I attended Divers Institute of Technology from September 2011 to April 2012. I'll try to refrain from any fluff and just tell you what you get. You will get: 1. Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Unrestricted Surface Supplied Air Diver Certification, issued by the Divers Certification Board of Canada (DCBC) 2. Association of Dive Contractors International (ADCI) Entry Level Tender/Diver Certification 3. First Aid, CPR, Oxygen provider, A.E.D. and Blood Pathogens Certification 4. Hazardous Waste Materials (HazMat) 80-hour OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120 and WAC 40-hour HAZWOPPER Certification 5. National Association of Underwater Instructors (NAUI) 6. NAUI Open Water SCUBA Certification 7. Kirby Morgan Hat Operator Certification 8. API Rigger; Chevron USA API 2D (RP2D) (REV-6) Certification 9. Job Safety Analysis (JSA) certificate 10. You can apply for financial aid because it's accredited 11. It's great for ex-military. They help you with all the post 9/11 GI Bill Paperwork. 12. Also, depending on your first impression, you will most likely get a nickname. Mine being "Flodo". Thanks Darren..... What you will not get: 1. Pampered 2. Student Housing 3. A Free lunch. You will earn every inch of accomplishment and gain a real sense of pride. 4. Slack on safety. You will be safe or you will not dive. Employment: I got a job before I graduated. I believe that graduating from DIT helped a lot with this, but employment is not guaranteed. Getting a job depends a lot on who you are as a person and a worker. Choices: There are over 10 Diving Schools in the United States and I believe that this is in the top 3, but feel free to take my opinion with a grain of salt as I've only been diving since 1999. Advice: Commercial Diving is a life style, not a job. DIT will teach you how to live that life style in an effective and safe manner. I gave this school 4 stars because I can't compare it to other schools that I have not attended, but I had a very positive experience with my tenure at the Divers Institute of Technology. This school offers an incomparable learning experience over the time your there and after graduating offering refreshers and etc. A solid staff and instructors that teach and show you the right way to do it the first time with all different styles and always give you time if you ask for it. The school is expensive especially if your paying on your own, but it is worth it if your willing to want it and to be a commercial diver. They put you though real life situations and turn up the heat to see if you can handle under the pressure and function safely. Its all in a controlled environment, but this prepared me for real world situations I have faced and I'm glad I soaked up every word I could during my time there. Everything is well maintained at the school and is in great working condition and as students having that hands on experience of working on hats etc will prepare your butt when your working with someone(s) that doesn't know jack all. This is a serious business so think about it before being a diver and applying. It isn't all about unicorns and rainbows. One other thing is the safety they stress and preach at DIT not only talking about OSHA, Coast Guard, etc rules and regulations, but memorizing it, and also practicing it on a daily basis is something a professional commercial diver does every day of his/her life. Never take it lightly, its one thing to realize what your doing and another to understand it and DIT teaches that and you better utilize that in the industry of commercial diving especially graduating and going to work; its a dangerous and hazardous occupation. I was recently discharged from the military and attended DIT shortly afterward. I was very satisfied with their program and the certifications that they offered. The only other Commercial Diving school that could compete was CDA down in Florida and after getting to the Gulf and talking with some of their graduates I learned real fast that I made the right choice by going to DIT. The Instructors all come from different walks of the Commercial Diving Industry and all taught their portions of the course very well. I was most impressed by Jake Dow who taught the offshore section of the program. What he taught during that short section has helped me more while working than anything else. He would always be enthusiastic in showing us different and better ways to get jobs done. Even after we moved on to different sections of the DIT course Jake would continually followup on how we were progressing, he always answered any question we had fully and with patience. Due to the experience Jake had in the industry there was always something new to learn from him. I would recommend anyone who is serious about being a Commercial Diver go to DIT. read more

