Marina was the best decision for our little one. It was the first school that we looked at. We checked out a few other schools but this one felt right and my child instantly took to Ms. Candy who runs the school. Price: the price is competitive for private if not better than some schools for the type of flexibility & environment they provide. Schedule Options: I like the options offered. I appreciate their flexibility. I didn't see a lot of flexibility with the other places we looked at. This was important for our family. First Day: The first day of school can always be scary and nerve racking. My child is very nervous normally, but felt very welcomed here and ran right inside to participate in story time. Didn't even look back to say bye. I was surprised and happy to see that. It brought us immediate comfort. Class Structure/Communication: I like the type of structure they have. It's not rigid but still organized and routine. The teachers keep you in the loop and inform you of any issues or concerns during pick up or by the class dojo app. They will even give you updates and pictures of their playtime which I love! It's a decent class size. The kids learn a lot of fun things and interact with each other really well. You can tell most of the parents are very caring. There wasn't any drama or pretentious attitudes (that I was aware of) while we were there. We were even able to communicate with other parents on the app. So we made more connections outside of the school. Teachers: Ms. Brittney is great! Very patient and on top of everything. I really appreciate her communication and commitment to the kids. The other teachers we interacted with are also very kind and supportive. The teacher group is very diverse. They all have a calm vibe and I never worried about my child's well-being. They seem to pay attention and appreciate the kids differences which was nice to see. My child will forsure miss Ms. Samantha, Leann & Elizabeth. Activities/events: They offer extracurricular activities during school at reasonable prices which is nice if you want your child exposed but don't have time after school. They also have cute gatherings for the kids during the school day that parents can come participate in during holidays. Cons: My only real con is that my child was always full of sand by pick up lol. I got over it though. I had to remind myself that it's important for sensory play. My child talks non-stop about all the fun things they made while on the playground in the sand. Our son went to Marina Montessori for almost full 4 years - from the Baby Class all the way through Kindergarten. In the very beginning he had a hard time adjusting to the new environment, but all the teachers made that process so easy and smooth. They let him take his time and really helped him to get comfortable! All of the staff is very professional and overall just wonderful. They do a lot of art, activities and projects with kids, spend a lot of time outdoors and even have a little garden where they grow vegetables. Our son had a great basic education during his years here and had a very smooth transition to the 1st Grade in his new school. Marina Montessori is the best preschool for your little ones. My twins started preschool here after they turned 2. They attended school here for 2 years. The entire staff was amazing. It's been fun seeing our daughter get acclimated to Marina Montessori! My husband went to Marina Montessori when he grew up in Long Beach, and he has such positive and happy memories from this place. Our daughter has been here for a month, and she absolutely loves the teachers. Miss Cassandra and Miss Samantha are so friendly and warm and kind. So much so, that our daughter wanted to write them cards the second week she was at Marina Montessori! I think that is definitely a testament to their caring nature. She sometimes brings home worksheets from school, where she had traced some letters. I like that they are working on manipulatives, and giving them lots of time to practice safely with scissors, in preparation for kindergarten. As an FYI, the classroom for 4 year olds does not offer naps, which can help prepare for TK and kinder. I love that they also have gymnastics, dance, and soccer offered at the school for an additional fee. Candy and Brittney make sure that the parents are happy and they definitely put families first. They are so sweet and friendly! This place is definitely a play-based school, with a lot of outside time. if you are looking for an academically rigorous place, you may want to look elsewhere. That said, Marina Montessori is a fun and nurturing environment, where your kids will look forward to going to school and spend time with their friends. Not only did i take my daughter there when i came to visit my mom for the summer, but i'm also an alumni (former student of Candy, and classmate of Brittney). Given my experience is a bit dated, I'll stick to my daughter's experience :) She attended marina montessori from May through the end of July and found it welcoming (super nice teachers) and fun. She made a few great friends there as well! I love the art pictures that was drawn on the walls by one of the teacher (my daughter loves disney) and think their curriculum is great too (my daughter is now super familiar with all types of sea life). As a parent, i also love the security gate they have put up, as well as the cleaning people that come in several times a week. Back at home, my daughter got a cold from her school every week or two. In the entire 3 months we were at Marina Montessori, she only got sick once, which is a true testament to how clean they keep the place. My daughter has been going here for over a year. It's in a quiet neighborhood, on a quiet street which is nice. Some other schools we toured were on busy streets which we did not like. The school has a laid back vibe to me and I like that. The teachers are nice and my daughter likes it. They also offer dance and soccer for an additional price. My son attended Marina Montessori from 2.5-3.5 years old. He would have attended longer if we hadn't moved out of state. We LOVED the school, especially the teachers!! It can be so scary leaving your greatest treasure with others for long periods but I really felt like my son was in good hands here. We can't say enough great things about this school. Our son was here over summer and I'm so impressed with how much he's grown socially and academically since starting here. This not a daycare. This is a school. Their staff is highly trained and has very organized lesson plans that build upon each other. They also spend a lot of time developing children socially. My son had some separation anxiety when transitioning here and the teachers were so wonderful and patient . My daughter has been attending Marina Montessori of Long Beach for two and a half months now and am really