Not all chains are created equal. Reviews confirmed that and I trusted them enough to travel to the Woodley Park location for the best experience. It did not disappoint. Easy street parking got me inside just before the 2:30pm brunch cutoff. The vibe inside was immediately inviting. Cute trees growing in the center, real or not I was not brave enough to touch them, and well appointed tables throughout. We sat at the bar, ordered a Mai Tai and it arrived quickly. The service set the tone from the moment we sat down. We started with egg drop and hot and sour soup. Egg drop is my go to and I make it a point to try it wherever it appears on the menu. This one is one of the better ones in the area. Served hot and full of flavor. No enhancements needed. Then on to shrimp dumplings, roasted pork bun, and pork dumplings. The pork dumplings were my favorite and the roasted pork bun was my guest's. We could have stopped right there and been happy. One word of advice, the chili oil served on the table is super hot. We did not expect it so be careful when using. It is so good but it will catch you off guard! The shared entrees were the Han Style Peking Duck and Yang Chow Fried Rice. We have had Peking Duck previously at Philippe Chow and this one outperformed it. Served without the tableside theatrics but delivering every bit of the flavor. Goes to show sometimes good meals do not need the pomp and circumstance. Even though I love the thrills. The Yang Chow Fried Rice was not your typical version. The pork was marinated sweeter than anything I have had before and it elevated the whole dish in the best way. If you're going for a more traditional take on fried rice this would not be your go to. We ended with sesame balls served warm. Like a donut but with a not overwhelming sweetness. Filled with something I could not quite identify but it did not matter. A great ending to the meal. The bartender was attentive and reading the room the entire time. The next Mai Tai arrived right as I took the last sip of the first. I could not finish it completely but it was that good. All hands on deck made the food ordering and arrival quick and efficient. One honest note worth sharing. Han's Palace adds 20% gratuity to the menu but the bill comes out prompting you to select a tip again. Easy to miss. I went back in after visiting a spot next door to flag it and the waiter assured me nothing additional was charged even though I selected more. Noble of them. Just something to be mindful of when you go. Han's Palace Woodley Park is a gathering worth coming back to and the perfect starting point for a full day of fun in the surrounding area. I think Han Palace serves its purpose. By that, I mean to say it definitely brings a different version of "Chinese food" to a non-Chinese neighborhood. The food is 100% inauthentically Chinese but it's also not Americanized Chinese food. The taste wasn't bad and the visuals resembled Chinese food! There were lots of curious culinary missteps; so let's dive in! Misstep #1: the salty fish fried rice was WAY too salty and that made the overall taste subpar. But the saving grace of this dish was that every other component works! The eggs, chicken, and scallions were spot on! If this dish just removed the salty fish, then the dish would have been perfect. So why not just drop the salty fish in its entirety? Misstep #2: the steamed chicken feet was too sweet. This dish CAN be sweet but you have to counterbalance the sweetness with other flavors. The dish that I received was, unfortunately, a bit too sweet. Highlight: everything else about the dish was great (nice texture, spot on with the marination, not oily or greasy) Misstep #3: pork ribs were way too oily. When you steam a pork rib, fatty oil will naturally ooze out of the ribs. The restaurant made the mistake of over-marinating the ribs with too much oil. The taste was good minus the oily part. Misstep #4: I didn't even taste the bean curd in the "Bean Curd with Beef Ball." IDK if the bean curd was suppose to come with the dish or go inside of beef balls. Highlight, the beef ball tasted great though. Bright spots; chow fun and gold/purple yolk buns were amazing. Also, four dim sum dishes + a chow fun + a fried rice for $61 (post tax) is nicely priced. The portions were also fair for the price and location. The service was superb. The staff members were attentive and warm. So to summarize: taste was inconsistent, service was great, and one can expect to eat food that looks like Chinese food but is actually disguised as some other food. Hanging plants, warm ambient lighting, and Chinese-style calligraphic art adorn the walls. The fun tiled bar showcases a plethora of alcoholic beverages and features large flat-screen TVs broadcasting sports and news. While they don't take reservations, you can call ahead to inquire about wait times. On a Saturday night at 6pm, our party of six only waited about five minutes for a table. Our server was brusque, asking for our orders within two minutes of seating us (we needed more time). The dim sum menu, though not as extensive or authentic as other places and a bit pricier, features a mix of Americanized entrees, vegetarian-friendly fare, and traditional noodles, rice dishes, and vegetables. Dishes started arriving about 10 minutes after we ordered, which was fairly quick. I have been here twice now and both times have been great, the food is SO good! My hubby, my brother