Stopped by this cute little coffee shop at around 2pm on the way to Schwartz's deli and got a cortado in about 5-10 min from getting in line to receiving my drink. Excellent cortado, the espresso was not bitter or sweet - it was just right! The girl at the cashier spoke English which was helpful. I'd come back for a quick stop, to study, or to grab an iced tea or espresso. It quickly became busy after we sat down and it does get quite hot, so not somewhere I'd stay for too long. P.S. Likewise the pastries. So when all things are otherwise equal, you look at other aspects. Went here 3 times in a week (it's a convenient location) and noticed a pattern: the service in inefficient with some folks who probably shouldn't be front-of-house because they are simply bad at it. Either not hospitable or painfully unaware when a large line has formed and they need to keep it moving. Seems like the good location led them to be lazy about those aspects. The industrial chic space gets warm because of under-powered air conditioning. This place is functional but has no ambition of being more. read more

While we were on the boulevard Saint Laurent, coffee was in demand by my brain. Instead of trying a regular branch ones, I felt trying an independent coffeeshop, and Dispatch Coffeeshop turns out be around the corner. It is a pretty modern place. The service is just ok. Workers didn't seem passionate. At the cash, the minute there is no customer, the staff leaves to sit and be on her phone and when she sees a new customer walking in; she exasperates, which found very annoying. I also had to repeat my orders 3 times, which I wasn't very happy about it. But our barista made amazing lattes for us, and I grateful about it. read more

Updating my review of Dispatch to 5 stars because its even better than I remember! Ordered an oat milk latte and its one of the creamiest, silkiest latte's I've ever had. Love it! They are currently open during covid-19 and only accepting 1 client at a time, hand sanitizer as you come in and cards only. We decided to purchase a few bags of beans from their online store and unfortunately our package was lost by UPS. Dispatch's customer service was SO helpful, they investigated and solved our issue quickly. I am VERY impressed with their customer service! If you are searching for a cafe browsing or work with your laptop for a while, this is not a place. If you need a place mainly for a long chat (+1 hour) with friends, still this may not be the perfect place. There are many other good cafes where you can hang out with friends in Plateau. However, if you are searching for a coffee "experience", where you could taste different versions of filtering, pressing and extracting all different kinds of coffee with the good help of explanation, yay! you are in the right place. I only visited once, to be honest, my first coffee at Dispatch was not like a heaven. (I had Guatemala San Jose brewed by Aeropress) I had a sip of cortado from my friends, it was quite good for me, but still, the coffee was not wow-level impressive, as many reviewers said here. However, I mark four stars and definitely "I am a fan!" of this place. The reason is simple. Again, Dispatch is a very decent place to try diverse coffee with different styles in the best condition by a barista. For example, I was considering buying an Aeropress for my own and wondered the taste and texture. The shop helped me convince that I will stick to espresso for a while. They gave me an "experience"! and made me explore other coffees and other methods. This is why they are worth at least four stars. One more thing that I liked from Dispatch was, the coffee they provide was not overly acidic, as one of many trendy Montreal cafes'. It has diversity to choose. So I came back to Dispatch coffee and this time I got a cold brew (woke me up instantly after having zero to no sleep the entire week prior to my arrival). I also decided to buy the LA UNION beans because I was heading back to Toronto. Got a chance to grind up the beans and make coffee today and let me tell you, as soon as you open the bag, the scent is AMAZING. I don't know why people do cocaine when you can simply open a bag of freshly roasted coffee beans because I was literally taking a few deep inhales. Anyways, trying not to make this about drugs.. This place is suuuuper hipster - concrete floors, bare minimalist style - but you know what, it's good. I got a fresh brewed coffee for $2, and they were pretty knowledgeable about their roasts. I was a little surprised that the coffee was served in regular coffee mugs, like the kind you'd get at a Holiday Inn for breakfast, since I was expecting...I don't know, copper-lined ostrich skulls or something. Was not a fan of Dispatch. It has a very strong coffee and a good pastry but the cafe itself is grey and overbearing. There is little interior lighting and large windows but most of the light doesn't reach the study area so it's actually quite dim. There are large long tables meant for sharing but there aren't always plugs around. The furniture is all very hard wooden furniture. Great design aesthetic; not so comfortable. If you're looking for a cafe for a quick chat indoors then this place would be great but as a study cafe I was not a fan. The internet was really slow and their bathroom was broken so you had to use a really hidden bathroom in an unfinished basement behind a cupboard that only Dobby the house elf would fit into. Overall, I would rather sit in a starbucks than try to study here. read more

