I would like to be honest about one thing. I never considered contracting Dixon Fence Co to do my fence when I first started looking for contractors to bid on my 60', two gate project. The logic behind this was, if Dixon Fence is not on Yelp, it is not good. This is why I am going to rate Dixon Fence on Yelp and share my experience with the fellow Yelpers. I first saw Nick and his crew around my neighborhood just when I was preparing to contact three major, well Yelped, fencing companies around my neighborhood. Then again, no Yelp, no way so I didn't considered having them bid on the job. Below are the summary of the bids I received. Company A: Big, big, big regional fencing company gave me the highest bed price I was going to go with them but they never got back to me. Never mind then, you are off the list. Company B: Well known local company, Pretty good price, but the rep didn't even bother going over their product. Just took measurement, gave me a price, and then left. Company C: Best reviewed company in San Jose area. The estimator actually never came and gave me a quote because I was out of their service area. The estimator was nice enough to give me his personal recommendations of my local fencing companies and Dixon Fence was one of them. Two days after Company C mentioned Dixon Fencing I convinced myself on my drive home to look up Dixon's number and give them a call when I get home. When I turned into my neighborhood guess who I saw? I saw Nick (owner of Dixon Fencing) and his crew working on my neighbor house! I approached Nick and immediately felt a good vibe from him. I showed him my fencing needs and went over my special requirement of having a two-way key lock installed on one of the doors. Since he was working on my neighbor's house he took his time to demonstrate his product and explained to me in great detail about how they construct their fence. His pricing was excellent, close to Company B but with a lot more TLC in the quoting process. I shook his hand and signed the contract with him on the spot. Him and his crew returned to my house two weeks later and built the fence within a day. Nick had to do couple of last minute changes to the overall layout due to problems with the sprinkler pipe location. He just pointed out the problems and let me his work around to the problems. I am pretty sure he spent a little more time than he originally planned due to these issues but he didn't even mention anything about it. He did run into issue when installing the special gate latch I requested him to put in since it was the first time he had to install something like that. The two way gate latch was semi working when they left. To be fair the latch was tricky to install and the printed instruction from the manufacturer was useless. At the end I had to do quite a bit of research before I found the problem and fixed the latch myself. No biggie, not going to ding Nick for this problem. Overall I am very happy about my new fence (construction, appearance, and of course the cost). I will definitely recommend Dixon Fencing to my friends and family. read more

I can't say enough good things about Dixon Fence! These guys are craftsmen. They work to specifications, and are sticklers for getting things exactly the way the customer wants it. They are very experienced, and can handle very unusual and complicated designs. We had them build a fence with custom hardware designed to reduce water contact with the posts, and with a channel cut in the header for the slats, and slats of different projections. Nothing was a problem for them. Dixon's pricing is very reasonable, and the guys worked steadily. The fence was finished really quickly. When I asked for a change midstream, it was done with no complaint or extra charge, even though it required taking down some of the work that had already been done. No other contractor I've ever worked with has been that laid back about changing things in stride. I didn't know about Dixon Fence until I saw a fence they built in my neighborhood and asked the home owner who had done the work. I think Nick gets most of his business this way, because his work and that of his crew is just so exceptionally wonderful. In working with them I found that their work ethic and business ethics are just as exceptional. read more

I live in Vacaville (Solano County) and my custom fence was in need of repair due to roots from one of our huge trees lifting the fence and causing the 8 foot sections to zig zag. Not much luck finding web sites or reviews of fence companies. First company, who shall remain nameless, gave a pretty high bid for what was only going to be labor, using all existing materials. At first I agreed to the job (would have to wait about three weeks for their calendar to open up) but after thinking about it and talking with others, the quote was a bit ridiculous for just labor. So I did another search and Dixon Fence Company caught my eye...licensed and over 20 yrs experience and I thought they were out of Dixon (nearby town). I didn't realize they were out of Hayward, but no matter because they cover quite the area. I called the number and wasn't real sure based on the phone call, as Nick the owner answered with just a "hello." I agreed for him to come out and bid the job. He was on time and actually early. Which was great because it was before work and I didn't have to go in late. He listened to my concerns about the fence and gave his bid, which was less than half of the original from the other company! I felt comfortable with him and sensed that he took a lot of pride in his work and was confident he could get the job done. My fence is a custom fence, and I was really particular about the work as well as not damaging my ginormous tree that I love dearly. He was able to schedule the work less than a week later. The night before I called hoping to push the job out one day due to conflicting schedule. He was able to come earlier which helped me out. He was promptly on time, early again! and started the work. They whipped the job out in no time. He did a great job and a nice clean up. My beautiful fence is back to it's old glory. I would definitely recommend Dixon Fence Company. Placed a second call and left yet another voicemail. Now 2 weeks have passed since the first call and 1 week since the last. Have had no attempts at contact by this business. Poor response or existence of contact after leaving messages. Of the 8 fence companies I have contacted, 4 did not respond; Dixon included. Their opportunity has passed so even if they do call there will be no need to respond or schedule, anything. All we wanted was a 48' long fence to go between us and the neighbor because they have a dilapidated vinyl fence we hate looking at. read more