and a friend of mine went here yesterday, Saturday, 1/20/2024 at around 1pm and we were able to walk in and immediately be sat. The previous time I came here, we had to wait a bit, keep in mind they do not take reservations and there is not much standing room inside, so you may find yourself waiting outside while waiting for a seat. We decided to order a bunch of food and share everything, we got the soup dumplings, pan fried chicken and vegetable dumplings, General Tso's chicken, Mongolian Beef, Beef Chow Fun, Chinese Broccoli, and crispy pork. The soup dumplings were delicious, they were packed with porky meat and juicy. The pan fried chicken and vegetables dumplings were forgettable, I wouldn't order these again. The General Tso's chicken was great, a nice crispy exterior and very fresh tasting, this is some, if not the best General Tso's chicken I have ever had. The Chinese Broccoli is also an item I wouldn't order again, it was fine, but truthfully I expected something different and more on the lines of actual broccoli which this is not, so that was our ignorance. Han Palace is hands down one of my favorite restaurants in DC, and there are two main reasons why: the portions and the drinks. First, the food portions here are astronomical. I ordered the Singapore noodles, which were packed with flavor and loaded with beef, chicken, and shrimp. The portion was so big that it honestly could be split between two people. I barely put a dent in it while I was there and ended up taking most of it home and eating off it for a while afterward. But the real showstopper is the bottomless drinks. For $18, you get bottomless Mai Tais, lemon drops, and mimosas, and the best part is they do it all day, not just during brunch hours. You can pull up at 7 p.m., get dinner, and still do bottomless drinks, which is something you don't see very often. Between the massive portions, the flavor, and the all-day bottomless option, Han Palace is an easy five out of five for me. The Dim Sum at Han Palace is SO AMAZING!!! It's definitely holds the top spot for Dim Sum in DC for me -- and judging by the looooooooong wait to get a table , a lot of other people in DC agree!! Unfortunately, Han Palace doesn't accept reservations. So, if you're going (regardless of how early) be prepared to have anything between a 10 - 45 minute wait. Luckily their team takes your phone number and calls you once a table's available... So, my friend and I went across the road and grabbed a drink while waiting. Their Dim Sum was really authentic and bursting with flavour. We had the Pork Ribs with Garlic, Shrimp and Chive Dumplings, Crab Meat Dumplings and one of my ABSOLUTE favourites the Purple Gold Yolk Bun (Lai Wong Bao). This Han Palace is in the Woodley Park neighborhood of Washington, DC. The traditional Chinese interior decor is fabulous. Very beautiful and red with wood furniture and wall art. I did a quick takeout of rice and Roasted Crispy Pork. The pork was delicious but I was expecting more for $15.95. At least fill the entire small plate and include the sauce separately rather than take up space where the meat is supposed to go. Overpriced but I suppose these are the prices in a trendy area of DC. read more

I've never had all you can eat dim sum before? What an experience! Overall the food was very good. The noodles were chewy and the flavors of the meat in the buns and dumplings were very good. The plates are a bit small and they do take a while to bring things out which kind of makes you feel and not worth it to get the AYCE, so my recommendation is order a lot up front! The staff was nice was but too worried about coming back to us. There is street parking here, but the area is pretty busy on the weekends! read more

I came here with a friend this past weekend for brunch. One tidbit before i start, although they have an unlimited mimosa brunch option, they don't actually have any food brunch specials. It's just their normal menu, which was a little disappointing but not a major issue. The place isn't too big and is nice inside with tree decorations. I was greeted and seated immediately as I waited for my friend. To start, we got the lychee Bellinis. The Bellini was champagne with lychee liqueur and was supposed to have lychee purée but ours only had a single lychee plopped in. However, they were good and we got two rounds. For food, we decided to try a variety of items to share. Unlike typical brunch dim sum, they do not go around with carts and you must individually order everything. We got the shrimp and chives dumpling, pork shumai dumplings, crab dumplings, the pork buns, pan fried beef dumplings, and an order of beef chow fun. All were good. I will say on the shrimp and crab dumplings the dumpling shell was a little slimy which may be an issue for those with texture preferences. My favorites were the pork shumai dumplings and the pork buns. I also really liked the chow fun. For dessert, we shared the coconut tapioca. It's like a warm sweet soup and is not a pudding. We really enjoyed it! It surprised us because it looks odd but it tastes so yummy and warm. It also had I believe taro chunks in it. It was a very pleasant way to end the meal. Overall, we had a good experience and would return. The menu isn't very big but their are good options. They also had many martini options (except they don't espresso martinis fyi). If you're craving dumplings in the area, give them a try! read more
