I purchased a tee shirt at Dive N' Surf to take home as a memento of my trip to Redondo Beach. When I got home to Northern California I washed my new tee shirt and put it in the dryer. When I took the tee shirt out of the dryer, I noticed the decal on the back was creased, sticky and damaged. I called Dive N' Surf to see what could be done about the damaged tee. Aspen answered the phone and was incredibly sympathetic. Aspen offered to mail me a new tee shirt to replace the damaged one, and within a few days of my call I received a new tee shirt! I consider Dive n' Surf as my neighborhood surfshop although I don't live in Redondo. The owners/management are really nice as they really are part of the diving and surfing community in the South Bay. Most of their "family" that work there are very knowledgeable and helpful. Just beware during their annually sale and during the holidays they beef up their staff and they might not know as much. So the veterans that work there have always hooked me up with deals and have never steered me wrong on anything. If you don't buy anything on sale, yes, it is pretty expensive like any other surf shop here in the South Bay, so tough it out until their annual sale or black Friday sale. Sometimes they text discounts so I suggest getting on their customer loyalty program. read more

I signed up for a refresher class and since I'm unavailable during the times posted on their calendar I asked them if they could schedule something on Monday. I was told yes and that they would send out an email blast to all their instructors and that they would call be back in two days to let me know. I paid for my class in full thinking that my request for Monday would be honored. We'll two days rolled around and I did not hear back from anyone. I followed up and said no one had gotten back to me and was checking in on the status. I was told no one knew what I was talking about and had to go into my whole spiel again about if they could accommodate my request for a Monday class. Once again, I was told yes and that they would send out an email blast to their instructors and that someone would call me back, blah, blah, blah. As you can guess. I heard nothing back. This went on for a third time before I asked for my money back which I knew I probably couldn't get back because they had already sent my elearning tutorial. So now I'm stuck with them. Finally I get an instructor on the line, Randy and he says that he can do it on Monday but he sounds petulant about it. It's funny that he sounds annoyed. Consider how annoyed I am as the customer that I paid for my refresher course over a month ago and still have not taken it. So cut to the day of the refresher and Randy and his arrogant, dismissive, condescending, pompous attitude shows up and proceeds to be nothing but a sarcastic jerk throughout the entire class. Hey Randy. I'm the customer. Did you forget that? He even said out loud that, "The older I get the more I've learned to not say mean things out loud." Really? I'm a student and because my skills may be rusty you want to say something mean about me? Did you forget that you're the instructor and it's your fricking job to, oh I don't know, instruct?! To teach? He is the reason why dive instructors get bad reps. He is impatient, rude, unhelpful and down right mean. Qualities that teachers should not have. Stop teaching Randy if your so much better and above your clients and your clients annoy you so much. I feel bad for his future OW students. He's the nightmare instructor that ignores a student who is about to panic instead of helping and calming the student down and being patient with whatever fears that student may have. For that you need patience and empathy, which is something Randy lacks. I couldn't leave fast enough once that whole torturous class was over. And let me add one thing. I happen to be a certified PADI divemaster and a DSD Leader, which means I can teach refresher course and discover scuba classes. I had been out for about a year or more and had a new dive computer to test out which is why I took the class. My skills were rusty and I starting to dive again before I go back to teaching and supervising on classes. Here's the thing. I know what skills you're suppose to go over in refresher classes and he skipped a bunch. No doubt because he thought I was too dumb to know any better. We'll I know better Randy and I know how students should be treated and you are the worst. To any current or potential new divers, do your due diligence when selecting a dive instructor. I broke my own rule but lucky for me I have enough experience to know how to take care of myself and what a crappy instructor is like and what a great instructor is like. Someone rude, impatient, insulting and belittling you. Trying to make you feel bad for making a mistake on a skill or for not mastering a skill is a poor instructor. A good instructor is patient, listens to you, is encouraging and is willing to work with you until you succeed, because a good instructor knows that if their students succeed and have students who are confident and competent in the water then they have done their job. Poor instructors could care less what happens to you and it shows. Randy is one of those crappy instructors to stay far away from. read more

