My husband and I have been diving for a little while, always renting equipment. We finally decided to start acquiring out own, and purchased BCDs from Chris and Tanya. Since diving means travel, we wanted the least bulk to fit in our luggage, and researched back wing systems, which they could provide. They fitted us with systems they put together and then took us to the pool to make sure they were properly fitted and gave us some tips on buoyancy control with the different fell to this type of BCD. After out pool outing, we tried to pay them for their time, at which time they let us know that helping us adjust the fit and giving tips on use was part of the service. Several websites warn of the difficulties of fitting a backplate wing BCD while also singing the praises of how great they are once you adjust. I highly recommend going to Chris and Tanya! The Best Local Dive Shop in the Houston area. Have done all of my Advanced Certifications with Dive Zone Scuba and they were excellent. Oh by the way! Most of the Equipment that I used during my training is the ones that they sell (Which means they don't deal with Cheap stuffs). Also, they go offshore almost every week out in the Gulf. (Which is a spectacular Site and great place for new / amateur divers to get the true taste of Salt water Diving.) Dive Zone is just such a friendly, genuine and awesome business. I have been incredibly happy in my experience with Dive Zone Scuba. I did some discovery dives in Cozumel and fell in love with the hobby. I immediately started emailing shops all around he Houston area to get certified. This was on new years and Chris and Tanya responded promptly, even though they were on a dive expedition. I booked another trip a few weeks later anticipating that I would get certified in time. Even though I was a little foolish in my timing, Dive Zone bent over backwards to work with me and my restrictive schedule to get certified. I did get the course completed and have gone on a handful of successful dive trips since then. I did my confined and open water dives with Chris. He has such a wealth of technical and practical expertise, I definitely got more than just "open water certification" knowledge. I live in the Neartown/Montrose area but choose to drive to Pearland to buy and learn with these guys, it is worth it. I've started buying my equipment from Dive Zone, and really feel like they are altruistic in their recommendations and aren't just trying to sell me pieces that make the most money for them like other dive shops, but are genuinely recommending equipment they have vetted/tested that will function and last. Their prices are also phenomenal. Not sure how they offer internet pricing as a brick/mortar, but they do. I enjoy popping into the shop and talking with Chris and Tanya. They seem so interested in talking about my dives and the informal instruction when I tell them what went right or wrong. I've gone here three times hoping each would be better, but each times it gets worse. Even though I literally live 30 seconds away, I will be going to Houston if I need a dive shop. The first thing you notice when walking in is the horrid pet store smell, which I'm guessing comes from the birds that in cages. Once you get over that, you wonder how they can run a business due to their lack of organization. It looks similar to one of those houses on the TV show "Hoarders". The lady that works there is VERY nice, has always been helpful, and is the only reason why I'm giving two stars. However, the man always seems to be in a bad mood and seems to be inconvenienced that you asked a question. read more

I'm a huge fan of yelp, it never steers me wrong and I want to set the record straight. 1 this place does not smell 2 there are many dedicated customers, I see them come in and out 3 yes, the place could use some polish and filing but that does not distract from the quality of teaching and equipment. Sure, It's not organized the way I would have done it but some people don't like their eggs dry and rubbery and steaks bloody like me. This is the WORST dive shop I have ever been in. The store is an absolute mess. Then to top it off they have a bird in it which makes the entire store smell horrible. The lady was nice but the chaos of no organization is enough to make you keep driving. I have never seen such a mess! read more

First off, the owners Tonya and Chris are very friendly and very knowledgeable when it comes to scuba gear and dive locations. Second, their Open Water class was great and gave the foundation to help better understand not only my safety but my dive buddy's safety as well. Third, when buying equipment from them, they always will match a reputable competitors price and more than likely beat it as well, I have purchased my Fins,Goggles, Wet suite, Snorkel, Dive comp, Dive bag, wing and plate and also my harness and pouches from them and couldn't be happier with my purchases. Finally, when my wing and plate was complete and ready for me to pick up, Chris would not let me take it home unless he was confident that I was comfortable in it and knew how everything functioned on it. with that being said Chris took it upon himself to take me to the lake to help adjust and teach me how to use my new wing and plate. I would avoid this shop, mainly the owner, at all possible. Owner likes to hold items ransom that he finds from other divers. As we all know, this is not a common practice amongst us. He found a tank of one of our customers, name on it it/records to support, and still tried to say it needed to be paid for to be returned. Karma sucks a bit so let's allow him to enjoy being an asshole... Watch your gear at the lake, ps they still carry swim diapers for folks like yourself. read more

