This place has a great beer selection but I couldn't believe the cashier was walking around the store with no mask in sight and was wiping his face/nose before handling customers' products. They didn't say anything to customers who came in maskless, either. Regardless of your personal views, there's a law in effect to protect people who patronize your business. READ THIS. Seriously, this is muy importante. Not like Palin's sister's son-in-law getting herpes from a street-roving hermaphrodite kind of important, but *fantastic liquor* important. Yeah. I have your attention now, don't I? Let's just start by saying that this place is RIDICULOUS. No, I didn't accidentally hit the Caps, that was 100% intentional. I WOULD DO THIS ENTIRE REVIEW IN CAPS IF IT DIDN'T MAKE ME LOOK LIKE A 14 YEAR OLD GIRL WHO JUST FOUND OUT SHE WAS PREGNANT. So, I'll try to keep my excitement under wraps. Though I promise nothing. Marvin is the guy who runs this thing. A cool-as-polar-bears-nuts kind of guy, I would guess in his late 20s and looking to make your night as perfect as damn well possible. Their specialty? CRAFT BEERS. And crazy types of liquors -ie vodka bottles shaped like a bong/skeleton head/fire extinguisher (called Fire Starter, appropriately). At the back of the store is a lovely sign that reads "This is not a library." I don't think I need to tell you what else they also carry. BUT BACK TO THE IMPORTANT STUFF. Whoo, sorry there. Relapsed a little. Marvin. And his store. and CRAFT BEERS. As FAR as the eye can see. Buy a case of a dozen? 10% off. We didn't come prepared enough at the time to take advantage of it, but Marvin felt bad. So instead, he brought us out some "sample" 12oz bottles of beer from the back (some delicious craft ones, of course) and handed them over to EACH of us (not 1, not 2, not 3, BUT 4). When we were checking out, they had an itty bitty amount of trouble with the computer. Our payment for waiting the extra minute and a half it took to run our transactions? A free pint glass for the each of us. I mean, SERIOUSLY NOW. What kind of place treats you like the beer snobs (excuse me, AFICIONADOS) you so rightfully deserve to be treated as? I would EASILY drive the half hour out of my way to give this guy my business. Not to mention he'd be the only one with beers other than Stone, Alehouse or similar to offer (delicious, but let's branch out, shall we?) within a 30 mile radius. That night we drank our deliciously cold craft beers and reminisced on the hour beforehand that we bought them. Then later, after pizza, we grew nostalgic again. So are you getting tired of re-telling the story of the drunk girl who totally touched your wee wee one time on the dance floor? Or how one night you blew a grand on strippers in Vegas? I suppose it might have something to do with this being a *total* hole in the wall liquor store, and the fact that it's in Poway... regardless, it deserves more attention! Sure, Distillers Outlet may look like a run of the mill strip mall liquor store on the outside, but don't let that fool you! Step inside, and bask in the glory of the best craft beer selection I've found in San Diego. The guy who runs the shop (Marvin) really knows his beer - he stocks some of the most obscure stuff I've ever seen, god only knows how he finds some of them. I've been able to try a wealth of beers that I had never even heard rumors of until I saw them here. Of course, he also stocks just about every single variety of local brew you could possibly want. If you are *anywhere* near Poway, you have to stop here. Hell, even if you're *nowhere* near Poway it's worth going just to stop here. You're guaranteed to find at least a handful of beers you've never dared dream existed. Be warned though, getting limited edition beers from tiny craft breweries in the middle of nowhere Belgium can bring a hefty price tag at times - but it is money well spent. One way to mitigate the cost? Buy a case of 12 (mix and match!) and they'll knock 10% off the bill. Distillers Outlet Liquor is a small, unassuming liquor store with lots of quality craft beer at reasonable prices (there's also other stuff but I only came here for beer). I saw a "create your own 6 pack of beer" in the refrigerated section but I think that's only for the beers in that certain section. Now, the lady at the counter was friendly and honest. She had kept my bf's wallet nice and safe overnight because it was turned over to them by a nice lady who found it. You guys are awesome! How did North County's most varied craft beer selection appear out-of-nowhere in a lonely strip mall in the heart of Poway? This and other questions like 'why is there vanilla fudge?' and 'who killed Kennedy?' may go unanswered indefinitely. What I do know is that D.O. is doing it right. Up to the minute social media updates on FB/Instagram/Twitter on all the latest beers coming in. For the 1st time ever I was able to get my hands on the Holy Grail-impossible-to-find bottle of Alpine Ale here because of their updates. The guys that run this place LOVE craft beer.They have so much beer, they have to stock a lot of the 'good stuff' in the back fridge out of eyesight. Every time I walk in, David and Marvin the clerks are incredibly knowledgable, friendly and helpful. The greatest part is they're always down to chat about beer! If I'm in the mood for 'something like Sculpin, but 'chocolatey' he knows just what I need. I've also noticed the candy/chip section shrinking over time..... probably to make room for, you guessed it... MORE BEER! If you have a beer you tried once, really loved, and can't find it at yer local BEVMO, chances are Distillers has it. Call ahead or pop in and say hi. Prices are competitive. Wow! How is this my first time here? I came to pick up some Peanut Butter Cup porter and wished I had all the time in the world to browse. The Distillers Outlet has one of the best selection of craft beers around. The only place I would compare it to is Valley Farms (which I miss living so close to). Every local beer you can imagine, as well as beers from all over. Walls lined with cold 22s, 6 packs and spirits, shelves and shelves of room temp beers, and a great selection of wines too. Yes. Please. Walking up to it, I wasn't sure I was at the right