Maybe a good place when you are dying of hunger and nobody else is open but after trying their family meal for Wednesday Lunch we won't be ordering again. We had Kadhi pakoda, dal makhani and kofta curry as our 3 veg sides that came with Rice and tava Roti, raita and Kheer for the dessert. Raita Had no cucumber or tomato!!! A bit out of the way in the Kentlands. Great $10 lunch buffet with all you can eat naan regular and garlic. Comes toasted and there isn't another option. Butter chicken is a staple on the buffet and it does have a heavy tomato sauce flavor. Good mix of spicy and mild entrees with plenty of basmati rice and a chopped salad option. Yes, the thali was excellent (particularly the goat), but I'll be back for the biryani. This is nothing like the usual biryani that are a plate of rice pilaf, maybe dry, maybe not, with a few pieces of meat placed in two rows across the top. This biryani (chicken. next time we'll try the goat) was served in the small clay pot in which it was cooked in the tandoor. I was a little disconcerted when I opened the lid that had been sealed to the pot with dough that kept everything moist and I saw nothing but white rice, but not for long. I stirred it up a little, and low and behold there was so much stewy yuminess. Well, I've never had ANYTHING that tasted anything like it, or anything really more delicious. I've been meaning to try Diya since they've opened and since there is a Groupon for it now, I thought it was the perfect time. We arrived around 6pm on a Sunday for dinner and the place was relatively empty for the size of the restaurant. We decided to order the butter chicken (which is my favorite and go to dish any time I'm eating Indian food) and the lamb roganjosh. To my surprise, I enjoyed the lamb dish a lot more than the butter chicken. It had a spice kick to it whereas the butter chicken was not spicy at all and tasted a lot more tomato-y compared to butter chicken I've had in the past. I definitely have had better around this area. But the chicken and the lamb were both soft and easy to eat. Each dish came with rice and a huge piece of buttered naan. I ordered from this place via Uber Eats on a weekday. They were one of few spots still open passed 9pm, therefore I decided to try this place out. I ordered the Chicken Tikka, Butter chicken and garlic naan. The chicken tikka was well marinated and came with some house spices. The butter chicken tasted a little different to other butter chickens I tasted before. I stopped in with my boyfriend around 3pm on a saturday for a late lunch, and the restaurant was empty except for another patron. We were seated right away, and decided to order off menu rather than going for the buffet. We got the raj kachori for our appetizer, which was served cold and was good, although not quite what I was expecting from the menu description. We got a diet coke to share, and it was a bit flat, but that wasn't a big deal. I got the veggie thali and he got the non-veg thali, and we both enjoyed everything that included. The spinach paneer and chickpea dish were spiced very differently from how i've had the dish before - they had a lighter taste. The chickpeas seemed to have some kind of warming spices, like cinnamon or nutmeg. But the lentil dal was by far the best. Overall, the meal was good. The naan had a generous amount of butter, as did the rice, and there wasn't a bad dish among anything we had. The only thing about the meal that left a bad taste in our mouths at the end was the fact that we asked for the rest of our meal to be boxed up for us to take home (I would assume that this is standard practice), and it never came. New Indian food place in Kentlands (kinda sits by itself near condos behind shopping center) which I think used to be Famous Daves, maybe? Anyways, I thought hey a place in Kentlands that is NOT the overpriced Tandoori Nights and equal to Bukhara in Traville for taste and quality. Initially, you walk in and it's pretty big. Nicely decorated and the staff are willing to please and nice. We sat in booth in the back and I couldn't help notice the antler lights in the ceiling. Cool, I guess but not sure if that was left over from last restaurant or not. Still overall, very nice looking setup. Looking at the menu, everything looked really good. And why not? My friend googled one of the dishes and the pic they used on the menu came up but on another site. So they kinda"lifted" the pic and borrowed it for their stuff. Eh, kinda shady but I'll let it pass if the food was good. ;) We decided to order bunch of different food so we can share and taste everything. So we ordered the mini samosas, Goat Korma, Non Veggie Thali, Lahori Fish, Hakka Noodles, and Chicken Tikki (6 pieces). Prices were a lot more reasonable than Tandoori Nights and comparable to Hot Breads. Here's my breakdown on what we ordered below: Samosas - served 4 mini samosas. These were pretty good, but bite size samosas means there's a lot