Our son just completed preschool at Kid Works. We are so appreciative of the teachers and director at the school. Dana is absolutely fabulous, so clearly experienced with all types of different kiddos, and really offered our son a loving space to be himself. Amy, the Director, is so communicative and generously spent lots of extra time with me whenever I had questions or was hoping to get support and input on his behavior at school. I can't say enough good things about Kid Works Children's Center(KWCC). My 3-year-old daughter was going to a different pre-school (which shall remain unnamed for now) in LB. The experience there was literally waking her up from nightmares every night. I didn't make the connection until I asked her if she liked her school and her response was: "Daddy, I just want to go to a school that makes me happy." My heart broke and I took her out the next morning. We toured and signed her up a few weeks later at KWCC and my daughter is not only happy and thriving, but she looks forward to going to school. Gone are any teary-eyed drop-offs and when I pick her up she wants to stay a while longer and play with me (rather than bolting for the door). The staff is very professional and attentive to children's emotional needs. The daily communications (e.g. nap time started and ended and class health updates) really put my mind at ease after the experience with the last school. I'm SO glad I found KWCC and recommend it to all Long Beach parents. read more

Can not say enough great things about this preschool! My child started nearly two years ago and has positively thrived. Within the first week her curiosity spiked and she became an information seeking machine. We love the teachers and director so much that we signed up for the After School Program for TK and Kindergarten kids. Bonus, it's Spanish Immersion! Limited to 12 kids, and they pick up from Freemont. We know several families driving across town to get in. Why aren't there more Spanish immersion after school activities for these kiddos who want to learn in a smaller, nurturing setting? There are great Spanish Immersion preschools but then after that, nada. read more

I can't say enough wonderful things about KidWorks children's center. I have sent both my children here and both of them, despite having very different personalities, flourished at the school. The staff is friendly and welcoming and truly care about your child. Play-based learning has been so wonderful for my children, they come home dirty and happy! Kidworks has helped to build my daughters' self-esteem, confidence and social skills and both have made wonderful friends here as well. I called because I live down the street and asked if they accept Childrens Home Society. With being laid off in the beginning of Covid, our family was blessed to be able to get help... The lady was rude and sounded snooty as she said no. I proceeded to ask how much tuition was and it is pricey. Even if I was well to do, I would not pay that much. No need to be rude to people calling to inquire. It was a big turn off. Luckily I found a few great schools close by and have found a great fit for my kiddo! read more

We toured several different preschools before visiting Kid Works, and we are thankful everyday that we got a spot here. The moment we entered the school, we could see why any child would love it. The classrooms are comforting, home-like environments, and the large outdoor space is a dream, with its thriving garden, play structures, and water play areas. There are many to list, but here are a few highlights: Director: Amy is a fantastic director. She is a trustworthy, professional leader and is a great communicator on issues big and small. She is also beloved by the children and when not handling administrative issues can be found reading with kids in the cozy corner. Teachers: The teachers are attentive, nurturing, and very much in tune to each child's individual needs. We were impressed that at our first parent-teacher meeting, our teacher described all the personality quirks that we thought only we as parents would notice. Philosophy: Social/emotional development is a large focus. Children are empowered with skills for conflict resolution and teamwork. Seeing them learn to address their emotions and handle difficult situations has been impressive. There is also great balance of teacher-led learning (harvesting carrots from the garden, making a self portrait) and child-led activities (the children decided to set up a carnival, with pretend concession stands, games, and performances). We highly recommend Kid Works to anyone looking for preschool in the Long Beach area. We will miss the school when we are done, but the community will remain a part of our lives. read more

Our son is in the two-year-old program at Kid Works, and we absolutely love it! The teachers have been wonderful with helping him process his emotions at drop off and adjust to being at school without us. After just a few days, he seemed totally at home at Kid Works and is so excited to go each morning! The teachers of the two-year-old program and the rest of the Kid Works staff are truly amazing. This preschool is phenomenal! I can't recommend it highly enough. Our kid started at Kid Works earlier this year. We'd heard great reviews from friends, and we were looking for a play-based, hands on, paint everywhere, opportunity for our child's mind and creativity to grow--and she was sold the moment she learned about the two bunny rabbits the kids can interact with outdoors, Yin and Yang. There is enough structure in terms of routine and regular teachers to provide stability, but the opportunity for free play and working things out with other kids is also a huge part of it all. We know our kid will learn to read and write in public school when she's ready. Right now we want her to be at a place that supports her learning "how" to navigate relationships with other kids and her own ideas. An added bonus is that they take a break from commercialism at school (a relief from the multiple Elsa dresses that were constantly on display at her old preschool). My kid's classroom has recently been studying outer space, and today she told me, "when I grow up, I'm going to be an astronaut!" I wouldn't be surprised if she does thanks to the seeds of confidence planted by Kid Works. read more

