Update from March 2022. This outfit continues to be 5 star -- the best! Our guide, Andrew, was awesome & we saw SO. MANY. WHALES. He captured some excellent pics, which he emailed us mere hours after our trip. Hot tip #1: book a private tour for the most flexibility. It's well worth it. Hot tip #2: go out of Olowalu for kayaking and Makena a.k.a. "Turtle town" for snorkeling.

Really enjoyed our time with our guide, Rachel! She shared great information about fish, Hawaiian culture, & things we can do to protect reefs & the ocean. She was great with my kids as well! One of my sons (age 9) was a little panicky at a few points & she was very helpful in keeping him calm.

    End of a great tour

I booked the solo paddle board/snorkeling tour and had a great time. My guide Lau made sure I was comfortable and explained the trip in great detail. Even as a proficient snorkeler and a frequent visitor to Maui, Las pointed out things I would have were she not so experienced and observant. The tour even ended with a rainbow.

This was an awesome day! We had John as our guide and I was very impressed with John. It was evident he has taken the time to educated himself about the Hawaiian culture along with the islands history, and he was dropping g knowledge throughout our trip; personally I appreciated and enjoyed it. We went out on a day when the swells were a little high so a lot of people canceled, so there were only four of us who went out in double kayaks. You Kayak out to the snorkel location and then hop out of the kayak into the water. If you have never done this before, these are all great learning opportunities. Anyway, we saw some turtles, and some really cool fish, there was even a school of flying fish that glided by.

    Beautiful rainbow while Kayaking!

My husband and I went Sea Kayaking with our guide Matt today and it was absolutely amazing!! We booked a group tour, but it turned out we were the only ones who signed up so we had a private tour with Matt! (Lucky!) We started at Makena landing at 7 am, and then Matt helped us transition easily to the water through the breaking waves. He catered the whole thing to what we wanted to see, so we kayaked north and followed the spouts of Humpback Whales to get closer and closer. After a while, we had two whales surface right near us (and then it happened again)! So amazing! He was very knowledgeable about the whales and was excellent at locating the best areas. Plus, we had a beautiful rainbow in the background and Matt was using his waterproof camera to take photos of everything. Next we kayaked over nearer to the shore and a coral area, known as turtle town. Matt anchored the kayaks and we put on snorkeling gear (provided). We went snorkeling all around there and there were many sea turtles swimming around and coming up for air. Matt was excellent at pointing us toward cool new fish and telling us about them! Again, so knowledgeable. We wouldn't have known where to go or what we were really seeing otherwise. We would highly recommend Maui Kayak Adventures. It was worth the price and was definitely the highlight of our trip. Matt shared all the photos he took with us and they look like professional photos! 5 stars!

Very personal and exciting experience. Me and my wife had our private kayak tour with Elise, she was awesome! Unfortunately all whales returned back to Alaska, but we did a very fun and quite interesting snorkeling: Elise knows all the places where you can spot a sea turtle or enjoy the views of coral reef. If you prefer more personal and relaxing rather that crowded and noisy experience - you have to go with these guys. Mahalo!

My family had the best experience this morning whale watching with Greg! Greg always seemed to know right where the whales would be and seemed just as excited to see the whales as we were. My teenage girls rate this adventure as one of their top experiences ever. Thanks MKA and Greg...perfect morning and perfect island vibe!

Our guide Curtis was exceedingly knowledgeable, funny, and kind! While we didn't see a ton of turtles in Makena, we still had a good time and some great shots. By far the most inclusive experience I've done while traveling. The photos were the chef's kiss because you can truly enjoy the moments.

As promised, he found an octopus and put on a show with it (humanely, of course). We saw tons of tropical fish too. The scooters themselves are an absolute blast. We were swimming with SO. MANY. TURTLES. (Apparently if you go in the winter season, you'd see a lot of whales!)! I know there are other "turtle town spots around the island, and we've been to a "turtle town". But the sheer amount of turtles you will see here is unparalleled. Our guides Derek and Robbie were awesome: 1. They took so many photos of us - diving under waters to capture the turtles and us, took 200+ photos and 40 videos and was constantly in the water looking out for turtles. 2. They are also such great swimmers and made me feel at ease given that I'm fairly new to snorkeling. At some point I lost one of my fins and started panicking, but Derek swiftly recovered the lost fin! We also capsized at some point, but with Robbie's calm instructions, we quickly made it back to the kayak. Whew! 3. We also heard several interesting stories and facts about the history of the islands around. Overall, this is absolutely a can-not-miss tour in Maui and we can't wait to be back for the whale season!

THE BEST THING WE DID ON MAUI!!!…read more We did the Ma'alaea Sunset Cruise with Captain Zach, Catherine, and Becca. The crew was so kind and so attentive. And the food was GREAT! We did the appetizer cruise and it was definitely enough food to be full. The drinks were great and the crew made sure our cups were never empty. The sunset was absolutely beautiful. We would absolutely do it again. They even have a photographer, so we ended up buying a picture from them (although $40 seems a little overpriced for one photo). If you are looking for a romantic (or just fun thing to do) on Maui, you have to check this out!

Captain Riley explained much of what the islands in the past (before Captain Cook) and to today. The boat (Trilogy VI) was brand new and beautiful. When we arrived on Lana'i we went to a beautiful white sand beach with great snorkeling, and a hike to see some amazing views. The food...! It almost never stopped with breakfast, a big and delicious lunch. Got back on the boat and saw dolphins, flying fish, and other tropical sea life. The crew were amazing from start to finish. Friendly, helpful, and great crew members. The photographer was friendly and knowledgeable about the best shots. They provide the photos electronically via a very reasonable $85 (nice as a keep sake of the photos of the two of us that the photographer placed us in.) Cannot recommend Trilogy enough. They've been around since 1973 and really have it figured out. Our 18 year old son loved it too. It's great for any age.

We arrived at the center early and there is pay via app parking in the public lot and checked in for the morning brief before we boarded our boat, which was the Kai Ko, a sailing catamaran. Afterwards, the whole group walked down to the docks for boarding. The Kai Ko is a lot bigger than I expected, which was able to accommodate up to 130 people with seating for all on 3 decks. We sat at a bench with a table up forward, but you can sit on the covered upper deck under the sail boom behind the pilot house or on the lower deck with the snack bar. We had the best view forward, but it is exposed to the sun & sea spray. A couple of families sat in the cargo netting right above the waves. The Kai Ko does triple duty for whale watch excursions, as well as dinner cruises and snorkeling, so is equipped for all three trips. For whale watching, they only use the engine and do not raise the sails, which they do use for more relaxed dinner cruises. We motored out of the marina and out into Maalaea Bay and encountered a mother and baby Humpback whales almost immediately. Later we encountered another mother and calf that was also accompanied by an escort whale, which is rare. The mother showed her tail flukes on her last deep dive, which is used to identify the whale by their unique tail markings. You learn a lot of whale facts from the onboard guides. Later, one of the crew lowered a hydrophone in the water to record & broadcast Humpback whale songs over the ship's speakers, which was pretty cool. There were other whales that did full body breaches out of the water, but we were really far away. The whole whale watch cruise is 2 hours and returns you back to the docks exactly on the hour. It was an exciting excursion and we got back in time for lunch.