happy about the experience. The school was recommended to me by two friends after the great experience they have had sending their 4-year-old daughter here for the past nine months. First, every day my daughter is excited to go to school and every day she is happy when I pick her up. This helps me to know that it is a good environment because she has been to two previous daycare/preschools and hasn't always been excited to go to school or in a good mood when I come to pick her up. Second, the teachers pay attention to my child as an individual. Last week a teacher asked to talk to us because they noticed my daughter was more withdrawn than normal. We had just moved homes and these teachers were attentive and knew that something was up just based upon knowing my daughter and her normal behavior. Speaking with the teachers helped us to make sure to talk about our transition more and to help our daughter understand. It means a lot to me that my daughter's teachers care about my daughter and attend to her emotional needs and track her emotions and well being on a daily basis. Third, when I pick up my daughter she is eager to show me the craft they worked on that day (e.g., constructing a jelly fish) and to show me the art she made that connected with that week's themes (e.g. sea creatures). Fourth, I really like that this is a small business owned by a mother and her daughter. Before we came to Marina Montessori, my daughter attended KinderCare which had a very corporate feel (for obvious reasons). Whenever I have questions (for example, about tuition fees and whatnot), I just go to the front office or email and speak directly with the owner. Having an owner of an operation who directly manages teachers is really important because parents have direct access to the decision makers at the school without having to jump through any hoops. I'd also like to add that the owners, Candy and Brittney, really care about the children and their parents. Both my kiddos went to Marina Montessori from about the age 2 years and up until they transitioned to TK at public school. We had an amazing experience with both children. Oh Marina... how we miss it. My son Bode spent the better part of age 3 to 4 there and it was well worth it. My son came back home always happy always eager to go back. His teachers really cared and really loved him. My baby moved on to public school but I will always appreciate Marina and the marks they've made on Bode and his education. I never went to preschool myself but now that I've experienced this montessori I have realized the importance of this early life education. Well, I called and asked if there were openings. Whoever answered blurted "Montessori!" in a none to friendly tone. There was no hello. No good morning. No thank you for calling, how may I help you... So, this was a bad first impression. When I asked if there were any openings, the lady replied, just as bluntly, "No. Sorry." She said nothing else. No mention of a waiting list, or when future openings may occur. Nothing. And again, it was that mean sort of tone the lady had. Now, in all fairness, I never went to the location to check out what they actually do. They may very well be a decent school. However, from the one phone interaction I had with them, I got very bad vibes. I want my son in a warm and friendly environment. I didn't get that impression from my phone call to Marina Montessori. My son has had the best experience with this school for the last year! Speaking from an extensive childcare provider as myself I can tell you from one mom to another that THIS school is AMAZING and the experience your child will get here at Marina Montessori surpasses them all! The teachers love and adore each child and I trust them to make the best decision for my son when I'm not around. The curriculum is remarkable and I'm still amazed with how much my Son retains and brings home with him. He's made an insane amount of friends and with that has learned to interact, show compassion, and team build with children of all ages! I love that the curriculum emphasizes critical thinking and learning the way the works best for oneself. For instance, when my son is thirsty- he knows where to find a cup, refill it with water and ENJOY!! They have taught my son to be independent and confident- a trait that I think we can all agree as being an important factor to society. Each teacher is easy to get a hold of for any questions or concerns. And the very few times (in fact I can't even remember that's how insignificant they were) I had an issue I discussed it IMMEDIATELY and it was handled IMMEDIATELY. It puts a mother's heart at ease that she can get a hold of her child, his teachers, and/or the owner at the drop of a pin- or the ring of the phone. My son comes home each day happy and eager to go back the next day and In fact has a hard time leaving. He's proud to show me his work, loves telling me about his friends, and has told me more than once (usually when I'm being strict with him) that he loves his teachers! The teachers have all been caring, compassionate and creative in their teaching. Maybe the parents are fooled, but we live nearby, and the constant yelling (by adults who don't get off their butts to talk to the children like they are people) and the screaming by the kids is frequent and excessive. They have said in the past to just call and let them know when it gets out of hand, and so I just called. Guess what: nobody answers and a recording comes on that says the mailbox is full. If I had a child going here and I could not reach anyone I would be very upset. We should not have to call to ask for the courtesy of keeping the noise down; of respect for others. For those of us working from home, the screaming in the background, even with the doors and windows closed, is an embarrassment. If the sound is too much for the neighbors, who have previously addressed the issue, why does it persist? We know that people pay a lot of money to have their kids attend this school, and I wonder what kind of manners the kids are learning with no apparent rules for conduct . Worse, the example by the adults will likely encourage kids to yell at other people without repercussion as they grow older. Great. read more

I went to Marina Montessori to get information because I was interested in enrolling my daughter. I was pretty much rushed out with enrollment forms and only half of my questions anwered. And I only got to see one classroom and the playgroud. I wrote an email to the owners to have those additional questions answered and never got their email or call back. They did not seem professional at all !!! I ended up enrolling my daughter to Montessori Children's house in Long Beach. At Children's house staff was super friendly, and gave me very detailed and informative answers to my questions regarding the school program. read more
