I am a foster with Ohana. A kitten I am fostering is sick with a temperature and eye gunk and Ohana sent me to Discovery Bay Veterinary Clinic, this was my first time there. The facility is clean, the staff are incredibly friendly, and the veterinarian who saw my kitten, Dr. Clara Burton, was clearly very knowledgeable and definitely knows her trade and has a passion for it. The experience was a very good one. The only issue wasn't their fault: Google Driving Directions had us turn into the correct parking lot but then told us our destination was on the right when it was actually on the left. It's the same building as the Chase Back, just around the corner from the Chase Bank, for anyone going there for the first time. My experience was good, highly recommended. read more

I have a bunny and my vet regular vet was full. They recommended this place. It's in a shopping center so plenty of parking. It has a big clean waiting room. The front office was okay. When it was my turn to go inside the room was nice and big. The vet i don't remember her name was beyond amazing. She took her time really checked my bunny. I never felt rushed and they gave my bunny an Iv. The assistants were also great. I was beyond impressed which the care they give here. He took the time to explain the reasons for reoccurring lip pyoderma in simple terms and discussed our next steps. Dr. Doug Gray deserves high praise for his knowledge and expertise in surgical procedures. After briefly being introduced to our German Shepard Chloe within mins he knew exactly what she was suffering from based off her symptoms. After a quick ultrasound Chloe was diagnosed with Pyometra just one day before her birthday. We dropped off Chloe the next day (birthday) at 8am and picked her up mid afternoon. Unfortunately we had to put our beloved dog Jersey down. He was a great fighter, but the Leukemia was catching up to him quickly. Again, I can't say enough about Dr. Gray and his entire staff. They took such good care of Jersey and Dr. Gray being the greatest Veterinarian ever examined Jersey very thoroughly to make sure that indeed what we were hearing was the lymph nodes closing off his airway. They gave us time to be with him, I tried to hold the water works back, but this dog meant so much to us that it was impossible. Dr. Gray performed the procedure all by himself and it went flawlessly, Jersey never knew what was going on,except that he was getting sleepy. In under a minute he was on his way to Rainbow Bridge. I want to always acknowledge Jennifer, she was and always has been the nicest person you could ever hope to meet. We chose to purchase an Urn from Bubbling Wells in Napa, since our last three dogs were cremated there, and in my opinion no one comes close to there beautiful urn's. Discovery Bay uses Blue Creek Pet Cremation, and they did a beautiful job. They took a clay paw print of our boy and the lock of his hair was exactly where I pointed to Jennifer to have them remove. One week later I was not ready to see my dogs ashes or to handle them from the velvet bag to the Urn. Jennifer happily offered to do that for us, she had no obligation, but she made the ending easier for both of us. Thank you Jennifer yet again. Took my 9 yr old Himalayan nethie rabbit here last December after I noticed him rapidly losing weight, hair, and having some irritation in one eye. Dr. Gray chalked it up to old age and his eye irritation to be an eye infection. He told me otherwise he was fine. My rabbit did look fine afterwards and his eye cleared up with the eye drops Dr. Gray prescribed, but he still wasn't gaining weight despite me adding more nutritious foods to his diet. A week later, his condition took a turn for worse and I had to take him to the emergency vet where he was tested and diagnosed with anemia and sepsis. I was shocked since I was basically told by Dr. Gray he was just aging and healthy. I had to put my rabbit down the next day. I decided to give this place one more chance and brought in my 5 month old orange nethie rabbit when I noticed his eye/sclera was red and irritated. This time we took him to see Dr. Liao who noticed white lesions in his pupil, but didn't know what they were and had to do more research (I thought this clinic was rabbit savvy?). She only prescribed him meloxicam for pain, nothing for his eye which I thought was weird. I got a follow up email the same day saying he most likely has E. Cuniculi and phacoclastic uveitis. She told me that in order to properly diagnose him he would need to take a E. Cuniculi blood titer test that would cost $459 and that he would most likely need surgery to preserve the eye. Dr. Liao did give sound advice and I followed instructions she gave (he will be seeing an ophthalmologist) but I decided to take him to a different vet for a second opinion where I was told that his eye didn't look like it needed surgery or removal. The price of the blood titer test they offered was also significantly less than what this place was offering. I wish I never came to this place or gave them a second chance. They should be honest with patients if they're not rabbit savvy, but obviously they want money and will overcharge you. There is no transparency or care for the animals they see. I feel like my first rabbit would have lived longer had I not brought him to this place. read more

