Reading the reviews, it makes sense my they're rated poorly. My go to rental place opened at 8 am and I got out there a little early so I stopped by here. Rick and Seth were really nice helping me with a board. It's $20 for 1 hour, $10 after. My go to place as a little cheaper so I was short on cash and he gave me a deal-cool! It's the owner that was so rude! Talk about poor customer service!! Because they didn't have chalk for my board, my board slipped onto another board on the sand as I was laying it down. The owner literally yelled at me for it! What an asshole. These boards get hit and beat all in the ocean but you're yelling at me for laying it on the ground..I'd had a few surf lessons so it was just a matter of my practicing. The owner was very condescending, like I didn't know what I was doing. I did, I was there to practice. So rude! Talking to local, they don't recommend this company. Do yourself a favor and walk 2 more minutes to Aloha Boat rental and ask for Josh. Do better dive people. These reviews are hurting ya. read more

I am a bit surprised with the negative reviews, but they are older. We had a great experience with the staff. My daughter took surf lessons and everyone from check in to the instructors were great. Highly recommend taking a lesson with them, they were very encouraging & offered lots of positive reinforcement and made sure to go over safety. There's also someone that takes photos while you're out there surfing. She didn't pressure you into making a purchase. They have rash guards to put on. I'm not sure if you're required to wear theirs but if you aren't I would recommend to purchase your own as they smelled but definitely not a deal breaker. We also wanted to rent chairs and an umbrella but they were booked at the time, understandably so because it was the 4th of July. I checked multiple times throughout the day because my daughter was surfing and when done we wanted to lounge around. When a spot opened up, they found me, something they did not have to do but very much appreciated. Would definitely use their services again. read more

Fantastic!!! We were hesitant to take a group surfing lesson with 11 people and two instructors but Jason and RAF were fantastic!!! My husband (52), daughter (13) and I (47) all got lots of personalized attention and all three of us got up and rode quite a few waves!!! Scheduled 2 surf lessons. 1st lesson was great, first time surfing and Jason was a good instructor. Only issue with him was that he had us waiting 15 minutes so he could eat lunch. Lesson was at 11, we got there 10:50. Didn't actually start till like 11:15. Anyway not a big deal, still a fun time. Fast foreword to the next appointment which was a family lesson, and again we are kept waiting for a 11 appointment till 11:15. Then once we ask where our teacher is and then another 10 minutes later it's revealed the teacher called out sick. They refunded us and we took boards out by ourselves but with the rougher waves and nearly no experience it wasn't that fun at all. Overall will give a 3/5 because of the pretty good first lesson, but their unpreparedness for business the 2nd time and making us wait for 25 minutes just to be told we won't have a teacher was a little much. read more

They have a booth on Waikiki Beach. My brother, nephew and I decided to try surfing ($125 per person...board and lesson). Louie was our instructor. Personable and comedic at times. I can tell Louie lost patience with me at times, which I don't blame him...I don't think I was listening to well. He was cool with my nephew and brother...both did well for being first time surfing. After paddling out, I wasn't feeling well so I paddle back to beach...Louie tried to encourage me to stay out and try but I was just not feeling well(that's $125 wasted). He worked well with my nephew and brother. Both were able to get on their boards and road a few waves. My nephew did really well and Louie recommend him to try bigger waves. read more

This place is terrible. Being the monopoly on the Waikiki beach, bad service is guaranteed as a result. The workers there show no regards to people's time but just spent time on their iPad or talking to their staff and keep people waiting. They got our rental order wrong and said they can't issue a refund but offered that we can extend hours by charging more. WTF??? Worst part is the beach umbrellas they set up are extremely unstable. It's a hazard on the beach! During our 2 hours there, the umbrellas around us got blown over twice! One time our own got blown over and another umbrella hit my head!! Another time the one behind us got blown over and I had to stick my arm out to stop it from hitting me again!!! WTF?!?! Terrible experience! The city should do something and introduce more competition on the beach! read more