Following up on their superb location on St. Zotique, Dispatch is one of the most exciting names in specialty coffee in Montréal. Their new 4021 St. Laurent location is a home run in the design department: sleek, minimal, and elegant, this is the perfect place for meetings, getting some work done, and visiting w/ friends. Their staff is very knowledgable and they have plenty of beans/gadgets for sale, making Dispatch a very coffee-centred environment that prioritizes quality over quantity. You may wait a couple extra minutes as it's a very busy spot, but there's a great vibe to this location that Montréal is sorely missing. None of the beanies, plaid shirts, 21 y/o attitude, tungsten lighting, and shabby chic furniture. I was given a great sparkling water while waiting... +1 service. The design of the space is minimal and industrial, making for an open feel that doesn't close in on you. Good hip hop vibes with music. Geared towards a younger crowd. The cappuccino had great deep notes, even with a thick steamed milk. It wasn't runny, and it wasn't too thick. Location: On the main, in the heart of the action - at least during the Mural festival. Street parking is available but metered. Your best bet is to use transit and/or walk over. The place: Bare with the quintessential minimalist look. I can't say the vibe is warm and inviting because really, it's rather sterile - perhaps they want to discourage lingerers? In any case, this attracts hipsters like a moth to light so it won't be in my top five coffee places to frequent. There's only so much pretentiousness I can stand. The goods: Not my favourite coffee. I found it bitter and unimpressive. I had high hopes but nope, it just didn't work for me. I had a Cortado and from what I tasted of the home made cashew milk, it had a nice flavour to it but the coffee roast just overpowered it. The croissant was fresh and pretty good. Service: Slow as f**k. There was some hipster douche bag who obviously knew the girl behind the counter and he just kept going on and ON about useless, superficial shit because HEY - no one else is waiting in line! Rather then move him along, the clerk just kept talking to him. Had I known the coffee would be so underwhelming, I would have gone to my usual spot. I came here with some friends and had a great experience. 3 of us got Aeropress of the Gesha coffee while my other friend got a hot chocolate. The Gesha coffee was a very solid coffee. Well balanced and full body. My friend said it was the best hot chocolate she's ever had. The barista's were very friendly and helpful and happy to suggest coffees. The place is very new, minimal and what I would consider hipster. They have a great menu and we opted for an iced mocha coffee. I don't know why, but the minimalist look made me antsy, but that's besides the point. Staff was very friendly and they make decent espresso but I wouldn't say it's the best coffee I've had. Their one plus is that they actually entertain the idea of an iced coffee. Other places we went to did not do iced coffees at all, probably because to real coffee drinkers, iced coffee is a big no no. Not sure if this is where I would go back for coffee but it's at a convenient location so if you're in need of your caffeine fix it's worth at least a drop in. read more

Things have really changed at their st Laurent location! I used to come to this cafe all the time when I lived nearby because the staff *was* very warm and friendly but I went in recently to buy beans and a coffee and felt like I was intruding on the two baristas conversation, really unfriendly service for a place that automatically directs you to tipping during payment. When I was buying the beans the barista said they came with a free drink, espresso or filter, so I asked for an iced latte, after specifying which drink I would like, the barista told me it wasn't actually a free drink, but an extra shot in an espresso drink, the other barista then shouted at me from across the cafe rather bluntly "it's not a free drink - it's a tasting option so you can try the coffee" which is confusing because the beans I'm buying are not necessarily the ones they're brewing with? I opted for the cold brew because double shot of espresso is too much for me. The staff should specify that it's a free extra shot, or a filter, instead of assuming that I know "free drink" means espresso shot? Then when I ordered a white cold brew instead, she asked whether I wanted to water it down, with a splash of milk, which is not what a white cold brew is (just milk and cold brew concentrate). Overall it was a confusing and cold experience that made me feel really unwelcome, all for a very underwhelming cold brew that tasted much worse than they used to (partially because there was way too much milk in it - they used to serve them in more of a cappuccino size). It would have been awesome to be treated with a helpful energy, and not like I was a burden/intruder who should know everything already. As someone who has worked in customer service/restaurants I know the people who worked at that location before and the lovely owners wouldn't want people to feel stupid for not knowing "free drink" means "extra shot of espresso". the st zotique location, however, seems to be where all the positive caring energy has relocated, I had a wonderful experience there and everyone was really sweet and helpful. I decided to give this cafe a try because I have had their coffee quite a few times and Cafe Nocturne on Prince Arthur and St. Laurent uses their beans! I loved the whole atmosphere of their cafe and their coffee is too die for! They also offered me sparkling water as I waited for my coffee! I loved the music that they were playing (if you're a TLC, throwback music kind of person: this should be your go-to). The only downside that I had here was the lack of space to study. There were only two tables that could seat 4 people with laptops. There are a lot of seats to the side to sit, read, or catch up with someone, but may not be the best place to get your grind on. The washroom was alright, you do need to flush the toilet a couple of times to get it to properly flush. I love their handsoap! read more
