Our friend Pablo says that J&W Lumber is the way Home Depot and Lowe's used to be. It's a real lumber yard. We were able to find things at J&W that are not even available anywhere else around Murrieta. We were assisted by Shawn, who was knowledgeable, courteous and on top of it all. Very pleased! .

A few days ago, they had several mid-century style pieces of furniture that were new. Seems like most of the furniture are manufacturer closeouts, or dent and scratches, This Habitat ReStore amazes me, because it is in a nice modern industrial building, which I have never seen Habitat occupy. The others I have been to , are in the oldest most run down buildings in low rent areas. However, as nice as this building is, you look way up at the ceiling, there is no AC or other cooling system. It was over 100 degrees when I bought this chair, outside temp. They leave the front door open for the breeze but you feel all the hot air, that is hotter than the temp inside the building. The employee at the cash register, near the open door where all the hot air was coming in, said "Yep, no AC". But if you didn't have air circulating, even hot air, it would be a greater hotter oven. They have a separate room, where they sell small stuff, not even related to building or home stuff, like bike helmets. The thing about this store, the things they sell here are newer, and not used and sometimes broken and chipped, like the other Habitat ReStores have. The donations come from manufacturers or commercial businesses rather than individual donors that are remodeling their homes, or got a new piece.

I buy toys throughout the year so I have a bundle to donate when collection time comes around. So my visit here was not wasted. My purchases were under $20, which kept me within budget. I figured it would be much cheaper/easier to order our top soil in bulk from Murrieta Landscape Material (MLM), rather than buying a ton of bags from Home Depot or another home store. I had 20 yards (that's a lot, in case you're not familiar with the quantity of yards - it filled our entire driveway piled about 7 feet high). I should have known something was off when it took repeated calls to arrange the delivery; but, unfortunately for us, I stayed with MLM. My landscaper arrived to begin work and immediately informed me that what was delivered was not top soil. The landscaper recommended to not use it for the yard, as it was essentially the same as the dirt we already had. So, I called Murrieta Landscape Material to address the problem. He essentially called me an idiot for not ordering planter soil instead, then said he would not do anything to haul away/replace the soil, even though I offered to let him keep the money from this delivery and to pay for the new soil. My question is, if he knew what soil I should be ordering when I placed the order in the first place, why did he not let me know. He just kept repeating that he had been in the business "for over 30 years" and kept inferring that I was an idiot. He even added in, "I guess you should have come and looked, huh?" What a jerk! I even sent pictures of the soil to other landscape material companies in the area, and all agreed that MLM basically took advantage of me, because MLM knew what the general population considers "top soil" based on what "top soil" is sold as in Home Depot, Lowe's, etc. Every company I spoke with essentially said it was shameful how Murrieta Landscape Material treated me and the entire situation. The takeaway from the story - DON'T USE Murrieta Landscape Material! They don't have customers' best interests in mind, only their own wallets. In my opinion, they are actively and maliciously dishonest and their customer service is absolute garbage. STAY AWAY!

So I went to Hanks…read morefor the first time a couple of weeks ago and they have loose screws and nuts and other parts sold by the piece just like Ace hardware. I made Hank's biggest sale of the day two hexagonal head metric screws for 27 cents each. I went to San Diego Ace Hardware in Clairemont Square, where they were charging 95 cents for each screw, vs Hank's 27 cents. I said NO, not paying $2 for two 1.5 inch screws!!! Ace employee said it was expensive because that is now much a METRIC screw costs. I took one of the screws back to Hanks 2 weeks later because it was too short. Hanks happily gave me credit for the 27 cents so I could trade it for a screw half inch longer for onlyh 5 cens more, or 32 cents, when Ace wanted 95 cents for a shorter one.

This will be our 3rd year getting rocks at BRM. We also get rocks for our fish tank. We like the place, the service and the people that wok there. The place is clean and we get to explore out back and pick our rocks. The staff is very friendly helpful with our question. My 7 yr old son enjoys exploring the place and the rocks.