We recently moved to the area and came here with our two dogs. The people seemed friendly (at first), but that was the only redeeming quality about this vet. Everything else is horrible from the way they peddle expensive monthly health subscriptions (not pet insurance ) to their truly atrocious record keeping. I did try to like this vet and I gave them so many chances, but it's honestly impossible to bring your pets here if you value their health, safety, and don't want to be ripped off. I probably should have just left when I brought my dogs in for a routine senior blood panel and they refused to give an itemized invoice. Instead the lady came in with a number written on a pamphlet peddling some "monthly health plan". She seemed offended when I asked for the industry-standard summary of estimated charges (aka an invoice ). Alarm bells were going off like crazy the way they acted like I was asking for the sun and the moon and all the stars too just to see what the list of charges would be. In my 20 years of having pets, I've never had a vet office balk at the idea of giving an invoice. They did finally relent, but it was the most awkward experience you can imagine. After that appointment, we tried to order the dog's routine heartworm medication and Discovery Bay Vet completely ignored our vet records that clearly showed the test had already been done just two months prior. They denied the heartworm meds and had us come in again, spending an absurd $300 to get a quick snap5 for two dogs. I didn't notice their error until I'd already paid for the expensive duplicate test with them. But the crazy thing is that when we brought the dogs in to do their heartworm test, this vet tried to double-vaccinate my senior dogs even though they just saw them and did the vaccines at the last appointment! Somehow they forgot that they had already seen them and they didn't have any record of the vaccinations that THEY recently gave. Luckily I had the receipt and didn't let them double dose my dog (or charge me again). So now we've jumped through hoops at this point trying to get routine heartworm meds and this vet denied the request AGAIN. My dog is barely over 50# and they kept saying that she needs the medicine for dogs up to 100#, which is massively over-medicating her. Finally, their senior blood panel doesn't test for the level of detail that better vet offices do, so they don't see important warning organ values. Our prior vet has kidney and liver enzyme tests that are more detailed than this basic senior metabolic test, which means we were able to start my dog on a mix of regular + kidney care food earlier to help prevent additional damage from occurring. Of course, since Discovery Bay's test is so basic / generic, they don't see those early warning enzymes, but this is compounded by the fact that they don't remember their clients at all and don't keep good records either. I had given a very concise summary page of my dog's records, which included a list of her medications/ food / medical conditions and I also discussed these with the vet, but they don't bother checking the records, keeping notes, or even remembering their clients at all. So of course they denied the kidney food request my dog has already been eating for 2 years despite discussing the food at her appointment with Discovery Bay Vet. That was the last straw for me and I've decided never to come back. I keep very detailed notes and records and do a great job summarizing / organizing the records for others, but these people have a goldfish memory and their administration is abysmal. If you decide to come here despite the warning, you better be amazing at record-keeping and go over your invoices carefully, because they try to milk you for all that you're worth by doubling up services and tackling on extra monthly charges. Plus hopefully you won't mind being a faceless nobody in their money-printing machine since they can't even remember clients they saw the prior day. If you are curious about the level of care you will receive, I will let their own words speak for themselves in their defensive and inaccurate comment. We are new to the area and needed to get our dogs in for shots. Discovery Bay Veterinary is close to our neighborhood so I figured why not check them out. When I called for an appointment, the receptionist was very friendly and more than willing to accommodate my weird work schedule. When we arrived, we were greeted and promptly taken into a room. The facility is new and very nice. Spotlessly clean which I loved. Both the vet tech and the vet were lovely. I could tell that they really love animals. The dr was very thorough and provided plenty of time to answer questions and discuss concerns. I'm so happy that we have been able find such good veterinary care so close to home. With 5 fur babies in the house, good veterinary care is crucial and I am confident we will get that with Discovery Bay Veterinary. read more

