Great place for lunch -- reasonably priced, big portion sizes, and yummy food! I ordered the 1/4 chicken (dark meat) with fries and fried plantains. The chicken was very moist and the sides were delicious as well. The place gets pretty crowded on the weekdays during lunch, so it's hard to find seating. Really excellent roasted chicken! We also had the black beans, spinach and potatoes ( which was almost like an Indian curry, be sure to order with rice) and the onion salad. My friend also ordered the Lomo Saltado, which we agreed was a little disappointing in that it had mostly soggy fries in a sauce with very little actual beef. One time I got a wrap and it's not like it was bad, but why not just get the best thing? Big fan of Sardi's here so I was excited when I heard of this place and that they delivered with Uber eats. I got the quarter chicken meal and the chicken was really good and juicy. Fried rice is always my go-to side and it didn't disappoint. However, I did find my meal to be very greasy, not sure from the chicken or from the fried rice (the fries were ok) but the bottom of my carryout container was just soaked. I couldn't finish the end of my meal just because the grease was soaking into everything. But can't complain too much because it is fast food after all. read more

Overall 4.5 stars. We were visiting family in DC and had the urge for Peruvian chicken. A quick search on Yelp turned up Chicken Rico, which my in-laws had never tried. My wife and sister-in-law drove out to run some errands and pick up the food. I tried to call an order in but the guy on the phone said that they would be able to fill our order in a few minutes in the store, so I trusted him to deliver on his promise. And he did deliver on that promise. My wife and sister in law came back shortly with a very large tray of succulent, delicious chicken, along with a plethora of sides (rice, french fries, yuca, plantains, black beans, spinach and potatoes, steamed veggies and onion salad). The last item the owner threw in for free and it was also delicious. As promised, they were in and out of the store in a few minutes and the owner even made the plantains for them fresh, as they waited. They ended up ordering a Family Special 1 (1 whole chicken and 4 large sides), as well as a Family Special 2 (2 whole chickens and 6 large sides). That was enough food to feed four kids and three adults for three meals. Friendly staff and a quick in and out - I highly recommend Chicken Rico. Update: came back on a rainy May Day in 2016 to get another large order (three whole chickens and 12 sides) and found the stuff as friendly and helpful as before. Do yourself a favor and get the quarter chicken with the beans/rice and fries. Make sure to ask for the spicy green sauce! So so delicious and cheaper than Nando's! I tried the pasta salad and thought that was very good as well, although it can run into the other food. Sometimes I even have leftovers! This place is a great stop for lunch. It's located between a Walmart and a Starbucks a few blocks from my work. You can smell the chicken from several blocks away. The half chicken deal is good; I typically order that and split it with a friend. Price is very reasonable for the amount of food you're served. There's plenty of seating inside and service is fast. My only complaint is that there's a lot of loitering outside the storefront that can be uncomfortable at times when trying to enter the establishment. read more

I've liked this place since a friend introduced me to its sister restaurant at Inner Harbor (Chicken Rico) a couple of years ago. This location lives up the high bar set by my first experience. What really took it to a 5 for me is how much my infant son loves the chicken. We shredded some for him at around 6 or 7 months and he exclaimed NOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM after his first bite. This past weekend, we ordered catering for his first birthday party. We got the 40 person package but there was enough food to feed 50 or 60. It was three pans of chicken and a pan each of 4 sides (we went with plantains, rice, beans, and yucca). We ended the party with a pan of chicken to spare and enough sides left over for leftovers. The food was delivered on time, by a super nice delivery guy, and everything was piping hot.Our party guests raved about how well seasoned everything was, and how juicy/tender the chicken is. Me and the staff from my store order from this restaurant a lot and it seems that they get orders wrong more time than right. This time they forgot the soda that I ordered and forgot the salad dressing for my salad. The next time I place an order that is wrong will be the last time i order from this establishment. I ordered a quarter chicken with rice and a house salad. The chicken was fine except for the wings, which are usually dried out and over cooked. This happens every time I have a quarter or whole chicken the wings are always really dried out to the point they can't be eaten. The 1/4 white meat chicken ($8.09) is a good size meal portion that that comes with your choice of 2 sides. I got white meat and chose plantains and spinach. I really liked the spinach side and the chicken flavor. I wish they gave more sauce than the 2 small sauce containers included - the mild sauce was really delicious. I also had the chicken from my friend's salad (Note: vegetarian options are slim here) and thought it was juicier than the 1/4 bone, so I would try the sandwiches or something else next time. The place gets pretty crowded during weekday lunch rush, but there is a decent amount of seating. A large group of us managed to get a few tables next to each other without much of an issue. Also, the food is served in styrofoam plates and cups, so don't expect anything fancy. My colleagues and I ordered District Rico to eat family-style in our conference room while doing some evening work. The chicken was quite good, as were the sides. (And I appreciated that they included a ton of different sauces for us!) The only downside was that the yucca fries were.... ok...but I have had better. I need to take one of those Ancestry tests because I'm pretty sure there's some Peruvian in me somewhere. District Rico is in very long walking distance from my job and it will serve as my emergency Peruvian spot. I'm a Sardis advocate, so I always use them as the benchmark. The chicken was cooked exactly like Sardis with crispy skin and moist and tender meat. The only distinction was the flavoring. District Rico's chicken had good flavor, but didn't compare to the gold standard. I'm not sure what flavor formula Sardis uses, but I hope it's hidden away somewhere remote. I got the mild sauce and it was par for the course. I saw some other sauces available, so I am going to try those next time. On the flip side, I found that the sides were better than Sardis. I got the fried yuca and spinach. The fried yuca was cooked to perfection. The spinach was soupy, but it was flavored well and had some surprise potatoes that really balanced it out. I didn't get to try them, but I could tell that texture of the fried plantains is superb. In closing, this place is great. I believe it has 5 star potential, so I look forward to poking around the menu and finding the sweet spot. read more