I rented 2 wetsuits to take my granddaughter diving. The suits were nice, relatively new and it was very easy to get through the rental process. Unfortunately, there was a problem with one of the wetsuits. I want to be clear that this was a manufacturer's problem, NOT on Dive-n-surf. I wound up dealing with Thomas to resolve the issue. AlI can say is that Thomas and Dive-n-surf wanted to make sure that they earned my business for the long run, not for one rental. The staff was professional, knowledgeable, courteous and easy to deal with. So, despite the equipment problem, I have nothing but good things to say about Dive-n-Surf and Thomas. Dive and Surf is a very good local staple. Over the years it has taught my husband how to scuba diving and provided me with some very practical warm jackets. The price was reasonable, the setting is relaxed and parking is easy for a quick stop. Their scuba lesson cost $800 something a few years ago, which included a trip to Catalina Island at the end. Well, his buddy quit after the gf got worried after the last trip, so my husband haven't been diving after that for lacking a diving buddy. I just wish he would still dive after all that investment with the tank, the wet suit, the gadgets and that nice looking green game bag. My eyes were full of glee when he dangled that tote In front of me and promised me that he would bring all sorts of bounty from the deep sea. Man, I even dreamed about the sea urchin, sea cucumber and pretty corals filled that sturdy looking game bag! Well it's a very large tote, full of promising tote! Ha, so far I have only seen a sand dollar walking in the door. Well, he says he needs to get a fishing license in order to harvest anything down there, and he's waiting for his new prospective diving buddy to get the diving certificate. I guess I'll keep dreaming. Uh, where is that giant lobster u were going to catch, dear? I'm still teasing him as I'm passing that dusted wet suit on my way in from the garage. read more

My recent experience at this establishment was outstanding in every way. The young, male associate went above and beyond to make sure my purchase was correct. Secondly he described in detail, the importance and manner of installation in a very professional, knowledgeable, efficient, courteous manner that made me feel confident and welcome to return if need me. As a 71 year old with many years of retail store purchases, it is refreshing to find an establishment that practices such a high standard. Big Kudos to this fine place. Dropped into Dive N' Surf to check out the new store, Impressive facility. A little pricey compared to most of the local surf shops. Bought 4 t-shirts anyway figuring I was already there. Washed all four shirts before wearing to get rid of the funky new clothing smell. One of the shirts had a small hole in it. Tried to exchange the shirt 3 days after purchasing it, WITH THE RECEIPT. They would not even consider a exchange and told me I had to contact the manufacturer???? There are MANY surf shops in the area and I have shopped at all of them. I will NEVER shop at Dive N'Surf again they are over priced and their customer service is non existent. read more

Don't buy a Nitrox fill card!!! Dive and Surf offers 30 nitrox fills for around $270. Sounds like a great deal right? The only problem is they never have nitrox. I have tried to get my tanks filled twice in the last week and no nitrox. When asked when they will have more nitrox, I got a blank stare and a shrug of the shoulders. They built that nice fill station but don't want to fill your tanks, just take your money. read more

This humble surf shop was a good find. My buddies and I were looking for new surfboards for reasonable prices. I was amazed by the selection of surfboards they had in the little place. Although the inventory selection was pretty decent for my buddies and I, There was one HUGE problem, the service. As soon as we walked in, no one greeted us or offered to help us. When we looked at the boards, one of the store clerks came to us and rudely told us not to ding the surfboards, even though we weren't really touching the boards! Overall if you want a good deal on some boards and other stuff, then come here, but don't expect great service! read more

The cross joints and fasteners of the new overhang are not to code. The construction company is cutting corners for future repairs I guess. Good luck with that one. read more

Colleen certified me for both open water and advanced dive certifications, thus introducing me to a brand new life-long passion. If it had been another instructor, I might never have gotten in the water again after the first time. Colleen possesses the attributes of both an instructor and a teacher: She has extensive knowledge of, and experience with, diving, making her an effective instructor. She also has the ability to guide one through the inherent challenges of diving for the first time, e.g. leading students, encouraging them, using positive re-enforcement in correction, managing chaotic and panic situations; these all make for an effective teacher. During my first open water dive, I wasn't at first able to master the skills required, e.g. proper descent, obtaining and maintaining neutral buoyancy, proper ascent, surface gear removal and re-vesting. However, as an instructor, she corrected and re-demonstrated the skills herself when needed, and as a teacher, she exhibited an inordinate level of patience, knowing I'd eventually have to perform these myself, which I did. Being an effective teacher, she also managed situations (i.e. mask removal/replacement at depth, mask flood/clear, etc.) where I tended toward panic. Being outside of my comfort zone, I was tempted to abort the dive and walk (rather, swim) away. However, without compromising my safety, she was able to encourage me to take control of the situation, take my time, and concentrate on properly completing the skill itself, again, which I was able to do. I could go on about how much her instruction and teaching meant to me, but suffice it to say, she loves diving and she loves the ocean, and this comes through in everything she does. Because of Colleen's expertise and passion for diving, now whenever I enter the water, I am all the more confident, I all the more appreciate this art/skill, and I all the more look forward to my next dive. read more

