Went in for my hair to be dyed, got Jolie - generally takes 2 to 3 hrs at my normal place. I couldn't get an appt w my normal girl (at another salon) and went here instead - HUGE mistake! Took over FIVE HOURS! Jolie was doing my hair and while the cut was really nice she LITERALLY was on the phone (her cell) speaking in Cantonese for HOURS. She left me under the dryer TWICE and took other customers (full shampoos and cuts!) while I sat there for around 45 mins each time - not because I needed it, so she could use the CHAIR! Angel, the other stylist was really nice and we had full on conversations while I was just sitting there. I had to tell her my head was burning twice. My biggest complaint is that I have naturally BLACK hair and went in for RED color on top(I wanted a touch up!), she just threw bleach everywhere. I have areas of BLACK hair that she put bleach on the roots of. WHAT kind of touch up is THAT? She HAD to see what she was doing. But after 5 hours (mind you no one even offered me water, I think if you make me wait that long you could at least make sure I didn't dehydrate) I was ready to leave. This is no "SALON" this is a place where a lady has some scissors and dyes. It's a SuperCuts with better decor. read more

It was getting expensive (because I would have to get it fixed elsewhere - hair done twice) and unsatisfying. Fortunate for me, two of my cousins recommended I go to Katie. Fast forward since 2009, today it's 2013!!! Wow about 5 years how time flies! I followed her from her last salon to here. You don't have to take my word for it, but my family (siblings, cousins) and their friends also go to Katie too! I've recommended her to the people in my life and they all reported being very happy and new customers for life. Katie is always busy because she is in demand! Men, children, and of course ladies! She always cares about the people she does hair for. She doesn't stop until her customers are happy with the end result. The Divinity Hair Salon is the place where I come to get a great hair-cut. I am very picky on how my hair is cut. I knew on my first visit this was a great place for hair service. The number one policy is honesty; there are no fake promises on what can be done to your hair. I have been coming here for almost 1 year, I have never been unhappy with the service I have received here. This place is very business like, but I also find it enjoyable and pleasant on my visits. The staff there are professionals in what they do, although I just get hair-cuts there, I have seen some impressive hair work done there. I have also notices the staff are continuing having educational classes on-site, on hair care. I'm giving one star only for customer service - the lady who did my hair was nice and friendly. However, I was not happy with my hair. I went in to have my hair styled for a wedding. I asked for my hair to be curled so it would last all day for the ceremony and reception. After paying $40 for this simple request, I know that I would have been better off doing my own hair. Within 20 minutes, my hair was frizzy and losing the curls. I had asked her a couple of times to please do what she could to make sure it would last. She would leave the curling iron on my hair for two seconds, which wasn't enough for the hair to hold a curl. I don't get my hair styled often so I don't know if I should've requested more.. But last time I got my hair done in a similar style for another wedding, my hair lasted all day long without any touch-ups. Yesterday, after Divinity, my hair started frizzing up right away. I wanted to go back to have it fixed, but I couldn't risk missing my makeup appt. Before the reception even started, I was tired of making trips to the restroom to try to fix my hair, and ended up pinning my hair back for the rest of the day. Go see Katie! She's a newbie at the salon, but comes with 9yrs experience! I recently moved back to LA, and was in search of an awesome hair stylist! I didn't think I'd ever find one to replace my SF hair stylist of 6yrs. I found Katie through friends... who rave about her and always get compliments on their long layers. Katie gave me the hairstyle I wanted and works fast! She also cut my husband's hair (which is longer, thicker and has more volume than mine!) and he was super happy with his trim. I think the salon takes walk-ins, but you should call and make an appointment, if you need to get in and out. Haircuts are $15. You pay extra for wash and style, but it's still reasonable. read more