I graduated from DIT in 2011 and have been in the industry since. The instructors were extremely knowledgeable, the staff was excellent and what I learned has been the foundation I have built on. They never treated me like a number and whenever I call the school, they still know me by name. While the hats and bail-outs aren't all brand new - out of the box, they were very well taken care of. Monthly inspections were done daily, and I never saw a hat "in a state of disrepair". Safety was their highest priority, and taken more seriously than I've seen from many dive companies. The price of training is definitely an investment, but if you take it seriously, you will get more than your money's worth. When you graduate, they will help you find your first job in the sector you are interested in, and continue to help long after you are gone. Attending DIT has opened doors for me I never would have expected. If you are considering a career as a commercial diver, disregard the negative review and take a trip up to Seattle. Absolutely amazing school disregard the first reviewer he has no idea what he's talking about. The school is highly respected in the dive industry and I do mean HIGHLY. The type of training your receive at this school is the best possible for training for the industry of commercial diving. The instructors are some of the most experienced and knowledgeable. With fields of expertise ranging from potable water tank diving to deep sea oil rig inspections and nuclear power plant diving to tanks of oil. Divers institute of technology also has several dive helmets available all of which are inspected daily and repaired daily and a record of maintenance for all equipment. Dive helmets like the Mk 5 full encapsulated dive suit and the gorski 2000 dive helmet as well as nearly every model of kirby Morgan available today So please ignore that first comment He probably had a bad experience. Divers Institute of Technology I highly recommend for anyone looking to get started in the commercial diving industry. Whether offshore or inland, DIT teaches core values of safety, team skills, and fives the students the mental confidence to figure out projects that may be encountered in real world working conditions in the commercial dive industry. What I really appreciated about DIT is the instructors and teachers have worked many years or still currently work in the industry and stay up to date with the ever changing industry. DIT instills safety through out the entire curriculum and teach in a real world setting- to cold, low visibility, and various depths, and projects that are commonly seen in the industry. When I went to the school the staff was extremely helpful. Safety was always a priority from the day you started physics all the way to deep dives. They constantly ensure that you have the skills needed for diving by assigning homework every single module. As for equipment they only provide dive helmets and bailout tanks other than that though you'll have to provide everything else. If you are already scuba certified than scuba phase will be a breeze but once you're down there with a hat it's a totally different animal but I enjoyed it non the less. One thing I noticed about the school is that they push the offshore aspect of diving a lot more than inland but that shouldn't deter you from thinking about this school. They give you not only underwater skills but also shop skills such as welding, burning, cutting, grinding and etc... Overall a great school, just make sure to arrive early for parking. read more

I attended DIT in 2011, and was lucky enough to start at the new campus. Exposure to a large staff of professional divers, ranging from offshore oil rig divers to Navy Master Divers, lead to an equally diverse learning experience. Safety was always a priority considering the number of divers in the water at any given time and the projects being performed. There were many casualty drills for diving emergencies and injuries, with response being carried out almost entirely by students. Every portion of the curriculum, with the exception of the initial learning period before the class moves to the waterfront, is presented in a mostly hands-on manner. The class is required to work as a team to maximize dive times and accomplish specific tasks, as well as work individually during certain dives. All in all, those willing to contribute to the team and make an effort to learn will do very well at DIT. read more

I graduated from Divers instiitue a couple years ago. I had the best experience while I was in my training. I have been in the industry since then and feel their attention to saftey really prepared me for working after I completed the school. I learned how to take my time and do things the right way not the fast way. I think the Instructors I had were very good at training me hands on, side by side to make sure I did things safely and correct. I feel the gear and all the life support equipment was top of the line and we got really good hands on instruction on how to care for and service it on a daily basis. I looked into several schools for commercial diving before coming to DIT and after completing my training I would not consider any other school for commercial diving. I deffinatly recomend DIT to anyone who wants to become a comercial diver. read more

Loved my time here. It is a fast paced school which makes you excited with each new module. Each instructor bring an exciting background from a different field in the commercial diving industry. Glad I went to this school and definitely felt comfortable underwater with whatever task would be given to me. Instructors made a great example when it came to safety and ensured that students followed a safe dive. Have recommended many of my friends to this school with a total of four attending already. I don't know what the other reviewer was talking about. I graduated January 8th 2013 and DIT was great. There is a lot of experience and wisdom at the school. Sure they may accept some douche bags and it's all most impossible to fail, but its a business. And it may be expensive but they hire quality people, buy quality equipment and the price is comparable with other dive schools. I enjoyed my time there very much. I loved my class (106-12!!!) all the instructors and staff. And best of all DIT is in Seattle, one of the best citys in America. read more