place because the outside looks like your run of the mill, divey liquor or convenience store. Once I was inside, I'm pretty sure my jaw hit the floor and I immediately felt the urge to run around the store squealing like a little girl getting that pony she always wanted for her birthday. Needless to say, I was very impressed. I would have spent a whole paycheck in here if I could have. Their craft beer selection and prices are unparalleled in this area, not to mention the knowledge the staff have while still retaining personalities is top notch. Talking with David and Marvin about beer and seeing their visible excitement and eagerness at sharing their passion of great craft brews was the highlight of my day! I found so many great things and was told that if there was something I wanted and they didn't have, that they'd try to find it for me AND they ship! I live in Phoenix right now, and while I don't mind driving 6 hours for a good cause (beer), it's much more convenient for me to just have it delivered to my house. But damn if I won't visit this place every time I'm in San Diego from now on! Seriously, if you're on a mission to find good beer, do yourself a favor and stop here. Years ago, I stopped by this place on the chance they had MD 20/20. No, I don't actually drink that crap, but a friend was having a house-warming, and I needed some as a gag gift. They did have what I was looking for (it was some unnatural bright blue color that looked more like antifreeze than hooch), and perhaps because of that, I never considered them as a great local source for craft brews. My mistake! A few days ago I was looking for a place that sold YuleSmith Summer ale, and AleSmith's web site directed me here. It's on my way home from work, so I stopped in and was very happy to see they had my beer, along with a whole lot of other great choices. I could easily drop a C-note in this place and not complain. AleSmith, Port Brewing, Lost Abbey, Green Flash, most of the respected Belgians, and so much more that brought a giddy smile to my face. The guy behind the counter was very friendly and helpful and the prices seemed cheaper than BevMo. This is my new go-to place for fine beer. Yeah, they have the usual stuff like Bud and Coors, but who doesn't? BTW, the Mad Dog 20/20 I bought for my friend as a gag gift? A few of us actually cracked it open towards the end of the night. So I'm friends with the guy who runs this place on Instagram and wanted to stop to pick up bottles to send home whilst on vacation. As it would turn out, I could have just vacationed here and tried eleventy bazillion beers I wanted to. They have it all. If you live in SD then you need to do your beer shopping here. This little hole in the wall bottle shop (their sign just says "LIQUOR") has the biggest selection of craft beer at reasonable prices. They get beers from breweries I haven't even heard of. If you're looking for a rare bottle for a special occasion, you'll definitely find it here. Of course, you'll also find beers from all the local microbreweries. David is the guy you want to know. He is very knowledgeable and passionate about beer. Just tell him what style of beer you're looking for and he'll make really good recommendations. This place is THE bottle shop in North County. They have such a terrific selection of craft beers that it's mind boggling. And don't think that you see everything out on the shelves. If you are looking for something special and you don't see it, ASK. They may have it in the back or they may have a way to get it for you. I have went in looking for a rare beer that you don't see every day and these guys have been able to get it for me. That's how great the store and its employees are. They are friendly, knowledgeable and they love to discuss the many varieties of beer out there. I will often walk in and have them point me to what's new and they will turn me on to something I haven't heard about or have only read about on the web. Drake's White Label Hopocalypse, Knee Deep's Simtra, Avery Maharaja, these are all insanely good beers that David, Derek and the rest of the crew have enlightened me with. Being new to the area, I first tried checking out the grocery stores and other local bottle shops in the La Jolla area, only to be a bit disappointed in their offerings. Someone on Instagram actually recommended Distiller's Outlet and I've had nothing but great experience every time I shop there. The first time I went, the clerk hooked me up with a Pliny The Elder since I told him I was new to SoCal and told him I was seeking it out. They have a great selection of local and non-local and everything I bought has been fresh. David is always willing to make recommendations and can talk beer all day. Fantastic selection of microbrews even for the true connoisseur. Stopped by and picked a few six packs of Bells Two Hearted Ale - the Pliny dethroner. Pricing is about on par with what you would expect for some of the beers that are hard to come by and more in demand They even have singles for some of the more pricey stuff. We are definitely spoiled with amazing beer options in San Diego. I spend a lot of time up in LA and travel quite a bit in general and the micro beer scene continues to expand. read more

The customer service here is always hit or miss.. either they greet you and ask if you need help finding anything or they don't acknowledge you at all. The one star rating is because the cashier DOES NOT WEAR A MASK. We are over one year into this pandemic and it's unbelievable that the cashier manning the store doesn't wear a mask when interacting and serving customers. I've been here multiple times and have never seen him wear a mask or even attempt to put one on when I've entered the store. Once, there was another customer in the store that he was chatting with who also had his mask down. Neither of them put their masks on when I went in, so I left. This is the only restaurant/shop/store I've visited where the workers haven't been masked during the entirety of this pandemic. If they want customers to support their business, the least they can do is show customers that they care about safety. Don't come here and find another liquor store instead where the staff actually cares about your well-being. read more