We truly cannot say enough great things about Kid Works. The philosophy, the director, the approach to learning, the classes & outdoor areas, and the staff - everything and everyone is exactly what and who I want my child around. They do such an amazing job meeting the children where they are...and for a mama with a kiddo that needs emotional help to feel comfortable in new settings (even a year later some days!) the teachers are warm, responsive and willing to do whatever it takes to make her feel good and safe. My child has absolutely thrived at Kid Works. I have toured many preschools in the area and I really feel lucky to be able to send my children here. Kid Works is a place where teachers really SEE your child and celebrate who they are. To say this is a gift wouldn't be enough. They help kids develop confidence through healthy emotional expression and have so much fun while working through conflict and growing their skills. My son entered Kid Works at 4 years old, having been home for a year because of Covid. He is naturally a shy boy but had lost his confidence in meeting new people and lost his ability to really play. Kid Works teachers gently helped him come out of his shell, guided him with respect and after a couple of months he was transformed. The relief I felt to see him feel safe, respected and confident, can not be described. My daughter is a current student and has been at Kid Works since she turned the age to enter. She is thriving, comes home dirty and is so happy. She blows my mind with her acknowledgment and awareness of her own feelings and confidence that they are normal and to be worked through. It's a foundation that is so valuable and a gift and most adults are still developing these skills! My daughter regularly says her teachers are "so special to me". I first found out about Kid Works three years ago when I first moved to Long Beach, I immediately fell in love and I knew that this was the perfect place for my daughter. Unfortunately due to logistics, we were not able to start there until almost a year and a half later. Last June, when we were finally able to start at Kid Works, all of our hopes and expectations were met and surpassed. These are a few of our favorite things; 1. The teachers are amazing! They are full of fun, facts, empathy, stories, ideas, creativity, laughter, and love. (And so much more!) 2. The community is wonderful! Yes, it can be called a 'daycare', but so much more. It really feels like a community of caring parents, teachers, and children. There are opportunities to volunteer and get as involved as you want to be. 3. The philosophy. The immersive learning is a beautiful thing. I have seen my daughter blossom like a flower there. 4. The space. Kid Works just feels good. From the moment you walk in the doors you can feel the warmth and see how the creative juices flow from art, play and learning. 5. The director. Of course, every ship needs a captain, and Kid Works has an amazing one! She navigates the ebb and flow of the children's needs beautifully! I had toured a number of the other top rated daycares in Long Beach as well, but this was immediately the right choice for our family. Our son was on a waitlist for another preschool in the area for about a yr. A friend of ours told us about Kidworks and we decided to check it out. Im so glad we did. Kidworks was very organized with enrollment and didn't have a waitlist. You tour the place, attend a play day with parents and students who are interested in the program (i love that they did that), get an interview, and you are told within abt a month if your child is in. Simple as that! My son has been attending the school for about 2 months. Before this, he has been in an in home daycare since 3 months. He transitioned beautifully! We really couldn't all for more. He loves it there. After my son's 2nd day his vocabulary and language increased so much. I was very pleased. Im an slp so I really value that. The program and teachers are beyond wonderful! It meets all my expectations of the preschool program I want for my son! The director sends a weekly letter which I love. Communication is awesome. The teachers know you by name. I only took a tour as my daughter is too young to attend Kid Works. I have toured 7 total preschool/daycare options in the area. Just when I was ready to give up hope of finding a school that meets my expectations, I toured Kid Works at the recommendation of my kid's pediatrician. This is definitely where I want my daughter to attend when she's old enough. The facilities and the teachers encourage creativity and exploration. The outdoor space was huge, with lots of little nooks and areas to encourage learning through play. The kids all looked happy and busy doing activities like painting, crafts, and helping the teachers. The snack menu had a good mix of new/creative foods and familiar kid foods, but all of it looked pretty healthy. And, I like that you bring your kid's own lunch. I also appreciate how approachable Abby and the admissions process is. I look forward to sending my child to Kid Works next year! read more

Our daughter (4) has now been at Kid Works full time for nearly a year and we are incredibly happy with the environment, staff, director, and programming. The director and staff are thoughtful about how they are interacting with the children and they approach each child in a unique way. Our daughter has thrived at Kid Works and rarely wants to leave when we pick her up. The teaching is play-based and inspires a love for learning. This past week my daughter has taught me facts I didn't know about rainbows through the songs she's learned and from listening to stories at school. Being in the field of psychology, I am particularly grateful for the way the staff utilize and stay up to date on relevant research. I am also thrilled that they have incorporated mindfulness into the classroom! We discovered Kid Works from a friend and have loved the experience. The staff feel like family and it's hard to get my son to leave in the evening. He is free to be dirty and encouraged to be hands on with all of the various and ever changing activities. There is a garden growing vegetables, water stations, pet bunnies, pet birds, and pet rats..etc. One day my parents came to pick up my son and he was busing his own dishes from snack time. He immediately came home and wanted to help with our dishes. Things like this are ever day events at Kid Works. We are so happy our friend recommended this wonderful preschool. read more

In reading the reviews, I could have written verbatim what Gaea R. wrote in her review under her favorite things. Kid Works was exactly the right choice for my daughter. We moved to Long Beach from Pasadena a little over two years ago. We researched every school in the area and visited only a couple after narrowing it down. I knew it was the best choice for her after about ten minutes of us being there for our tour. My then three year-old boldly walked into the "Bungalow" where the older kids were busy "working" away. She picked up a paint brush and went straight to the easel to paint us a Valentine. Jennifer, the teacher in the Bungalow, and her class welcomed her in, even though I thought she might be disruptive. I had her little painting framed recently as a reminder of the extraordinary time she has spent there over the past two years and the beautifully compassionate and determined little girl she has become. Our final Parent-Teacher Conference was today, hard to believe only sixteen preschool days left for her. We will miss it so much.
