The soup dumplings are not really soup dumplings. Kitchen doesn't know how to make them yet they are on the menu. Properly made with soup gelatin, they should melt on steaming providing a pocket of hot soup. None of that here. The product here is edible just not what is expected. Also no slivered ginger was served with soup sauce for dipping. Not sure I'll come back to try the other dumplings based on this experience, so two stars. read more

My husband and I were really impressed by the variety and flavor of these dumplings! We placed a to-go order and the dumplings made it home warm and juicy. The dumplings were fried on the bottom which gave the sides and tops steamed, so they were a sort of steamed/fried combo with a great texture. Beef curry and beef bulgogi were fabulous! Rich flavors infused in a ground beef meatball-like filling. The pork and shrimp were fine, but the shrimp flavor was lost a bit. In contrast, the pork and bell peppers (jalapeño) were bright, spicy, and a burst of fresh flavor in every bite. Definitely close your meal with a bang! Ordered dumplings on UberEATS. The chicken and basil dumplings were delicious, but the beef bulgogi left much to be desired. They didn't really taste like anything and were suuuuuuuuper greasy. They also didn't provide napkins, utensils or any kind of dipping sauce. For the price of $15 for 12 dumplings and $12 for 10, I feel like that's not too much to ask. The size of the dumplings were good though. If I were to order again, I'd skip the beef and stick with chicken. read more

We were really excited to see this place opened near us so went tonight, a Saturday night. The website, Yelp, and their front door says they're open til 1030 on Saturday nights (another plus for us because we usually eat late). We walked in at 9:35pm and started looking at the menu and knew immediately what we wanted to order. Then the person working told us they have stopped taking orders already. Weird and disappointing. Why not turn your bright, new OPEN sign off at least? And it takes about 5 minutes to make dumplings so to stop taking orders almost and hour before closing is pretty lame. I got a few different ones but they threw it all in one container so it was a bit of a mystery with every bite. Tbh, it would be nice if they could label or separate the different dumplings. Having lived in Asia for 14+ years I was looking for some northern Chinese style dumplings and stumbled upon District dumplings. The place is located in the mosaic district and did not disappoint. They have a wide variety of dumplings--my favorited was the bulgogi beef and Peking duck--mostly for $1 each and $2 each for premium. The overall quality was good, however, I did only try the pan-fried versions which were a little on the oily side. My only knock on the place is the paper soy sauce/vinegar holders which were a bit flimsy. Overall, its a good spot to stop for lunch while you are walking around or shopping at the mosaic district. read more

My husband and I stopped by last night at 10:10pm for some late-night dumplings to-go. When I walked in the lady behind the counter told me that they were closed. I mentioned that the hours on Yelp and the storefront say that they are open until 10:30pm. She told me that they close at 10pm and that the half hour is for them to clean. Every time I pass by this place is always dead and could never figure out why??? So my wife and I decided to try. When I picked up my order, i noticed there was NO DUMPLING SAUCE. I asked the lady and she said that you have to grab the condiments and make it yourself. WHAT !!!!! Come on, who does that !!! She didn't offer to help and I don't even know the proper measurements or have the time to do that. I am glad I checked, because they don't inform anyone that u have to make your own sauce. Underwhelmed. Found it a bit limiting that 10 dumplings was the minimum order. The cashier pulled them out of the freezer to cook. Maybe the dumplings were made fresh that morning? Regardless, it sets you up to think they're just serving Trader Joe's potstickers. We chose many flavors and they're not labeled in the to-go package so I don't know which flavors I liked. Half of the dumpling choices are great, half are not good at all. The service is at least polite, but if you're trying to get in before they close, you should know they don't adhere to their own closing time. I often have them shut machines down about 30 to 45 minutes before closing time, leaving you with few options and their choice of cooking style. They are not even decent enough to adjust the price for uncooked food. They legitimately told is they couldn't cook our food because they were close at 8:45 (for a 9:30 closing). We ordered frozen dumplings to prepare ourselves, and believe it or not, the price was the same. If that's not bad enough, the last 5 times we've gone they've been out of chilli oil and other condiments, leaving us to pack and eat at home anyway. And when they do prepare the food, it takes forever. I've found some awesome mail order dumplings that are way better, delivered, at a tenth of the price, with all the do-it-yourself anyway. read more

There was not much soup in the soup dumplings and the dumplings were sticky and chewy. I don't think I'll be back for the soup dumplings, but I may try some pan fried in the future. Disappointing overall. The best were the Peking Duck and the Kale. The duck was rich (quite a lot of grease escaped at the first bite) with a good flavor. The Kale has the best texture but one member of our party thought it was too salty. The Beef Curry did not have any flavor- not a whisper of curry-and was too dense. (We ordered Bulkogi but got the other one according to the receipt). Worst of all were the soup dumplings. The dough was too tough with a slimy texture. There was a pitifully small amount of soup in the dumplings and they stuck to the paper in the steamer and leaked what was there during serving. The restaurant had neither black vinegar nor chili oil. Service was slow. We asked for a cup of ice for our sodas and it took 20 minutes and I had to ask a second time and there were less than 7 other customers in the place. They have a 10 dumplings for $10 meal and you get to mix and match what type of dumplings you want in them. I ordered 6 different types of meat dumplings(options 1 through 5 on the menu and the Peking duck) pan fried but they all came in the same container without any way to differentiate one from the other. Couldn't even give you which ones were good and which ones weren't because I wasn't sure what I was eating most of the time. All I know is I liked about half of them maybe. They're much better with soy sauce. I did get their Peking Duck dumpling which is $2 per dumpling and it came in a separate container, it was honestly the best one I tried there out of the 6 different meat options I tried. The least authentic and over priced dumplings I've had in the area. If you want xiao long bao go to Reren instead of even pick up the frozen soup dumplings at Trader Joe's because they are easily better than District Dumplings! They had no broth in them so I can't comment on the flavor, they also were designed to stay open on the top with a hole in the center which only served as a place for the meat fat to spill out. The dumplings served steamed were fairly good- I got the veggie and liked them however for $10 for one order of dumplings, I hope they'd be better than average. Expected to wait for my order to be made, the wait was not a problem for me. When I received my order (take-away) I left and walked to me vehicle then opened it up and only received half of it. I walked back in and told them they only gave me half, I was just stared at and then the problem was discussed internally and I was told ya there's three more minutes for the other half. Lesson learned: after your number is called and they give you your order make sure to wait around because they aren't done yet there is a round two too the delivery system. read more
