Probably the best Peruvian food I've had so far! Although we ordered delivery (since we were on vacation with a baby and didn't have the luxury if dining out), the food was amazing. I would think it's even better when you dine at the actual restaurant! We ordered the family special 1 so that we could try a variety of dishes. Finally a food place close to work. Don't be afraid of the line when you first walk in, it goes by pretty quick. It reminds me of a chipotle food style. Where it moves through a line. Got the 1/4 dark meat with white rice and chickpeas. Not a fan of the chickpeas, doesn't have as much flavor as I would like. The rice was good, but it's just white rice. The chicken was seasoned beautifully. I am very impressed. Overall, good place, nice staff and plenty of space to sit and eat because most people take the food back to their office. read more

Whoa! One word! Delicious! I finally ordered online and picked up at the Rhode Island Ave NE shop of District Rico near my home here in Eckington. I ordered the Quarter Chicken Meal White Meat meal that comes with two sides, sauces; Mild, Medium (Rocoto Aioli), Sauce on the Side, Fried Rice, Medium, Veggies (Brussel Sprouts and Carrots). Once I picked up my food I ordered a medium black beans also. The seasonings were on point! The chicken, delicious, the veggies, so tasty and the fried rice which I put the black beans on top, so so good! As the picture shows, price $13.29 (before the added black beans. Now, I love Popeyes Chicken and a new one is next door to District Rico, but had ordered a 3 piece , thigh, breast and wing and one biscuit. Over $12:00! And the pieces were small. I used to buy Popeyes Chicken with coupons back in the day and when my weight was heavier (too many calories LOL! ) I cook at home mainly. We were pleasantly surprised with district rico's delivery one lazy Sunday evening. The portion sizes are standard American, delivery was quick, and prices were pretty darn competitive for south american cuisine (which I've found to be on the higher end). The chicken is SO tender and juicy, it makes for excellent leftovers and won't leave you feeling guilty for eating. We can never get enough of their fried yuca and whatever the tasty mild mayo sauce is that they supply with it. I love that we can have this delivered and the quality of the food doesn't rapidly disintegrate with each minute it sits in the delivery vehicle (as most food does). This is one of the healthier staples in our list of takeout/delivery venues and I recommend to anyone to try their chicken as you won't find it better prepared for the price anywhere out there. read more

As a lady of the sun, I would like to surround myself with the fields of golden roses and fire plums that Highgarden is known for. Basically, I want to be Lady Olenna. That being said, this winter is absolutely killing me. My fear of winter's cold winter touch has basically forced me into malnutrition since I hate facing the outdoors. Lucky for me, I have lived to see another day thanks to District Rico's delivery Peruvian chicken via Postmates. Their charcoal grilled chicken is just as good as their suburban counterparts. Juicy on the inside and a flavorful crispy skin on the outside. My only complaint was my side of potatoes and spinach looked like an absolute oily mess -- I didn't even mess with it even though some veggies in my diet might have helped ward off my impending scurvey. Omg the chicken is moist, juicy and seasoned perfectly. The brown rice and plantains are to die for. Don't forget the homemade sauces. The mild yellow one is the best only because it not hot, but if you like hot try the green sauce. Inside was every clean and the service was very friendly and welcoming. We had just finished touring the American Indian Museum and were starving. Thrilled, I found a Peruvian restaurant a few blocks away, we were not disappointed. Our only issue with such a small menu was not being able to eat one of everything. We were greeted immediately, friendly faces and lots of smiles. Regardless of who was working behind the counter, this is a true Peruvian greeting. The 4 of us briefly perused the menu and made sure we all ordered something different. I read reviews first and knew the kids menu was served large, but both kids finished it all. My daughter used my Pollo Saltado gravy for her chicken fingers and fries. The ambiance is bright, yet contrasting. The ceiling tiles are painted black, but you can still see the details. It's a simple, inviting space, with all condiments centrally located. The prices are incredible, considering the area. We looked at many restaurants before deciding to walk here. The menu is family friendly and can be accommodated as food is prepared directly in front of you. We will return for the family meals (2) and sides. Fantastic! read more

District Rico, we LOVE your food! But I have a complaint. I have called several times to place orders for pick-up, and have been put on hold for up to 15 minutes, with each call ending in being hung up on. I wouldn't mention this if it hadn't happened several times. My family loves eating your food at home, so we'll continue to use Uber Eats. Favorite order: whole chicken with extra sauces. Around my work place there is a lot of food trucks, but if I want a constantly good meal I always head into District Rico! District Rico is a Peruvian chicken place with a ton of side dishes. District Rico offers a lot of items but there best is by far the chicken. You can get 1/4, 1/2 or a whole chicken. Depending on the size you get a number of sides! I normally get the 1/2 chicken which is really filling. Now the secret to this place is to choose your sides wisely. Depending on your mood and what your craving the sides can greatly elevate your meal. For example when outside is a little chilly or raining I normally get spinach and potatoes as one of my sides because it's rich and warm. However during the summer time I tend to get yuca fries and maybe a salad. I've also tried the lomo saltado, and nazca sandwich. These two items were for me on the more saltier side and left me unsatisfied. When ordering items other than their rotisserie chicken I highly suggest checking your order if you get additional side items. When I got my Nazca sandwich I also ordered a side of yuca fries. However I was just given my sandwich, luckily I kept my receipt to show them I got yuca fries. Yet they still messed up again and they gave me french fries. So I had to go back and tell them I got yuca fries, not french fries. The thing that really bugged me was the lady at the register blamed me for saying it incorrectly. Which blew my mind since I gave her the receipt, and I had paid extra for yuca fries because I wasn't allowed to sub it out for french fries which was only $.99 while yuca fries was $2.5. After that interaction my co-worker who got chicken taco's asked for sauce for her french fries. The lady then said next time we have to charge you for the sauces. Which didn't make sense since we saw the other cashier give out sauces for free without saying anything when someone asked them for extra sauce. Overall, if you want Peruvian chicken this place is really good for it. They also offer a lot of sides to mix and match depending on your mood. The sad part is the service varies based off who is working. So I advise if you want anything besides Peruvian chicken to go somewhere else to save yourself a headache. read more