Two weeks ago we brought a stray cat here. They claimed that cat is healthy, and we need simply come back in two week with him. Which is today. Yesterday cats tip of the tail fell off. We came here cause we have an appointment. They refused so see us, since they were waiting for us only to get vaccinated and it's no vet to be seen until 5pm! We rushed in other clinic. Results: cats tail needs to be amputated because in this clinic no one noticed a broken tail two weeks ago when we found this poor thing on streets. Now its gangrene. 1200$ bill because of someone ignorant and 2/3 of tail removed. Infection was so hight that its clearly not 2 weeks old. read more

I have been bringing Mamas here for a couple of years. When she saw Dr. Melissa Jacobs she was in great hands. The last few visits here were not the quality of care you'd expect for a loyal customer. Mamas was having issues with sneezing, reverse sneezing and coughing, her eyes were rolling in the back of her head and she was having issues with walking on 10/31/21 and Discovery Bay Vet was closed so I brought her to the Emergency Vet recommended by them in Antioch. They did a check-up and bloodwork and stated she had an infection or inflammation and sent her home with medication. I brought her in for a follow up appointment on 11/4/21 and Dr. Jeanna Villacarte and she said she would have recommended the same medication based on her bloodwork and to see an Internal Medicine Specialist for her nose. On 12/1/21 Mamas was having the same episodes and was no longer on medication so I made another follow-up appointment on 12/3/21 to see Dr. Paul Sessa and asked for new bloodwork. I showed him the video of her eyes rolling back and her head twitching and he stated that it was probably just her older age and vision going out but would get bloodwork as I asked. He took her to the back as I sat in the room and I could hear the vet techs in the back listening to music and laughing. All of the sudden I heard my cat meowing like she was in extreme pain and out of instinct I opened the door and asked them if they needed help to see they had their "house cat" Delta walking around by Mamas while they were trying to draw blood. They said they didn't need help and I shut the door and sat down. I could then hear them put Delta away and then louder say, so I could hear, "Sorry we had to lock you away Delta. I know you were just trying to help the kitty." Are you kidding me? My cat is an only cat and indoor only. Of course she is not going to like another cat walking by her, especially while they are trying to draw blood. Dr. Sessa then came back into the room and said Mamas wasn't cooperating while getting her blood drawn and that since it was Friday we wouldn't get results until Monday and Dr. Gray would call me with results. Then the vet tech brought in Mamas in her carrier and continued to explain she didn't do good while getting her blood drawn and that they gave her a hematoma because they pushed the needle in too far. All because they had their house cat walking around freely while performing services which I am sure is against policies and vet regulations. They hurt my cat when I was trying to get her better and charged me $474 and didn't even apologize for hurting her. Come Monday (12/6/21) I had to email them because I didn't hear anything back regarding her bloodwork. Dr. Jeanna Villacarte called and went over her bloodwork and that she had high levels of eosinophils and sodium and that her recommendation was to see a cardiologist, neurologist and internal medicine specialist. On 12/12/21 Mamas had yet another episode and I wrote to them to see what recommendations they had or if they could test the bloodwork further or give her any medications until I could get in with a specialist. Jennifer, their front desk, stated Dr. Jeanna Villacarte wasn't in and that she would get back to me on Tuesday 12/14/21. On that Tuesday I didn't hear from her and decided to take Mamas to Lafayette Emergency Vet where there was a neurologist on staff. Mamas ended up having Fore-Brain Disease, enlarged kidney and heart murmur. Those episodes (videos I showed to Dr. Sessa) were seizures. I ended up having to put Mamas down. :'( I have yet to hear back from Discovery Bay Vet! My heart is broken and I want everyone to be aware it seems they care more about profits than patients. Mamas was my baby and a part of my family. I will NEVER bring any other pets I have and NEVER give them my business again and you should reconsider bringing your baby here too! read more

Our Snowy has been a patient of Dr Gray since we adopted her as a rescue 9 years ago. We followed Dr Gray when he moved to Discovery Bay from Antioch, at first because we liked our insurance plan and wanted to continue with it, but then we also appreciated the care from the staff. Woofy, my 12 lbs chiweeniejack had a great experience with the dental deep cleaning at discovery bay vet. He is alive again with sparkling clean teeth after 6 years of resisting to brush. Doc and staffs were wonderful and informative. Doc explained the procedure and care needed after. Follow up from friendly staff on next day to make sure Woofy was back to eating normal. I brought my kitty in to be spayed, a few days later she came down with a respiratory virus. Sneezing non stop, etc. I called the vet- they pawned it off as "allergies." All three of my young cats are fixed, have vaccinations, and are very