I visited Maui again the week of 12/17/21 and did two dives. One on 12/18 as a refresher off the pier with Gu for the turtle and shark, beach entry shore dive which was awesome and a refresher as he described. The second on the 20th, with Capt. Strauss (Chantal), CJ, and our Dive Master Scott Scharmer. What a crew!! Sort if I left anyone out. I'm an open water diver, but it had been a while since my last dive, so my dive with Gu was really just what I needed to regain my confidence for the second two tank two dive at the Cathedral Lana'i dive site, despite having done a more advanced dive at the Carthaginian wreck years ago. The second, two tank dive was incredible. This crew is not only dedicated and devoted to what they do, they also pride themselves in all the safety measures for crew and divers. Amazing attention to detail, but it's done with great affection and passion that displays their love for the hobby and lifestyle. I can't say enough good things about everyone that I met these two days. Words are inadequate to display the great feeling of security and safety I felt to allow me to feel confident on these two dives. It had been 8 years since my last dive. By the end of my second dive, it felt like I had my sea legs. Our Capt. even took us into a cove off of Lanai and busted out with some humor about dragons and bears that could be seen out of the rock formations if we looked hard enough! I could spend days with these folks. She also made a couple of stops on the way back for us to see some whales. There are lots of good dive shops to choose from and I've only tried two in Maui. What I can tell you based on staying at Kaanapali beach and the dives offered, the times they offer them, their reputation, their prices and the way they handled everything, coupled with their standup comedy and good boat driving skills ; ) I recommend Dive Maui and look forward to joining them again on my next dive. Recommended scuba shop for beginners to experts. Priced reasonably and cheerful staff. Free parking at the street or in the back. We did Discover scuba dive with Alex, she was great and patient. She went over the instructions answered all our queries. She helped with the scuba gear, and we walked towards the beach. I had a great time with Dive Maui during my recent vacation. I did a refresher dive on a sunken pier that is a short walk from their dive shop, and got to see sea turtles, reef sharks, eels, porcupinefish and more. I also did the Lanai cathedrals boat trip, where we did two dives through beautiful underwater chambers. Everyone at Dive Maui was very nice and professional. They were also very thankful for our support coming back to Maui one year after the tragic fires. They don't need us to ask them about it, they don't need to relive it, they just need us to support them and let others know that Maui is back open. read more

Bottom line, Dive Maui may have saved my life. No BS. I was certified over 40-years ago. Had not been diving in 25-years and Dive Maui would not let me dive unless I went on a shore dive to make certain I could do a two tanker the following day. Easy, right? Well, after bobbing up and down and managing my ear pressure the entire time, our instructor (Jeff) said if he could tear up my PADI card, he would. I needed to get re-certified. My ego was crushed. However, the following day, my ears were so bad, I had to go to urgent care and if I had dove, it could have been disastrous. They told me the truth and they were on my side all the way. The whole team was fantastic, very clear in communication, helpful and safety focused. Did the Cathedrals 2-tank dive near Lanai. Lot's of fish and cool rock formations. The vis (30-40 ft.) was okay but not like I remember Molokini (80 ft) a few years ago. Used a shorty and that was fine but we are used to diving in much colder water. Make sure you take bonine! We took two each and I still felt lousy. I didn't "feed the fish" but it sucked just the same, couldn't wait to get into the water where the motion sickness disappears. Molokini is a smoother ride out and I'll probably do that or a shore dive next time. Only a three-star because of rocking and "burp" rolling :/ read more

Went back for a shore entry night dive at Mala Wharf, and a 2 tank, shore entry dives at Black Rock and Mala Wharf. Joe ran the night dive group and while it was a bit underwhelming with regard to what we saw, it was a great time, and felt completely comfortable with Joe getting us out there and back in the darkness. Abby was our guide for Black Rock and Mala Wharf day time. Really saw some great stuff, varieties of fish, eels, at least 20 turtles, and my favorite, 6 or so white tip sharks just resting among the wreckage of the Mala Wharf. No issues and completely happy with Abby's lead as well. Again, highly recommend Joe, Abby, and Dive Maui. read more

Had my first scuba diving experience after getting padi certified with Dive Maui! I did the 2 Tank Lanai Cathedral dive. As inexperienced as I am, their staff and crew (special shout out to Chantal!) took amazing care of us throughout the entire process. A few months ago, when I started planning a week long dive trip to Maui, I reached out to several dive shops in the area. Derick from Dive Maui jumped right on the phone with me and helped me figure out a schedule so that I could see a variety of different sites during my stay. Only one other shop even bothered to reply, but it was clear that Dive Maui was the right choice for me. I had an amazing week of diving. Everything from Dolphins and Eagle Rays at the Cathedral guided by Abby to a dive with more turtles I have ever seen in one place guided by Scott. I also mentioned not being nitrox certified and the team went out of their way to get me certified before my trip was over. Renee is an awesome instructor and really helped to explain how nitrox fits into diving and went above and beyond to make sure I understood everything and felt confident diving with nitrox. Great Crew = Great Experience Just did a two tank dive with the outfit and it was an all around great and seamless experience. The whole process of check in, gear preparation, and diving was very pleasant and truly felt like being with old friends. The dive itself was great and Chelsea provided an awesome experience for a group of divers with a wide range of abilities and experience levels. Do not want to ruin the fun spontaneity of the experience but I will say the whole trip involved reef exploration, immersive underwater volcanic exploration, and even a bit of a boat tour around lanai. We tried to book the hammerhead dive as soon as we got back however we were sad to see it was (deservedly) sold out but hopefully they add Chelsea to the hammerhead dive master roster soon because I am excited to book again! read more

Joe took us on an amazing wreck dive right outside the dive shop. No boat ride, just walk into the water! So many sea turtles... We told Joe what animals we were most hopeful to see and he found them for us - including a pair of octopus! (We were lucky to be there during breeding season.) We did the Lanai Cathedrals 2 tank dive over Thanksgiving week. We dove Cathedral #1 and #2 which was a great bonus since that's usually split into two trips, but everyone on our boat was down. For starters... Hands down the best dive I have been on to date. My fiancé and I primarily dive in Southern California, and I've been diving on Oahu. We both agreed that no other dive tops the first Cathedral! The captain and dive leads were all phenomenal. So organized, so sweet, and so enthusiastic to dive! We had the pleasure of diving with Frannie as our lead and she was incredible. She educated us very well, showed us many pictures as to what to look out for, and introduced us to a couple of her favorite underwater friends. She was happy to talk after each dive about my what we saw, and she took the time after getting back to the shop to fill out our dive books. Great experience diving with Frannie! This shop may not look like it, but it has the best real estate on Front street! We walked in the front door, put on the gear and walked a city block into the water. The dive itself offered great visibility and multiple turtle cleaning stations! Multiple white tip sharks, too! This two tank dive was shallow enough that we had roughly 50 minutes down time. Just Wow! The staff was very friendly and fun to interact with. I highly recommend this group. read more

Instructor Joe was awesome. First, in the morning, he took my two adult daughters (both PADI certified) out for Turtle and shark dives. They did two shore dives at two different locations. Then came my turn in the afternoon for my very first Discovery dive. Joe had myself and one other big guy to contend with. For me , it was challenging getting in and out of the shore after having to trudge my gear a good block or so and scrambling over the rocks to hit the deep water. At 65 I'm not in my best shape and was dealing with being breathless and a bit of panic. Joe was incredibly patient with us. Helping me steady myself, relax and breath. once I was under, it was an awesome experience. Joe regularly checked on us and our gauges. The experience was the best.