I wish I could give this company a higher rating but I can't. The owner, Nick, is nice, reasonable price, and the fence turned out ok. However, I hope he reads these Yelp feedbacks to improve his business. Here are the issues I encountered: - Piece of wood not nailed in. Loose so I had to nail it down myself. - Staining/Sealing Fence: Not direct or truthful. Nick told me he/his team could do the staining after they install fence. He gave me the staining price and included it in the total quote, and he was supposed to buy the supplies. After the fence was installed, we had a walk-through with him. He didn't even bring up the fact that he's not going to stain the fence! I had to bring it up to him! He mumbled and said he won't be able to do it. He didn't charge for the staining, but I'd rather pay him to get it done! TERRIBLE!! I chose his company because he said they could do the staining as well! It was such a hassle to find someone else to finish his job. I felt like he was lying so his company could get the project. - Drain pipe got dislocated from a section: Unfortunately, I noticed this some days later and not sooner because it was too high up (more than 15 feet). They probably moved the lower end of the pipe to adjust the new position of the pipe clamp to the new fence, and accidentally dislocated the top pipe portion. I still have to get that fixed. read more

Nick is very professional and has a polite demeanor. Despite being somewhat late to our initial appointment, his estimate was quick and fairly priced. Also, despite being late again on the day of the job, the work performed was done efficiently with good quality. Punctuality aside, the experience was positive with great customer service. Even after I made a small, but troublesome, complaint near the end of the job regarding an end post, Nick and his team were more than willing to go out of their way and promptly fixed the discrepancy. Additionally, Nick is truly an honest man of his word as I accidentally issued him a check for the wrong amount upon completion of the job, which he promised to destroy after receiving a new check. I would definitely do business with Dixon Fence again. read more

Definitely as good as it gets. Nick was fantastic, patient with our desire to use deck screws (as opposed to nails that wear out quicker. Nick was more than amazing with our particularly difficult neighbors, who were so rude, and even went so far as to "rebuild" the gate that Nick had painstakingly built for them. This is the company you want to do business with. I called and left a message requesting a quote and Nick called me back within 5 minutes. He met me that evening and provided a quote that met the needs of my neighbor and I. Nick's price was over $1,500 less than another quote I had received. Nick and his crew were able to start and complete the job in a little more than 2 days, and they started 2 full weeks earlier than scheduled. The work is solid and backed by a 5 year warranty on workmanship AND materials. The higher quote was for 15 years, but that was workmanship only. Dixon Fence will replace boards that split for up to 5 years; I'm pleased with that. You have a choice of materials, and we chose redwood. The work looks terrific and and I know it will last. I'll be calling Dixon Fence for any other fencing needs, you should too. read more

This guy is amazing! He was a little bit more expensive than our other quote, but our neighbors had used him before so we were fine going with him - it was such a great choice! Our fence is beautiful! He completed a 77 foot fence with two 10 foot sections each with a gate in just one day! It is beautiful and sturdy. He poured the concrete correctly so the water runs off and doesn't sit in the wood (good quality) and our gate is amazing! It is super strong and he put on this fancy latch that you can open from inside and outside. I'm incredibly impressed. He came all the way out to Vacaville to do this. Dixon fence is great. We had a large chain link fence installed in the front of our home with two chain link Gates. Nick showed up when he said, very friendly and professional. We had got tons of bids from different companies and Nick beat them by a lot with out even knowing our other estimates. We need to have more fence work done around our home and will only use Dixon fence from now on. read more

Dixon fence company is the best. Not only did Nick come in with the lowest bid but he replaced our 85 feet of fence in less than one day. He did very high quality work, used metal posts sunk into concrete, 3 rails of pressure treated wood 2 x 4's, 6" redwood slats, and hauled off all the old fence debris. This fence will out live me. Nick came out to give me a quote on two of my properties. Everything seemed well enough and he appears to be a nice guy. He came out and took his measurements. After everything was said and done, I told him that we would like for all the fence work to be permitted since they were going to be over 8ft. He said "yeah sure no problem". A few days later he called me and asked if I was sure if wanted it permitted and if we kept the fence 6ft and under we wouldn't need permits. I strongly urged for an 8ft fence since one of the properties is in a rough neighborhood. He said he would get back to me the next day then nothing. I called, texted and left numerous emails but no response. No attempt at communication or anything after I said that I needed the fence permitted... Kinda sketchy. read more

Can't trust these guys, supposed to have an estimate done today, no phone call, no show, WTF

When you have to find a contractor for things that you need done, it can be a nightmare. You only hope that you find that diamond in the rough, I did find that diamond in Dixon Fence Co. I got 3 bids but sometimes you have to go with your heart and i'm happy I did. So I needed a new fence, so I called Dixon Fence Company and Nick the owner came to my house and walked around with me. He listen to all my concerns and told me what I needed to do so he can get to my fence, like cut back my plants. So the morning that they started he called me to let me know who was coming over and that he needed to do something and would be here at 11:00 am and the guys showed up at 8:00 in the morning on time and started the job. They removed the fence so fast. Then a big truck came with all the redwood boards they were beautiful every piece. You wouldn't believe how fast they put up this fence in one day and a awesome gate. NOTHING was pre-made everything was made by hand. They have every tool you needed to break concrete make the holes for the poles, nail gun and everything else they needed. They were so professional. They were done in one day everything was perfect. I have to say that website like YELP or others can help you to read the reviews of others opinions good or bad. Nick came out when schedule and gave us an estimate that was better then several others we had received. We asked a lot of questions because the fence was along the side of a preschool play area. He answered all our questions and made several suggestions which we accepted. We had a tight schedule because we had to get all the work done during spring break when the kids were off. We wanted black chainlink fence along with 4 10 ft shade poles and 2 gates. Tuesday AM he came with all the material and tools to start the work. He and his team worked fast and safely asking questions as needed and completed the work by noon on Thursday. Nick is great to work with and I would recommend him to anyone.
