Shawn is a fantastic guide--professional, patient, and genuinely passionate about sharing the beauty of Catalina's underwater world. Safe and comfortable the entire time, while also keeping the dives fun and memorable. His knowledge of the local marine life is incredible, and he has a great way of pointing out things you might otherwise miss. On our last dive trip, it was also a real pleasure to meet up again with Ron Moore, the previous owner. It was nice to see the continuity of Dive Catalina's warm, welcoming spirit carried on from Ron to Shawn. The whole experience always feels personal and special, and it's clear that the love for diving and the ocean runs deep here. Diver's is probably my favorite spot in all of Laguna to go chill. It's... quiet, because it's…read morerelatively small compared to the Main Beach strand, but it's so special. It's usually clean and free of seaweed, and it just smells so good... no icky fish or seaweed decay odors; just clean ocean beach air. This beach only gets GOOD tanning sun during PEAK Summer hours, otherwise, it's kind of... a gamble on the tides and the time of day as to whether you can use the beach for tanning or not. It's a nice beach to NOT get tons of sun on, especially after about 5PM to sunset. It varies, of course, but that's TYPICALLY what you'll find happening. I do NOT believe this area has a lifeguard watching it (?) but correct me if wrong. I don't and haven't seen a lifeguard stand here. The next beach OVER, however does have a lifeguard watching post. This is the spot to go relax... and just sit with yourself and your thoughts. Let the tide rise a little, and then let it go out... and let your problems go with it. It's the best therapy for free you can get, I think... but, anyway... enjoy! :]

Truly the best place to swim in Laguna beach. The water is so clear and the waves aren't scary once…read moreyou get past the shorebreak. This is my favorite place to float and enjoy earth. When the waves come in, it creates little waterfalls as it cascades over the rocks and back into the ocean. There are leopard sharks and stingrays here. The little sharks are bottom feeders and never bother people. The stingrays, however, can sting! All the more reason to get past the shorebreak ... there are fully stocked bathrooms right up the hill which is such a plus for beach days! There are also lifeguards on both sides of the beach. The only downside is parking. It is limited but if you get lucky, make the trek down here!

Bit of a different review from everyone else for Olympus Board Shop: this is for their Onewheel…read morerental and sales! I came across them while looking for a local place to rent a Onewheel, the electric skateboards made by Future Motion. They're an authorized dealer; perfect, I'd rather buy local. I went to their website, and turns out they also rent! $70/day if less than 4 days, $60 for 5+ days. I wanted to try out a Onewheel before dropping $1k, so I texted and set a day to come by. They also require a 30min tutorial if you have no experience: perfect, I have zero experience and it'll be helpful to learn from a human. Tyler helped me do a few laps in the parking lot, let me borrow a helmet, and I went home to practice more. By the end of the rental period, I knew I wanted one of my own. After some back and forth, we got my order figured out and submitted. They applied the money I spent on the rental towards the purchase of a new board, I put down a deposit, and the wait began. Something to note: the owner, Jeremy, let me borrow a shop board until mine arrived. Due to some mix-ups with the delivery address, I ended up holding onto the shop board for weeks. I really appreciated having the extra time with the loaner and all the additional practice hours I got in. By the time my board arrived, I'd gotten a total of 18 miles in. For anyone else in my shoes - zero experience, nervous about spending so much, not sure if Onewheel is for you - this is the place to start. Rent first, learn on a loaner, buy when you're ready.