Well, I decided to come here for a haircut after a recommendation from a friend and reading a few of the reviews on Yelp. I really have to say, this salon is really nice and gives nice hair cuts. I was looking for a place to get my hair cut since my regular guy moved to LA and I didn't feel like driving out there every month for a hair cut. A buddy of mine recommended for me to go check this place out and I finally decided to go since my hair was growing out of control. Anyways, I made a appointment with Joly and and she did a wonderful job. Super friendly and knows how to cut Asian hair (Ive been to a few places where the girls cannot cut Asian hair at all ....Supercuts :( back when I was in college hehehe) Well, if your looking for someone that knows have to cut Asian men's hair, give this place a shot and ask for Joly. Jolie was my hairstylists. i wasn't planning on getting my hair done by jolie because of all the negative reviews, but she was the only one available. I'm glad she did my hair. She's so sweet and knows how to cut hair. i walked out feeling like a million bucks lol. she didn't even take long to cut and dye my hair like how the others reviewed. i think i was in and out of there within an hour. I told her I wanted to keep my hair as long and thick as possible. She made it short and wispy. I absolutely hate the way she cut it - based on the instructions I gave her. My hair is not that thick, but she used a technique, I suppose, to thin out hair. Why? My hair isn't that thick to begin with. I told her to keep it long and thick. I'm almost considering going back to complain or get my money back just to leave a statement. Listen to your customer!!!! I was very civil about it...but I am so upset! It's going to take at least 6 months to have it grow back anywhere near the way I had it. (Why my shortest layer is MANY inches shorter than what I told her was okay? I have no idea. Almost makes me think she did it on purpose. I guess the fact that the place was empty should have been the tip off...... The first time I went here, the 1st girl was fine. The 2nd time I went there, the girl did a good, simple job of cutting my hair, but she was a little rude in her demeanor. I went back to the 1st girl, who is very pleasant, but clearly doesn't know how to follow directions when cutting someone else's hair. I think she was bored and just wanted to have some fun cutting my hair however she wanted to. It looks wispy and thin and I am very upset. She said "How about some layers?" and I said "Very long, thick layers" and now my hair looks, unhealthy, wispy and thin especially at the ends....I originally went there to make my ends look healthy and now they look worse bc there's no hair there!! (Furthermore, as if it weren't bad enough -- the hair, especially the bangs in front, where it's obvious, is UNEVEN, -- can't follow directions nor cut hair straight. Now that's called skill ;) (sarcasm, for anyone who missed that) My hair looks thinner and not thicker, which was the goal and it's sloppily done! I am so mad!!!!!! It's not to say you CAN'T go here and have a good experience, but I, for one, am fuming!! .... Listen to what your client says! Don't do your own thing!!!!! Unprofessional. Then I moved to Torrance but me and my husband still go to her despite the drive. Jolie is the one that i go to but the other girls are pretty good too and very friendly. I went in to get a haircut by Jolee. All I wanted was a simple trim and side bang. FIRST OFF I'm pretty sure that when you get a haircut you wet the hair before you cut it, Jolee just decided to take a huge chunk from the front of my hair and bluntly cut across dry. She then lightly and barely cut any of my ends while she rakes at my hair roughly with a comb.I was so upset this is THE worst hair cut ever. I now have these choppy ugly bangs that I can't do anything with she didn't even thin out my bangs and since I have thick hair they sit too heavy on the front of my face it is so disappointing. She seems to be uninterested in her job and is very unprofessional. The salon did have hair all over the ground and wasn't very clean.Would not recommend this place to anyone ! If I could give this place NO STAR at all, I would do it! I had a 2:30 pm appointment and at 3:15 pm, they ask me to wait yet another 10 more minutes(!) after telling me it'll be "another 10 minutes" TWICE! Talk about unprofessional. They couldn't even bother to tell Jolie that I was there for my appointment --- I had to prompt them to do it! Then when she finally comes out, she starts working on someone else and tells me it'll be "another 10 minutes" - UNBELIEVABLE. I would NOT recommend this place to anyone. EVER! read more
