In short, it was excellent. The space is modern, clean, and inviting. I had an appointment with Sid Molina. He was on time, friendly, and highly experienced. She makes her rare appearances and definitely helps with the charm of the place. Walking in I was greeted immediately and introduced to the current client as well which I thought was nice! DOB is a small shop, with a soulful character, located near the thriving Los Feliz area. As mentioned in other reviews, Shawn is personable, a genuine good caring person and a great conversationalist. Shawn is a talented barber who takes tremendous pride in his craft and makes sure his customers are satisfied on every visit. Appointments are advised, specially on the weekends. Place had great reviews so I made an 11 o'clock appointment for this morning. Got there at 11, Shawn was finishing up another guy. Took until 11:30 for him to finish him but since we were making good convo I didn't mind and wasn't in a hurry. Again, Shawn was super friendly and created a nice atmosphere, but it just seemed like he was in a rush. First off he finished my cut in under 40 minutes, which usually is ok but since you book for 1 hr slots I thought I was going to get the full hour. Also after he finished the cut he didn't style or shape it at all, he just asked me if it was okay and left it at that. No gel or water or anything to make it look good on my way out. And it was a little sloppy. Especially when he really took the time to make the previous guys hair look good going out. As soon as left he ran to his car and was off to lunch or wherever, which is fine, I just wish he was a little more transparent with me, and took the extra time to send me off looking nice. Also I have thick straight hair, and it seems like he didn't really know what to do with it. So I disagree with other reviews that say he can handle all types of hair. read more

I took a big plunge and had half of my head shaved. I went to Shawn to do it and I'm so glad. He's a great barber (my hair looks awesome!) and he and his wife are two of the sweetest people I've ever met. I get my trim here every few weeks and look forward to the time chatting with them. I saw that a new barbershop had opened 2min walk from my apartment so figured I'd give it a shot. I was dreading breaking up with my existing barber, so there was pressure for this cut to be good enough to warrant such a cold act. "He's made you look less bald," was the first comment from my wife, so it's official: Shawn is more effective than Rogaine. Seriously, though, his attention to detail was high and efficiency/speed was excellent. He asked what I wanted and delivered exactly. A fantastic cut. Shawn started cutting my hair a little after I moved out to LA and I have been going to him for almost 3-4 years now. The haircuts might take a little longer than others, but that's totally fine with me because he really gets to know you and wants to have an honest conversation. If it's your first time coming here, expect to spend some time just talking and getting to know each other. He'll try and figure out what type of haircut will work best for you, or if you want to try something new, he'll talk it over with you and let you know if it will work or not. Sometimes his wife is there as well, and she's just as fun to talk to. Both great company and amazing people. It's the second time I have cut my hair at this location. He just recently moved to this new location from DTLA, so it's still a work in progress, but I absolutely love it. It really has a good vibe to it and matches his personality. I've been going to Shawn since before he opened up his own shop, so around 4+ years now, and I've kept going to him even though his shop is way further away from me than the location he was at before he went out on his own. He's super friendly, funny (not not as funny as he thinks he is ;) ) and does a great job. His wife's great too, and you are in for a treat if you go in and she's there, as watching them together is pretty damn funny. All of these positive 5 star reviews are very much deserved. I just read the one negative review from Brian B. and this is my response, from a fellow customer: Why would you give one star for all the "negatives" you describe? Oh, he didn't offer product? Ask for it you dolt. If you weren't happy with the way you looked you should have said something. That's why Barbers and hair stylists ask if you like it before you even pay. Oh, he didn't take a full hour on you? I would consider that a positive. Even if an hour in his chair goes by fast. You had to wait a bit, but had great conversation and made up the time by the cut not taking as long - how the hell is that so bad? And how exactly does a barber be "more transparent" with you? Don't use buzzwords unless you know how to use them. I get not giving a perfect 5, but a one star? What is wrong with you man?