less filling and the filling to fried outside ratio was off. Not enough filling. Overall, taste was good but shouldn't be mini size. Non Veggie Thali - sampling of 2 non veggie dishes and 1 veggie dish. Keep in mind this is preselected so you need to ask them what the dishes are. We had some lamb, buttered chicken, some chick peas dish, a sweet dessert, rice and naan bread. Chicken was dry, good flavor but nothing too special. Lamb was also ok. The theme so far is that everything is not bad or great, just ok. Lahori Fish - they were raving that the battered fish is the favorite item and people love it. Yes, they were right. So I lied, this dish was great actually! A big battered Indian style fish and chip without the chip! Must order if you're here. Hakka Noodles - they have a small Indo Chinese section that we wanted to try, so why not the Hakka Noodles? Noodles were super soft and mushy and the taste was pretty decent. Was expecting better but was again...just ok. Chicken Tikka - 6-7 pieces of small chicken for $8. Definitely not worth it, unless it was amazing! And yet you know what I'm gonna say, all together now, "just ok!" So that wraps up this episode of Indian eats. What did we learn? We ordered a vegetarian thali for to go. The food is one of the worst we have had in ages. Can't believe such badly tasting food can even be served in restaurants. We ordered malai kofta (and kofta looked days old!) and paneer butter Masala (with some terrible tasting tomato paste) along with naans (supposedly butter naans but hard as rock). Needless to say it wasn't edible and we had to throw them all away. Excellent Indian food. So tasty! Chicken Vindaloo was excellent - spicy, both flavorful and hot, and perfectly seasoned. And how, oh how, do you make just plain rice so dang delicious?!?? Wow. So great. The garlic naan wasn't what I was expecting, but I still used all of it to wipe up every drop of the sauce. The service was wonderful. Even though they forgot to ask for our drink order, they made up for it in every other way. Quick, friendly, and respectful. Maybe THE worst Indian food I've ever tried. Diya is located right behind our building so we thought we would order take out from there and give it a try since it's so convenient. We ordered the Lamb Vindaloo and Chicken Biryani. The lamb vindaloo was super greasy and lacked any flavor, there was barely any lamb in there...all sauce. The chicken biryani didn't even look like biryani. So tasteless, it looked like they just mixed plain chicken and rice together. I can imagine that this would be a nice space to host a party - they are a bit secluded from the rest of kentlands and have a separate room available for parties. Their menu includes a variety of chaat (snacky?) options which is also fun at a party. The problem is that I wasn't particularly impressed with the quality of the food here. It was all fine, but a bit bland. With the exception of the fresh, hot naan, nothing else really stood out. My favorite of all the dishes we tried during the lunch buffet was the goat curry. But, I found myself chomping down green chilies with my meal to increase the heat/flavor of the dishes (which is not something I generally do a lot of of). Great place! We came with a family of 4 to have dinner because we were tired of eating at home. I got the non veg Tali, which had butter chicken, lamb masala, kheer, rice, raita, papper and naan. Portions were good and were full of flavor! My parents got the Chicken Katti roll and the veg Tali, the chicken Katti roll was spicy and tasted amazing with all the fillings. The veg Tali was great! My sister got the plain dosa, which was nice and crispy with a perfectly seasoned sambar on the side with coconut chutney. My friend took me to Diya Bistro located in Ashburn for lunch. Once I entered I was greeted by smiling faces. I am a true foodie and I can say with certainty that service after COVID has declined dramatically in many restaurants. I felt welcomed at Diya's and the service was impeccable. Now for the food....what can I say other than my tummy was happy! I ordered the Sarson Ka Saag, Chole Bhature, and Papri Chaat. Let me start with the Sarson Ka Saag garnished with fresh ginger that was creamy, saucy, and simply addictive. I even took one order home and my mom, who is the pickiest Indian lady, loved it! The chole had the right amount of spices and the consistency of the curry was perfect! The bhature was made bite size so it stayed fresh, soft, and fluffy which is quite different in other Indian restaurants that serve one big size of bread and once you break it, it loses its texture. The icing on the cake was the Papri Chaat, oh my, that was perfect! The papri was nice, thin, and crispy which stayed the same even in the yogurt and chutneys! Its not really a surprise that it was fairly empty at dinner since I don't think people know it exists. The interior is rather nondescript, but the service was attentive throughout.