This place used to be a novel place for a tasty sit down style meal, but it's gone downhill with the flavors yet upwards with the prices. Everything tastes bland now especially the lomo saltado, which was a huge disappointment. The sides also taste like they were re-cooked from the day before and not very fresh looking. Also be prepared to wait an extra 10-15 minutes for your food to be ready if you order anything except chicken, as that is their main offering. With other viable places to eat, plus the DC Chinatown near by with its restaurants, I think I'll skip this place going forward. read more

When I was younger I hated rotisserie chicken because my mom fed it to us all the time. As an adult...I know rotisserie chicken is the solution to a busy schedule!! The chicken here is soo good! At anytime they have like 40 cooking. I came here for lunch with a co-worker (his first time). I had the kids chicken tacos and he had the burrito . No matter what you order it's seriously enough to feed more than one person and you'll either be leaving stuffed or with half a plate of food depending on how much control you have. I always order the kids tacos because it more than enough for me; its honestly probably enough for 2 kids! The food here is always fresh and delicious! And as a French fri connoisseur, I LOVE that this place has fries! Tacos and fries! The two loves of my life! The guy who cashed me out said I should have ordered a chicken plate but it was too late. I had already gone with a safe bet - a chicken burrito. Oh how I disliked everything about this food. Every ingredient was bland and dry or wilted. The sauces were particularly awful - essentially just mayo with degrees of flavors added, none edible. There was supposed to be pico and guacamole. The pico was a few diced tomato pieces. I got one bite of a blob of guacamole. I ended up unwrapping it to see if there was anything salvageable. Nope. Into the trash it went. Okay, wow. I gave District Rico another shot and ordered delivery via Postmates last weekend. I ordered the half chicken with yuca fries and plantains and because I live for excess, added on sides of coleslaw and white rice. This meal was insanely delicious. Every single component was flawless and exactly what you'd hope for. Piping hot, juicy chicken with heavy seasoning infused all the way through. A little crunch and snap from the skin, and tender dark meat. The plantains were sweet and ripe with those amazing crispy bits on the edges from good caramelization, and the coleslaw was perfect to cut through the carbs. The yuca fries were perfect (the quality of the yuca fries is very consistent) as per usual. My only complaint, I wish this were closer to my house - and that I could put their spicy green sauce on everything I eat! Best peruvian chicken in the District, hands down. The meat is tender and juicy, the potatoes are flavorful, and the rice just right. My only complaint is it didn't come with a small loaf of bread -- which tends to be customary with Peruvian meals. I love the food at District Rico, but have to give it 2 stars based on inadequate management. Despite closing at 9PM most days, I cannot recommend going here after 8pm. Today was the second time in a week I attempted to go around 8:25 only to be told there was no more chicken. This is a rotisserie chicken restaurant and now twice they "have run out" more than 30 minutes before closing. While I understand the desire to not waste food on the restaurant's part, if you don't have your main ingredient up until closing time, it's hard for me to understand why the restaurant doesn't just close earlier. I may go back to ordering from District Rico on Uber Eats, but today was the last time I'll set foot in the restaurant. read more

WORST SERVICE EXPERIENCE OF THE YEAR THUS FAR! The food is usually decent.. Maybe this was an off night. The service was horrible though, and there's never an accident or permissible reason for that to ever be the case. I walked in and ordered a quarter chicken. I wanted white rice and corn for my 2 sides. The gentleman who barely spoke English just smiled and said "no more rice.." it's 645 pm, so I ask "ok are you going to make some more? It's still early" he laughed and smiled again to say "oh no sorry". Like.... HUH!?!? So I get to the register to someone else, and while displaying my disdain about the rice, I asked again, "why can't I get white rice"!? This gentleman looked me in face and laughed. He then proceeded to halfway tell me I'm very broken English that it would take "15 or 20 minutes"... I asked why they didn't start making it already. His response "we are having problems with the gas".... If there are gas problems, how can the rice be done in 15,20 minutes? Which one is it? Meanwhile as this man proceeded to ring me up, he proceeded to say in Spanish (I'm Panamanian and fluent in Spanish unbeknownst to this man) to his co worker "déjame sacar a este hijo de puta de aquí" or "let me get this motherf**ker out of here". Already furious, I didn't bother to speak on it. I just left. I will not ever return again because my business wasn't valued or appreciated there and I have never been more humiliated again. This was the first peruvian chicken place I've been to in the DMV area. The food is really good and the prices are fair. I usually get the plantains and the grilled veggies. The veggies do have a hint of lime. I usually get the half chicken and that by itself i a lot of food. The lunch lines get long but they go by fast. I'd say go around dinner or on weekends. This place is awesome!!! I don't eat black beans and I was very undecided about what sides to get... so I got the black beans and the fried rice with my 1/4 chicken dark and it was OH SO GOOD!!!
