Visibility was pretty solid, and we spotted several fish cruising around. The waves were calm and totally manageable, which made it relaxing instead of stressful. There's also a vigilant lifeguard on duty, which adds a nice layer of peace of mind. Even if you're not snorkeling, it's a great spot to hang out and sunbathe. Seaweed was around but not overwhelming, definitely not like swimming through a kelp jungle.

Nice young lady took my information, verified my C card, and pulled out a tank, wetsuit, buoyancy compensator, wetsuit, weights, and regulator for me. Tried on the wetsuit and placed the weights into the bc, paid the $65 for the rental and loaded it all up into my car. Fairly quick and easy. Made my dive, returned the rental equipment, and was on my way. I'll be back the next time I need to rent dive gear.

Long story short, they were able to get my gear back to me via the Laguna Beach location where John was did me a solid and got me my gear back. I have no idea why it took so much longer than expected. No one from the Dana Point location ever called me about a delay or offered an explanation. Take your business to the Laguna Beach location...the staff at the Dana Point location haven't a clue.

Experience 10/10 - My husband and I booked a February nighttime lobster diving excursion. The whole experience from start to finish was a core memory. Nick is super friendly and easy to talk to. He is an expert in his field and has fascinating stories so make sure you ask any question that pops into your head! The kelp forest ecosystem is really unique and how many chances do you get to explore it at all let alone at night? Safety 10/10 - My husband and I are not the most adventurous or active people and were a little nervous (very nervous in my case) about ocean swimming at night. Nick was VERY knowledgeable and reassuring, putting all our fears at ease. He assessed our prior experience and comfort levels and completely tailored the experience to us. While in the water he is professional and attentive, guiding you and directing your attention to the sea life (he brought many small lobsters and items of interest up from the bottom for us to hold, so cool!). He checks in on your comfort regularly and will escort you back to the beach with no fuss the moment you're ready (even if you haven't caught anything and then returns himself to finish diving for your dinner). Comfort 10/10 - Nick provides every piece of equipment you could possibly need. He makes sure you are well fitted in your dive gear. If you're worried about water temps, don't. The ocean will feel like a warm bath once you're geared up. After you're done diving, Nick buries you in warm sweaters and blankets and treats you to hot chocolate from a thermos so that you don't even notice the chill. Food 1000/10 - OH MY GOD. I am spoiled for uni and lobster for the rest of my life. Absolutely incredible to watch Nick prep and cook the fresh catch right on the beach while you sip hot cocoa. Mind blowing to actually eat the decadent uni and the sinfully buttery and sweet lobster. We were completely stuffed by the end and still had lobster meat left over!! 3 months later and I still daydream and drool over it... 2 small notes to make sure you get the most out of your time with Nick: 1. Go with the flow. Life happens, things don't run exactly on time, you're booking an experience in nature, and nature doesn't always cooperate. Just enjoy the process and you won't regret anything. 2. I also picked the dive spot after he explained the available options, their pros and cons, and a thorough game plan for getting out there safely. Walk along the harbor, look at the boats, and spot birds and sea lions. You'll see them lounging on the dock or boats and hear them barking every night. Be sure to walk down to the bridge and cross over. There are nice, grass areas with benches, picnic tables, etc. It's a beautiful view. Enjoy the beauty! There is a ton of free parking, clean public bathrooms, and the beautiful coastline. Then add in the dining, shopping, whale watching tours, paddle boarding, canoeing, sailing, and wading at Baby Beach.... This is a wonderful place to visit.

What a fun experience! We came out on a Friday morning and it was just us and another group going…read moreout into the water. They had a kayak that could hold 2 adults and a kid in the middle, along with life jackets. We filled out the waiver online, so it was pretty quick to go out once we got there. We parked a little farther up at the paid spots. We launched from Fisherman's Cove. Before this, we had only been kayaking in calm waters in Newport Back Bay. The open waters is a totally different beast. Not gonna lie - I was a little nervous during launch because the waters were definitely rougher than the bay, and I can't swim. But I always felt safe. We went out to a few kelp beds and just chilled there for a bit, chatting with each other, learning about the area and each other. Living in Orange County, I was surprised at how much I didn't know about Laguna Beach and I learned a lot just chatting out in the water. The effect was surprisingly calming as the waves moved underneath us. The kelp beds definitely help break the waves a bit. Although we did pick up some kelp while paddling, it wasn't too bad. There were a few waves that were a little bigger, and our poor kid started to get a bit seasick about halfway through the tour. The way back was pretty straight forward, and we landed right where we launched. Everything was done with such ease - we all really enjoyed it! Even our kid was talking about it once we landed. We were able to wear basic beach footwear on the kayak, but were encouraged to leave everything in the car since there could be a tipping event - luckily we didn't experience one! But they took some photos for us and texted them over. While we didn't see any marine mammals, we did see several types of birds. The experience of being out in the kelp beds alone was pretty cool - I can imagine how magical it is to see some dolphin or a whale out in the water!