pampered exclusively indoor cats. The next day my second cat (2yrs old) comes down with sneezing fits- but much worse and rapidly declines within 24hrs to having 105 fever and full respiratory distress. Discovery bay couldn't find the time to fit him in to be seen, and this was a Wednesday morning. I had to go elsewhere and spend a ton of money trying to save my cat. Now 2 days later my 3rd cat (3 years) has come down with it, and back to another vet I go. I called Discovery bay vet to let them know and they could have cared less. Teresa has taken all my calls, and while she is "nice" she isn't helpful or concerned in the least. Much like store employees when you ask if they have any more of an item in the back and they immediately say "whatever they have is already out" and shuffle off. Now I'm heading out to a different vet for the third time because they either didn't clean the kennels well that spayed animals recuperate in- or exposed them to another sick animal. Another bad experience I had at DB vet was putting my old cat down, they told me they were taking him back to find a better vein, and "accidentally" put him down while he was back there and brought him back to me already deceased, and I wanted to be with him. My girl went in for vaccines on Friday, I was expecting a follow up call to check on her after her vaccines that Monday since I'd left a voicemail saying she may be having a reaction she's vomiting. They never got back to me, I had to call in to update them again to let them know she ended up breaking out in hives everywhere after vomiting. The receptionist told me once I'd called in " I don't get in early enough to check voicemails, yeah she was throwing up." And no follow up call or is she better now? .... I recently moved from my other vet to Discovery Bay Veterinary Clinic. I love Dr. gray. He is knowledgeable, gentle with pets and doesn't gouge you. I took my dog into see Dr. Gray because I was sure he had some stones in his bladder. Dr. Gray just felt his bladder and said there is no inflammation. Any other Vet would have taken and charged me for x-rays Dr. Gray diagnosed his symptoms with a slipped disc. It fits. He knew right away what was wrong with him without charging me for all the unnecessary things. He prescribed some meds to help him. I strongly recommend him. read more

The office staff gave my dog expired medication (the office manager claims it was a typo) I asked them to exchange it for current medication and they refused. When I got upset and asked them to have Dr. Grey call me he refused to leave him a message. Little late, maybe a few years late. But about 3 years ago I brought my bearded dragon Berzodo here, my most beloved pet. Dr.Dietrich (hope I spelled that right). Was the one to help my poor boy when he had gangrene on his private area. I was sobbing taking my boy, he's my world, Dr.Dietrich assured me my boy would be ok. Everyone there was so kind and comforting as I was sobbing in the waiting room, yes I was a bit dramatic but this boy is my world. Berzodo was perfectly fine after his operation and he is now a whooping 13 years old now (2017) I have also brought my leopard geckos here when one had a huge chunk of skin hanging off herself. Wonderful doctor. My cat had an emergency on Friday just before 4pm so I called them to see if there was any way my sick cat could be seen that day. I explained I couldn't afford to go to an emergency vet. They had me come to the office right away, I live across the boulevard from them so I was there within 5 minutes. Dr. Dietrich was very thorough and did not rush through the exam. He explained what was happening and even did a follow up call the next day and again the next week. I've been routinely going to a vet in Fremont for over 20 years (before moving to DB) and have never received a follow up call from the vet. Once we talked to dr.Gray he completely calmed us down and told us everything we needed to know, what to prevent, and steps moving forward. Gave us such a piece of mind and so much information. He seemed to care more about our puppy and giving us all the right information instead of taking X-rays and not getting anything back with other vets we have been to. I cannot recommend this vet enough. I would give them10 stars if I could. Dr. Lau was able to see my 16yr old chihuahua sMe day who had been suffering with a blown ear drum and infection, as well as a swollen eye. They immediately made me feel welcomed and walked me thru the steps they wanted to take. Dr. Lau did the entire examination in the room with me which is different than most vets who take them to a back room. She explained everything she was doing and how she planned on treating. She made sure I understood all my options for treatment and did their best to keep the costs down. She even did her own lab analysis checking for the type of bacteria so she could provide the best treatment option. Turns out she has a strain resistant bacteria which requires a special compound to be made specifically to fight the infection. She called the next day a couple of times to check on my dog and then explained that the pharmacy wanted to charge an arm and a leg to create the Antibiotic, so she ask for permission to make it herself.
