We've been looking for a good Indian restaurant close to Centreville but everything we've seen so far had mixed reviews. Mehak had a couple of mixed reviews too, but mainly about takeout orders. In my opinion, you can't really rate a restaurant fairly with takeouts. That being said, we went ahead and tried Mehak and we're so glad we did. The gobi manchurian was not on the menu for some reason, but definitely ask for it! It's really good - very crispy, very flavorful, and not too spicy. The mango lassi was one of the best we've ever had. It was creamy and not tart at all. It was very refreshing. We were debating between the Kadai Goat and the Goat Rogan Josh. We decided on the Rogan Josh but I don't think I could've gone wrong either way. It was really tender and very tasty. We also got the the Paneer Mekhani and it was also delicious. The Garlic Naan was very fresh and perfect for cleaning up your plate of the delicious sauces. The owner and the staff were very nice and they kept checking on us to make sure everything was ok. They did give us bottled water but I felt a little bad for asking for another one. I'm pretty sure they would've given me another if I asked. That was just me. Solid Indian food here. We've been coming here over the years mostly for take out. Since my last review, they renovated the interior and looks much more warm and inviting. While we were there, it was obvious that a bulk of their business is take out. Plenty of people came in to pick up their orders. One of my biggest gripes of late with their take out has been the portion size. It is noticeably smaller than other places. So when we sat down to eat, I was pleased to know that we could get more rice. We had 3 bowls of rice. But the nicest part was we didn't even have to ask. The guy asked us if we wanted more rice...3 times! I think I may have to eat there more often. read more

Such an amazing experience here. Food was fresh and tasted great! We tried kadhai chicken, malai kofta, butter paneer masala, garlic naan, tandoori naan. Naan were exactly how like them, fresh baked, thin and not thick. Usually most place make malai kofta sweet which overpowers other flavors and the kofta itself, at Mehak it was perfect just right amount of sweetness and spice in the gravy. We recently got carry out here and it was really very good. The food was amazing and liked it more than the Indian restaurant we had been using for carryout. Their naan was nice and thin just the way I liked it. I like my naan a little crisp so stuck it in the air fryer for a few seconds and it was perfect! Three of the entrées came in small containers and only one came in a normal size container, the normal size that you get from most restaurants. And I only got one order of naan where I expected to have naan with my meal plus the extra order that I requested. They gave me a whole lot of white rice which most people don't eat these days. One of the best spots in the Stone Ridge/South Riding area. Food was delicious, and portions were generous for the price. Many Indian places are very conservative with portions, but not Mehak. For about $50 we ordered 3 entrees and a side of naan, which made up about 6 meals for my family. The interior is very plain, and frankly almost dingy. But when you're getting carryout that is not an issue at all. The man at the register was friendly and I was in and out in a minute. Butter Chicken - was what you'd expect. Very sweet and hit the spot. Was maybe 80% sauce and 20% chicken. Kadhi Pakora - had never had this before, so we wanted to try it. Basically Indian version of dumplings in a yogurt sauce. Personally didn't enjoy it, but my family found it to be delicious. Vegetable Korma - again, what you'd expect. Good selection of vegetables and a nice smooth sauce. For some reason there seemed to be some broccoli in there, which I had never seen at an Indian restaurant before, but it was still good. Garlic Naan - $3.50 for a large piece of naan. Very good deal. Was light, fluffy, and full of garlic flavor. If you live in South Riding, this place is way too convenient AND delicious to not try. read more

This was hit or miss. The korma was excellent with nice flavor and tender chicken. The butter chicken was tomato soupish and that chicken was dry. The naan was good and the service was excellent. They had some Indian beers which I thought was cool and rare for an Indian place to have alcohol. The vegetarian dishes were generally good. The dal makhani and tiki masala were both decent. We have usually had good food from Mehak, but the last time we ordered take-out, the lamb kadai had very little lamb and the quality of the pieces was awful. Likewise the chicken do pyaza had little chicken. The taste is usually fine at Mehak, but this is not elevated food. Fantastic experience. Great food and great service. We tried butter chicken, lamb saag, another chicken dish, bread basket and butter chicken. The tandoori chicken was so tender and the green sauce was delicious, minty and jalapeños. The lamb was very tender. All dishes had a good amount of meat with the sauce except the butter chicken but it was really tasty. Not over salted food. Very efficient. The only minuses were bottled water and the atmosphere is a little dated and dark, like a very old diner but we went for a family meal so we weren't looking for atmosphere anyway. This may be the best basic Indian food I've had in NOVA. I'd go back. read more

This place is tucked behind a plaza in the suburbs, and it's been here for years though I haven't heard of it from anyone till recently. It started with trying their samosas, and those were incredible - generously spiced, well-made samosas. I decided to go in person and dine in. It was not crowded on a weekday evening, though it was evident they have a reliable stream of pickup and/or delivery orders. I went classic and got butter chicken, and my dining companion got chicken biryani. We got samosas and garlic and butter naan as well. The food was wonderful, very high quality, perhaps the best biryani I've ever had. The portion size of the biryani was so impressive, though I thought my butter chicken was modestly sized. The complimentary papadam was a pleasant surprise, my first time having it and I liked it a lot. We asked if they had a dessert we like but coupe only describe. They were not sure but gave us a generous sample, and yes, it was the carrot halwa, and it was delicious. I can't wait to come back and frequent this lovely establishment. read more