I just recently got certified in both the Nitrox course and the Advanced Open Water course. (I also took my beginner's course there.) Both Tanya and Chris are excellent instructors. They are extremely knowledgable and professional. Also accommodating for my schedule. I've never been in any large classes and they never have a lot of divers present in one class for the water dives. I never felt neglected. I think that the previous reviews about the shop being unorganized is because there is so much equipment in a small space. Believe me, these guys are well organized. I felt extremely safe on all of my dive trips with them and feel well-equipped for any future dives. This is not an organization that is just interested in taking your money and then not seeing you again once you are through. They genuinely care about you and your safety is their utmost concern. Second is that you are enjoying yourself. I bought scuba equipment from them and feel that their prices are very reasonable. I also recently went on a dive trip with them and had a wonderful time!!! My wife and I took the course here to get our open water certification. We had an absolute fantastic experience with the shop and the owners. They accommodated our schedule without hesitation. They are very good people and good at what they do. They helped us every step of the way and really made us feel comfortable. DO NOT GO HERE! Yelp will not let me post this without giving any stars but they do not deserve the one star I was required to select. I bought a Living Social deal listed for scuba lessons with a lifetime scuba certification to 60 ft. It also says it must be completed within 6 days of start date. I scheduled my class (m,w in class) (Thursday in pool, Saturday, Sunday in lake) which is all the same week. I live about 45 minutes from the dive shop. I took the class Monday and Wednesday. At the end of Wednesday's class they fitted us for scuba gear and have us directions to get to the pool for the next day at 5pm. On Thursday at 4:30 pm when I was already almost at the pool, I received a call from shop owner saying that the pool is rented out for a private party and we'd have to reschedule the entire rest of my diving days. I set it for the very next week. I called to ask about something else during the earlier part of the week and mentioned that I'd see her Thursday. She said again, that the pool would be closed but she would set it up for us to dive at a friend's pool. I called again to confirm the day before, and she said that the friend's pool was not an option and I would have to reschedule. She told me to call anytime I wanted to and tell them I'd be there. It took me two months to finally work out a diving schedule. They did manage to bring my gear to the pool and that went fine. That Saturday I get to the lake and was required to pay $15 entry fee (this was charged both days.) Also as I was leaving Saturday they told me not to forget to bring the required $60 the next day to pay for the rental of the gear. None of these things were mentioned in advance and the deal says with certification. It became clear to me that I would not receive my certification without paying the extra $90. I think that this deal was a huge ripoff, what started out as $199 ended up being $289. I'm sure living social saw none of the extra money they pilfered from all of us that bought vouchers and they pocketed the whole fee (except for maybe the lake entry.) I am extremely disappointed and feel deceived. Not to mention the whole shop was filty and I will never return to this place. The male owner was also extremely rude. If I struggled even slightly while diving, instead of offering help, he would write down insults on his underwater pad. The whole experience was horrible. Do not take the female's word for anything because she'll promise you anything and then her husband will just turn around and contradict it. Get EVERYTHING in writing, though still I doubt that will help. It is a shame that now I have to find a new place if I ever want to utilize my certification for more dive training or events. I realize that sometimes you get what you pay for with vouchers, but the whole aesthetic of the shop and complete lack of customer service seems constant. read more

OMG! This shop is absolutely DISGUSTING! I stopped in to purchase a new wetsuit, mask and snorkel. This shop was sooo unorganized it looked like a bomb went off in there. There was food, boxes and trash everywhere. Nothing was orgainized on the walls, everything was threwn about on the floor. Relucantly, I was given a wetsuit and told to try it on in the restroom. My mother had to wait in the storage area for me. Inside the restroom, the trashcans were overflowing, it stuck, the carpet, mirrors and sink were filthy. I got the wetsuit on and turned around as saw a large pair of women's underwear, complete with a bloody kotex just laid out on a pile of magazines!!!! I COULD NOT GET OUT OF THE WETSUIT FAST ENOUGH!! I WAS THOUROGHLY DISGUSTED AND TOLD MY MOTHER TO COME LOOK AT IT! We got the heeby jeebies and hightailed it out of there telling the owner that we were grossed out and he really needed to get his act together if he wanted to run a business in Pearland. I, too am a Pearland business owner and I would be ashamed of myself if this was my business. I will drive to Sugar Land to make my purchases! read more