He was up in less than one hour in low surf and caught a few farther out before the lesson over. That promise up within 2 hours. two classy friendly service oriented businesses. Their service team is great. Just got an air fill a couple min. before 9 when they open. The compressor was ready to go. last week they glued my wet suit for free. Always a great source for advice from guys who see broken junk all day everyday. I know that my fills will be good and I will have the air I planed to have. I rented equipment here for a dive at Veteran's Park and the gentleman that helped me out was very helpful and the rental area is very convenient to pick up and drop off equipment. I would have gave it 5 stars but it is expensive and pricey and I don't think I would usually rent here but I needed an extra tank right away. read more

I've only been advance certified for a year now and have already booked their Belize trip because I enjoy diving with the staff and regulars so much. The name says it all. It's mostly a diving shop with basic goods for other water sports. Wait for their annual sale for some good deals on items. If you're looking for a decent priced surfboard, its ok. I personally think you can find better bargains from other stores that don't specialize in surf boards, like Play it Again Sports, because they don't know the real value of what they have. read more

This place is the best. We tried several surf shops and couldn't find a wetsuit that worked for my wife. Dive N Surf has several sizes for both men and women and kids for that matter. Got a Bodyglove wetsuit for cheaper than I thought $125 can't beat that. Should of just came straight here I knew it!! read more

I started surfing again after an over 20 year break. My journey re-started by heading to Mexico for an all women surf camp. I went to Dive 'N Surf to just pick up a light neoprine shirt for my trip. The girl there was so helpful, even though it was a $20 or so purchase. Since then I go there every time I'm in the area. They always help me with clothes, wetsuits, whatever I need. I bought a 3/4 wetsuit because I live near Santa Cruz that zips over the top (so that it's not like an ice cube going down your back from the zipper). I had a hard time with it, they exchanged it no problem for a nicer suit. I hate shopping, I never get service at a place like Nordstrom because they only help you if you're going to spend some serious money. These guys helped me no matter what & and totally humored my "back in the day" stories. I was in there last week and the guy even asked me about my recent trip to Costa Rica. It was just really nice to be remembered. Oh! And the remodel is awesome!! read more

I just had the best experience at Dive N' Surf shopping for a wet suit. I was helped by Tres, Anders and Jack - yes, three people - because after Tres helped me pick out a wet suit and booties and he put it in the back for me, I was still indecisive and looking around and Anders spotted me and offered to help. These guys were so helpful and pleasant it made the whole experience much better. They were very patient when they could have easily been annoyed with me. At one point, this woman walked in and barked at them - "Hey, where is the sale on the surfboards," and they very nicely directed her to the right place. Just recently took an open water certification class at Dive N' Surf with Jason. Overall just an incredible experience so glad I finally did it. Jason was a great instructor, detailed, patient and even funny at times! I would highly recommend, oh and he doesn't let you use a mask or fins for the swim test so make sure you can swim the 200 meters without them! read more

This review is based solely on my experience in this store yesterday and mainly regarding the great customer service my family received. My brother and his girlfriend are in town visiting from Canada and my family decided to take them on a cruise to Mexico. Its the middle of winter where they come from, think 6 feet of snow, so they needed some things before we take off, like sandals and bathing suits. I decided to take them here because i know they are having their annual yard sale. My brother wanted to pick up some glasses. One of the guys that works there was helping us out. His name is Kevin. He was super helpful. He seems like a quick witted sarcastic guy, but it was charming in the I'm kind of an asshole but not kind off way. Well my mom and my brothers gf were smitten by this guy. My mom also kept coming over to me every 5 minutes and telling me in her loud voice how cute he was. I don't really know what she expected me to do about it. It was actually kind of hilarious how they were acting. Kevin helped them all pick out sandals and sunglasses. When we left the store i teased my mom about her tripping over herself in front of this guy. She shot back with, "i was not flirting!! i have just not gone to a store in a really really long time and had someone that friendly and helpful helping me!" I thought about it and she was totally right. Its been a really long time since any of us have experienced that kind of service.