This company gets a ZERO. This company is terrible, I would rate them lower if I could. I asked them for a surf lesson and they told me, "I don't need one" they said, "just rent a board, you'll be fine." I was so upset, I told them I have no experience, I need a lesson and they still insisted, saying, "it's easy, you can figure it out, just rent a board it'll be fine" What the heck is going on? Why can't I get a surf lesson? Before I walked away the desk person admitted that they didn't have any surf instructors available. They told me I had to come back tomorrow. I ended up walking down the beach and ended up getting a lesson from Aloha Beach Services. Thank God for them! Also, Dive Oahu has the worst staff. The staff members are always on their phones or ipads, not paying attention to what's going on around them. WARNING: FOR YOUR SAFETY, DON'T RIDE IN THEIR CANOE! Dive Oahu had an accident today. Their canoe flipped over with people in it. This happened today, the video is on IG. Someone needs to close these people down. They can't give surf lessons and they can't give safe canoe rides? No Aloha Also hardly any wax on the board. I normally would not have rented here in the first place but we were in a time crunch and the place is down the street from our condo. We rented a board to tandem surf for $20 an hour, (steep price) and by the time we realized there was not enough wax on the board, it was too late as the clock is ticking. Don't forget to ask for a Kamaina rate to get a whopping $3 off your rental, because they won't tell you that upfront. We had pull our own board from the stacks, as the staff was busy doing I don't know what... After our surf session my husband informed them them that there was no wax on the board (which is why I kept slipping) their reply was: "Why you no switch them out then" and when my husband walked away the guy mumbled something under his breath. (My husband is born and raised local btw) You would think the guy would have said something like "Oh we'll get the boards waxed up so others can better enjoy their experience, thanks for letting us know" But no, they NO CARE as long as you give them money Don't rent from this spot as it is a bad representation of Hawaii, but then again it is in Waikiki so it caters to a certain crowd. But hey, when you're a tourist and willing to just throw your money, then I guess that's what you do read more

Awesome experience! Daughter and I learned how to surf together. They're all nice and easy going. Went back the following day to rent some surfboards to practice what we learned. Really great people, we only rented for an hour but told us don't worry about the time and just have some fun. We went way beyond the hour and didn't charge us any extra. read more

I took thier individual surf lesson. The instructor was terrible. First he knew that I was struggling to learn so he started the surf lesson from the deepest part where amateurs surf definitely not for novice. He also knew that I was not a good swimmer. Over there he would just wait for me to come and then push me and ask me to stand on the surf board. He probably didn't even care where I landed. Most of the time he would just chat with his friend, another instructor, there and when I managed to come back just push me again so that I ride the wave. Other classes from different schools they were being taught first in shallow coast before going to deeper and bigger waves. I would just recommend not to use their surfs or thimeir instructors and go one block inside to Moku hawai. I ended my lesson within 30 minutes and never Recieved my money back. read more

I caught some fun waves! The rental tent is located right on the beach near the Duke Statue in Waikiki. Easy location to get boards. Pretty simple process and price seemed normal. I walked up, left my ID, paid $20. The dude asked me if I'd surfed before. I told him yes and picked out my board. Waxed it up and paddled out. Waikiki can be crowded but the waves were fun and its an awesome view. Just seeing Diamond Head from the water was worth the paddle out. I was kinda surprised since they had a really good selection of nice, new, surfboards! At other spots I've been, most rental boards were beat up and ugly. 4 stars due to: convenience, good quality boards and hassle free experience. *They have chairs and umbrellas too, but I didn't rent them this time. read more

$45 for an all day chair (no umbrella) rental. I can get behind that fee, it is a tourist destination after all. But the attitude of the staff is what completely ruined this experience. Had a real nice time learning to surf from Jake who works on Fort Derussy beach. The surf broke far away from the beach and Jake pretty much "towed" me out to the breaks that was about a quarter of mile away from the beach. He positioned me for the waves, and when the wave came, he pushed me forward and yelled for me to stand up at the right time. With each wave run, Jake would come to me and tow me out to the breaks again. I really appreciated his care and attention. Good job, Jake. read more

Learning to surf is scary for a complete newbie to surfing. We rocked up about 8am to the stand on Waikiki beach. The staff were super friendly and explained the process. Great to not feel like your getting hustled, as the pricing was straight forward and very affordable for everyone. The surf instructor was friendly n super experienced. Lots of laughs and falls! Horrible service! Rented a umbrella at 5:00pm on 7/14/19. At around 5:30 one of the workers came and told took the umbrella as we were all sitting there and told us because it was sitting on its side he had to take it. He was very rude and unprofessional. Out of everybody on the beach he came and took ours. Older white gentleman. Really felt like he singled us out. Definitely will be letting all family and friends know about the horrible experience here. read more