Great Indian food in the neighborhood. Malai koftha is delicious and soft... great with garlic naan. Aloo tikki is killer as well. They add all the sauces including mint chutney and tamarind chutney. We ordered Baingan Bartha and Vegetable Korma. The vegetables in the korma were not cut very well and still quite large. The flavor was decent but nothing to write home about. Our party of three were in South Riding and were hungry. We found this Indian restaurant near where we were and decided to give it a try, since we all enjoy Indian food anyway. I'm so glad we did. Each of us ordered a different lamb dish - Lamb Korma, Lamb Tikka Masala, and Lamb Rogan Josh. My favorite was the Lamb Korma. Its creamy texture left a rich aftertaste that goes so well with the soft garlic naan. The yogurt in the Lamb Rogan Josh helps to balance the spices so it actually feels light without sacrificing the aroma of the spices. The Lamb Tikka Masala is good if you prefer something a little sour from the tomatoes. If you've had any type of Tikka Masala, you know what I mean. All in all, we really enjoyed our dinner at Mehak. The reason I took away 1 star is because they serve water in plastic disposal bottles. I try to be mindful of the environment and do my best to avoid single-use plastic items. I was looking for a new Indian restaurant to try and I ordered delivery from Mehak. I ordered Chicken Tikka Masala ($15.99), mango lassi ($2.99), & butter naan ($2.99). I requested the tikka to be mild and they fulfilled that request. However, I didn't receive my lassi (Uber Eats refunded me for it), but it really would have rounded out the meal. The chicken tikka was good, but not great. I've had better and I've definitely had worse. The chicken itself was moist and tender, but the sauce had a little too much cream and not enough salt, pepper, etc. You could see the skewer holes for the chicken (yum!) and there were peppers/onions that were mixed in the sauce which were good to eat with the rice. The container of tikka for $15.99 was too small to justify the price. At least there were quite a bit of pieces of chicken and I was full when I finished my food. But, it's not really shareable. It came with a sizeable container of rice, which I appreciated. There's nothing worse than not enough rice with your food. The rice was fluffy and perfect. The naan was off though. It was really thick, tasted like flour, and lacked flavor. It kind of tasted like a thick tortilla? I've heard this place is super good so maybe I'll give it another try. read more

Came here two times in one week. Both times, we came during the lunch buffet. This place is a no frills, good food place. There is minimal décor, with basically some booths, tables, and a TV playing music videos from India. The buffet is located in the back of the restaurant and cost about $9.99 for lunch buffet on weekdays. The naan is so fresh and crispy. Tasted soooo good with the butter chicken. What makes this place great? The food options rotate. When we came on a Monday, one of the dishes that they had was a sausage. I'm not a huge fan of sausage, but it was good. Then when we came on Wednesday or Thursday, the sausage dish was now some sort of tiki chicken dish, which I really loved. They had butter chicken and paneer and some other popular dishes on both days, but I like how they changed things up. It gives it variety. Speaking about having a variety of dishes, the first day we were there, the was a couple who arrived with their daughter and their daughter apparently likes some sort of 'carrot' dish or dessert. The child was a little bit disappointed that they didn't have that dish that day. The owner asked if everything was okay and the family just briefly mentioned that their daughter was looking for the carrot dish. The owner said, "no problem, we will make it" and the couple said something like, "no no, it's okay" and the owner basically insisted and said it was no big deal. Now that is what I call customer service!!! So glad this place is so close by. Now we don't have to drive far for some really good Indian food :) read more

I ordered takeout from here to itch a craving, and I wasn't at all disappointed. Mehak offers a great variety, but since I'm unfamiliar, I went with a simple butter chicken. The chicken melts in your mouth and served in such a flavorful and comforting sauce, and it comes with a generous amount of rice and naan (if you order it alongside). For such a small location, they pack big flavor into their dishes. Since this location is so close to a major road, I make it a treat to myself sometimes to stop by and get the same butter chicken. Soon I'll try more, and I can rest easy knowing it's going to be cooked with authenticity and love. read more

Ate lunch there today, and it was delicious. The Shahi Paneer was creamy and delicately spiced, with lots of chunks of paneer - very satisfying. My salt lassi was thick and rich. And don't get me started about the gulab jamuns... They were hands down the best I've ever eaten, and I've eaten them many times in many restaurants. They were delicate, soft ,and spongy all the way through. They looked like other gulab jamuns from the outside, but they melted in my mouth. The head chef, Kuldip (I presume he is also the owner), told me everything at Mehak is prepared fresh in their kitchen, including the gulab jamuns. No items are outsourced. We have only ever gotten our food to-go but the portions are good for the price and the entrees are always tasty, albeit a little oily. It's not The Best Indian food I've ever had but it sure does the job.
