I have had two children attend this preschool and I cannot recommend it enough! This school loves your kids like their own, teaches them beyond what any other preschool will teach and lets them play like the kids they are! The school truly is well rounded and exceeds my expectations day after day. In my opinion there is no better preschool in Long Beach, and I will continue to recommend it to everyone I know with a child aged 3-5. PS: My son's PreK program is currently overlapping with some math concepts that my daughter is learning in first grade!

Being new to the whole school enrollment thing, I searched for a preschool for my daughter pretty late and was having problems finding a place my girl could fit in. My daughter has a huge personality and I didn't want her to get lost in a preschool with 20+ kids in the class. So I resorted to yelp and searched "best preschool near me" and found this gem. I was welcomed by the director Miss Roxy who helped me through the whole process and there just happened to be one spot left. After visiting so many schools and not feeling the vibe or energy, I immediately knew this is where I wanted her to be. Classes are small, the teachers know all the kids names, not just the kids in their class)... more importantly not only do they learn plenty of academics and social play but life skills. My daughter learned meditation and gratitude which is everything I try and teach her at home that I wish I learned early on in lIfe. She has been here for two years and I have seen such a tremendous growth in all aspects. She had both Miss Hannah's (yes, there were two) and it was such an amazing transition She never cried and adapted quickly. Currently she is with the big kids in Miss Laura's class in the yellow room and she is phenomenal! She definitely takes pride in their learning and loves all the kids like they are her own. She packs as much as she can into the three hours they are there while still balancing play. I'm sad my girl has to move on to Kindergarten because I would keep her here as long as I could!

With that in mind, I wanna say I am deeply grateful for this school. They have great systems in place with low ratio and really teach the little ones a lot while they're there. I can solidly say that at two years old my daughter can count from one to 20 and sing the whole alphabet along with about 15 different nursery, rhymes and stack blocks and has very advanced fine motor and motor skills because of the school. I'm a licensed OT and always felt safe with and confident in staff. Mrs. Nali, Mrs Dhammika, and Mrs Nayana are well educated in this age group, patient, and loving. All of the staff are truly wonderful. We went from infant, to wobbler, to toddler and transitioned very well. I don't know the frequency but every time my child which class they gave me a comprehensive developmental checklist to tell me what my child was doing or wasn't doing that was on track for proper development or not and that is huge. When you're a busy parent and don't always notice some of the things that Are typical or atypical to have some professional eyes to help you understand where your child is developmentally is huge. They are CPR trained and do a great job with making sure they're fed and changed consistently. My baby never came home hungry or never was crying when I picked her up and never got diaper rash there. If you choose to be part of the little app, you will get photos of your child. Once every couple weeks in the classroom is playing with the other children. They also send little videos and they do little Halloween parades and classroom parties. The Christmas parade is precious too! The focus of MONTESSORI is self-sufficiency which as an occupational therapist I really love. She would come home and if she spilled something, she would run right away to try to clean it up. She very much wanted to learn how to do things on her own and she knew how to threw away her own trash, which was not something I taught her at home necessarily lol It truly is adorable and prepares your baby for a successful road ahead with school and life beyond. My only thing I would change is having carpet or soft floor in the infant room vs hard floors. Other than that, everything really is done perfectly, and they have a lovely little outdoor space that they take them to a few times a day where they can ride bikes and do the slide and all of that. Learning how to operate in a group and look at what the rest of the group is doing and follow along is a critical life skill, and my baby has transitioned to preschool seamlessly because of her experience at this other school. In fact, one of her current teachers used to work at Wee care as well and has positive things to say.

She has grown so much, all of our friends and family compliment on her communication and social skills. We really do have to thank the wonderful staff at LSH in their every day role in helping our daughter develop into who she is today. The educators use the Brightwheel app to update us with photos and videos of the children's activities, as well as naptime. During our transition out of diapers with potty training, the teachers updated us with potty breaks and worked with us on the routine we had at home to ensure she was comfortable and familiar. The new site is beautiful and we feel blessed to be among some of the first families at this location. The staff did an amazing job in creating all of the different spaces for the children. We also feel very safe that there are multiple gated entrances into the classroom/play yard. We want to keep her play-based as long as possible and will be keeping her another year until she heads into kindergarten. It's wonderful to see the friendships she has formed with many of the children that she started out with in the toddler class.

When we did the initial walk through at MGH, we informed Michelle of my son's frustration and…read morebehavior issues and asked her how they would address this at school, she confidently told me she would take him outside to diffuse him. We also had numerous formal and informal meetings with Christine and Karinna, who always said they wanted to work with us. We were told we had to get outside help from a doctor, and when we told them it would take a while to see results (per the psychologist), they reiterated they were willing to help. After being called to be picked up after an hour of class on his 4th full day of school, I spoke with Christine and she told me what happened. I also called the director, Heather, to discuss our options. Christine didn't mention anything about Simon not being allowed to attend school anymore without extra help provided by his family, nor did Heather. On Tuesday morning, I sent Heather an email with tips of how to diffuse my son, thinking the teachers could use it as a guideline in helping to steer him in the right direction. Twenty minutes prior to school starting, she called to tell me that it wasn't possible for my son to get any more one on one from the teachers and since our nanny couldn't be at the school until 10am, the staff felt they weren't safe with my son in class without the help. Why Heather didn't call me Monday or even earlier Tuesday morning to let me know he was not able to attend that day still baffles me. Heather said she was waiting to talk to me at the site, but that would have only resulted in her turning us away as I had my daughter with me that morning and wouldn't have been able to stay to help.  I got my so ready that morning, we packed his lunch together, and I gave him the pep talk about Karinna not being in class, but got him excited for music class that day. If I wouldn't have sent that email, Heather wouldn't have called at all and we would have arrived at the school only for her to have told us the news in front of my son. How do you think he would have felt about that? I'm surprised that the director of a place that regards itself as fostering confidence in young children would reject a child to their face. The website states, "studies prove that the relationship between a caretaker and a child is more secure when it's longer. It supports the social and emotional development of a child. Whereas, frequent change in approach or caretakers can cause suffering and early depression in children." Heather and her staff gave my son one full day the first week and three full days the second week, calling us to pick him up on what would have been his fifth day at MGH.  If the email I had sent Tuesday morning were suggestions from an actual psychologist, would they have called to tell me you couldn't give him one on one attention to implement the strategies from a doctor? The meeting on Friday with the teachers suggested otherwise, as we were told they were ready to work with whatever care we found once an assessment was made. Christine informed me that she would have to call to have my son picked up from school if the kids felt unsafe. According to her, this happened for the first time on Monday even though he was called to be picked up three prior days of school. No one informed me he wouldn't be able to return without my nanny or a parent in the classroom after this one incident of him kicking in the direction of a child. I was under the impression that we would have to come get him if it happened again, but not that he couldn't return. The first I heard of this was twenty minutes before the start of class on Tuesday. I was caught of guard and it was very unprofessional. I am so glad this did not end up happening in front of my four year old son, as the director originally intended. I understand my so was not easy and required a lot of one on one. He has never been in anything full time all day. He has never been in a Montessori setting. I believe he was not given a fair chance to succeed. He was not even given an entire week. The MHG program is more geared toward families with Montessori backgrounds, with kids that are ready to do their work without much assistance. This should have been conveyed to us before we signed on, as we were open about his past behavior and experience. I hope in the future you are up front with parents regarding any children that may have special needs or behavioral problems.