Used these guys at least 4X/month for quick paddle after Star Beach Boys lost contract a while back. Was told by others that they would eventually do something to lose my business. Well it dropped today. Rented board for hour in decent surf. Paddle gave out and broke in to two. It happens esp with rentals. Figured I would grab another on beach and finish up one more paddle. Some creepy old guy watched me grab paddle where their equipment was. When I came back to claim credit card before I could say I word old guy came up with broken paddle pointing at me like he was Inspector Clouseau. Guy behind desk said they would have to charge me for broke paddle. Told him it was pretty weak and maybe as frequent I could get a mulligan. Creepy old guy launches into tirade saying I should never have just grabbed another one without asking and that clearly I was dishonest. Okay pops maybe you could of offered your opinion while you sat in the chair rather then jumping the customer at point of sale. His reply was "Well it's not my business." Shocked to hear that. Nevermind that they pay you to sit there for the chance to berate customers. Paid fee for broken paddle and told them I'll rent elsewhere from now on. Clueless about basic customer service principles such as "first in time, first in right" My spouse and I were staying in Waikiki and arrived at the public beach around 10:30 am to stake our claim on prime beachfront access by renting an umbrella and lounge chairs. Our attendant, a young redhead guy (our receipt doesn't show his name) was a nice enough guy and eager to give us a "front row" location. Unfortunately the veneer of customer service aptitude faded within an hour when he gave two parties spots right in front of us while all other "front row" customers didn't have to deal with late comers seeking a prime spot in front of those who staked a position early in the day. We were very disappointed by this placement because we were now looking at the back of lounge chairs and umbrellas instead of sand and surf. When we spoke with him about the fact that we were the only guests to be demoted to a second row position (all other late-comers were seated in back rows or further out in the front row) he pretty much blew us so we asked for a refund. He wasn't receptive to accommodating our concerns and dismissed our feedback so we asked for a refund. Unfortunately that wasn't an option so we canceled our four hour reservation and paid for two hours and left. It was a bit of a bummer because it was our last day on the beach. It's hard not to feel slighted by this situation. We recognize that our attendant is young and inexperienced in customer service recovery and this company has a hold on the market so buyer beware! read more

The staff here is extremely rude. We were setting up our towels and one of the staff scurries over and stands in our way without saying anything. We inform him that we're setting up our towels and ask him to move and he refuses. I offer to pay him for the spot and still he just stands there. We would have been totally fine with moving if he had just asked but to stand there and act dumb was incredibly childish. read more

We first rented two boogie boards for my kids - they had a blast with it. We also signed up for introductory surfing lessons(semi-private) and that was also a super hit! Trainer David was very patient and helpful with the kids. Would absolutely swing by for another session at next opportunity! Give it a try when you are in this area. read more

Terrible company! The owner Brian Benton whose about 300 lbs and sounds like the hulk has a temper like no other. He thinks because he has money he can buy his way in. He threatens others and says they cannot operate in Waikiki. He has unqualified "board boys" and instructors working for him that are clueless about water safety. One man already died out in the water and dive Oahu claimed it's not their problem because it wasn't their customer..wow how ridiculous is that! Do your selves a favor and don't rent here! Chris tackled it with positive energy and care, and literally both of them were up, on the board, first time - and just about every single time after that! Would highly recommend them, especially because of the exceptional service from Addy, Sarah, and Kevin! They were very friendly and gave a lot of good tips about the surf! Stopped by for our annual holiday outrigger canoe trip (which was fun as always, and loved the new canoe) and was impressed by the great service and very friendly and attentive people, even during the busy holiday season! We usually hang out in our own chairs in front of the condo a couple blocks away, but this year we decided to rent and try out the new chairs and parasols there and really enjoyed the day. Definitely recommend as a great place visit in Waikiki. Although I don't surf, the new surfboards looked great and there was a constant stream of people learning and having fun. Well done! read more

I just took my NITROX tanks into Dive Oahu for a fill. I got my last NITROX fill there. The hot but dumb sales-girl told me they don't do NITROX fills. I JUST got my NITROX tanks back from them, filled with 30.7. I said, fine, just fill them with air. She told me it's illegal to fill NITROX tanks with air. What??? I do that all the time. Air is 21% NITROX! If you just want to be difficult, that's one thing, but don't claim it's illegal. I've got to find a new dive shop. Pass on Dive Oahu. read more

I rented an "all day" umbrella and chairs at about 10:30. I was told they closed at 4:30 and that we could come and go as we pleased. We left at about 2:00 and told the staff we would be returning. When we returned at 3:40, our umbrella and chairs were gone. I spoke with the guy who rented them to us and was only offered a lame and insincere "sorry" when I objected. Rented a surfboard for a about an hour and everything went smooth. You can pay by card, they have lockers, the boards are in good condition and the staff is nice. It might be a bit more expensive than other shops nearby but you cannot beat its convenience. I'd recommend them. read more
