fixing I have to call the real professional! I have an old heater and its broken down twice. Twice I've called these guys and I'm amazed at how they can quickly repair the issue. I have had to call a couple of times before someone came out to fix it, but it's been fixed within 2 weeks of me calling. This company was totally ridiculous. I just need to change pool light bulbs. And reset the breaker. They asked me to change whole light set. And quoted me $2K+. Luckily, I was smart enough to get 2nd contractor to estimate. It only costed me $85 +bulb and total $295 to replace 2 light bulbs. Now everything is perfect. read more

I considered buying a new pump for our pool and figured I could do the work myself. The instore person warned me against buying a 2.0 hp pump to replace the 1.0 hp pump we already have. He took my name and number to have a pool tech call me for an appointment to come out. Pool tech never called to set an appointment, he just showed up at our house. The Tech said I need a 3.0 hp pump and wanted to charge me $1,700 for an install. I asked him if too much pump could damage the system he told me I should just always keep it on low. WTF? Then why would I want to spend money on the extra power? He had no answer for that. I asked him why I should pay $1,700 for a simple pump replacement when the actual pump only cost $700 on Amazon? He didn't have an answer for that either.I asked him to leave. I go to this store all the time, now I'm reluctant. Have they been ripping me off all these years? read more

We had Discount Pool Supply redo our pool. We changed the coping and tile and plastered. We also added a underwater bench. They upgraded our pool to code and moved our pool motor and heater to a better location. They changed the gas line to the larger diameter which is the new code. They also put in an automatic water filler. The workmanship is excellent and the workers were eager to please. Mike the owner is very nice, low key, and honest. Easy to work with. I don't have any complaints and would recommend to anyone thinking about redoing or designing a new pool. read more

Mike and his guys completely redid our pool with sand colored pebble bottom. They were very professional and did the job in the time frame we were given. We noticed a problem with the railing and told Mike about it. He came out and had his guys replace it days later with an even better hand rail. I can't say enough about the service and backing of his work. We now have a beautiful salt water pool with water that is the color of a Mediterranean sea! Hi Jeff, A year ago our HOA spent over 100k on pool work from you guys- including resurfacing. We are having calcium etching issues in the surface. As of yesterday, our manager Ross said he has left "many messages for Mike in the last few weeks, but no returned call". So I called today Thursday July 18 at around 10:15 am and asked to speak with Mike. Receptionist said she would check and see if he was there. She came back on and said he was not there and "would have to take a message". I asked if I could call him directly and she said she is not allowed to give out his # (strange- we spent over 100k and can't have the guy's # so we can discuss an issue? Well, I heard nothing back for about 20 minutes, so I called again around 10 35 and told her I would like to speak with Mike right away. She said she would let him know. Well it is 11 10 am and have not had a call back- and I at this point I really don't expect to get one based on the history of our manager not having his calls returned. (Well, I was right...it is now 4 pm and no return call from Mike...or anyone else from Discount Pool)This is apparently the service you get when you spend 100k with them- one wonders what level of service you get when you spend 10k or $10...??? Update: Well, Mike finally did call back on Friday at 1:45 pm and left a message that he was returning my call- 27 hours after I had called his office (remember, they would not give me his direct #) several times that Thursday morning and told them I needed to speak with him right away. His office told me they were sending him that message. Remember also that our manager Ross had sent me an email on July 16 stating that "he had left several messages for Mike re our pool for over two weeks and even called him again today" so it appears Mike was in no hurry to speak with Ross or me. Mike apparently showed up some time on Monday July 22 to look at our pool. I had asked Ross that morning if he knew what time Mike was coming and he said he did not know. I had a full day of plans so I was not going to wait around for someone who does not make returning phone calls a priority or whom our manager does not know when they will be there. So, today July 23, Mike leaves me another message that he returned my call Friday and that "I might want to put that on Yelp"... that "I was very low class"...that "maybe I was hiding from him when he came Monday" and that "I may want to try writing something positive" about him/Discount Pool. OK Mike, at your request- here is something positive: I am POSITIVE that you are severely lacking in customer service skills. I am POSITIVE that, based on your lack of customer service skills I will, as an Estates BOD member, always vote against awarding any future contracts or work of any kind to Discount Pools. I am POSITIVE that if any friend, relative, work associate, or random stranger asks me for advice re pool service companies, I will not advise them to contact Discount Pools. Discount Pool is an excellent pool store! I've been a regular customer for over three years, and I only have positive things to say. I take a water sample in almost every Friday, and they test my water (it's free!) and give me a print out that details my water's chemical levels and lets me know what chemicals to add. The staff that are in the store regularly (Dreama, Allan, Gabriel) are super nice, helpful, and professional. They always carry the heavy chemicals to my car, and Allan once gave me a step-by-step demonstration of how to clean my pool's filter. The staff go above and beyond what you'd expect. I've had a technician (Jesse) to my house to replace my pool's heater, and he was great too. The store carries every chemical and pool supply you could need, and as the store name suggests, the prices are good. This store is highly recommended! read more

We purchased pentair pool equipment from here for our pool & spa and spent tens of thousands of dollars; when it broke down, we asked them to come evaluate it and fix it. They came back to us and said that we would have to spend another $10,000.00 to fix it! They told us that it was the wrong configuration for our pool and that we needed to switch it out. On top of that, they wanted to charge us for the time to re-program it, coming up to several thousand dollars more! Additionally they had been mng servicing pool for several years, and we continuously had algae problems as well as calcium deposits on the bottom of a completely tiled pool. After the quote they gave us, we got a new pool company who has since got our pool regulated correctly so there is no more problems with algae or calcium, and they told us that our equipment was still under warranty, so it is being repaired FOR FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I only wish that we had changed pool companies years ago, and that I hadnt been ripped off by the not so "Discount" Pool & Spa supply! DONT HIRE THEM! THEY ARE A RIP OFF! read more
