Our dance floor was packed and everyone was up on their feet thanks to him. His announcing was perfect, the introductions were seamless and flawless. He was able to time our intro song perfectly between 5 sets of bridesmaids and groomsmen and us. At the time of our wedding we didn't realize it but after watching another wedding intro and how their song looped terribly, we realized how much of a genius Allen is. He nailed all of the name pronunciations and made sure that all of our guests knew what was happening as far as the 1st dance, father/daughter and mother/dances. He also has custom LED lights we rented from him that were matched perfectly to our wedding colors. His lights matched our tones and theme beautifully and it really pumped up the dance floor and our venue. Your DJ is as important as your photographer and even the wedding planner. When I first started looking for a dj for our wedding, I was seriously surprised by the lack of communication from the people I had reached out to. Then I found DJ A-Dub! He was always right on top of responding to my emails and calls, and I knew that this would be indicative of his work ethic on our big day. My wife and I had our Wedding DJ all lined up, then all of a sudden he bails! Allen was referred to us by a friend and he absolutely KILLED IT!! I was referred to Allen through a friend, as he had DJed her wedding in the past year. Not only is he very professional, but he is super friendly and definitely knows his music! We met over a month before the wedding at the venue to discuss details and what we were looking for in a DJ. STILL THE BEST. I first used Allen at my college graduation party in 2004, and11 years later I am still a satisifed customer. As promised in my prior review, I hired Allen again. I recently had a coed baby shower with over 200 guests. I decided a wanted to have a party at a hotel, rather than a traditional baby shower at my home. I simply emailed Allen the concept of the shower, and provided him with a few songs I wanted played. As usual, Allen worked his magic and he exceeded all of my expectations. In addition to acting as emcee, he also facilitated several of the games, and played fantastic music throughout the event. Not only is he amazing at what he does, he is a true joy to work with. We just had DJ A-Dub (aka Allen) DJ and MC our wedding. And one word sums it up "Wow!" The "Get to the Point" Review: Allen was not only an amazing MC and played all my "must play" songs, he also went beyond the typical DJ duties and made sure our event was on schedule and successful. Long & Detailed Review: First off, finding a DJ was not as easy as I thought. There are many amateurs and many who are trying to rip you off. Very few have references, and even fewer have websites. When it came down to actually contacting various DJs, my fiancé gave me a list of 3 DJ's and an even longer list of questions (about 20) to ask each of them. I decided to check Allen's website, and seriously, about 90% of my questions were answered. He had samples of his events that showed his MC style, how he mixes, his set-up, and so on. At that point, I realized: This guy has his sh*t together! After talking to him for a few minutes, I knew this was it. He was extremely polite, super friendly, and even met with us that weekend to answer our questions and concerns. We made our deposit (which was extremely reasonable for a budget friendly bride like me) and Allen even accommodated my main/preferred form of communication: emails. And Allen never wasted time or had me waiting for a response. I even emailed him at 3 am the day of our wedding with my agenda (yes I'm a procrastinator, and No I don't suggest this!) and he responded at 7:30am with a confirmation! (again I don't recommend or suggest this!) As for the actual event, Allen was on top of EVERYTHING!! Example: When it came time for the toast, somehow our sweetheart table didn't get any champagne (friends and family were in charge). So when the maid of honor did her toast, my husband and I had to smile and nod our heads to everyone. Before calling up the best man for his toast, we saw Allen head to bar, and quickly return with two cups of champagne. He then immediately called the best man for his toast. Although "how detailed oriented are you?" was not on my list of questions to ask, I am so, so glad that we picked someone like Allen who went beyond and above their duty of being a DJ. Lastly, nothing beats his voice and the way he says things to the wedding guests. He got people out of their seats and onto the dance floor. He called the tables for the buffet line in a timely manner and order. And I will never, ever forget the way he introduced our parents, the wedding party, and the way he introduced my husband and I as we walked into the hall. Where do I even begin to summarize how awesome Allen is! Our 1920's theme wedding at the Oviatt Penthouse was a little bit different, given that I was pretty set on having a diverse playlist. We wanted to start with big band / old school jazz that fit the period for the cocktail hour and pre-ceremony, then move into neo-soul, old school hip hip, reggae for my Guyanese husband, r&b etc. We were all over the place and needed it to flow. I'm originally from Los Angeles, now residing in Chicago so we had to rely on SKYPE and Facetime to meet. We talked to a few other DJ's before finding Allen but wasn't getting the right vibes. I stumbled on Allen's website through a random google search. I was impressed that he actually had legit DJ mixes because very few have samples of their work. After our consultation, me and my husband were sold. Allen was super responsive and on top of gathering information and touching base consistently. He was professional and arrived well in advance to set up. Oviatt has a lot of rules....like a ton. Insurance requirements, mandatory walk through 60 days...all annoying but Allen was so pleasant and on top of it all. We had a few changes on the fly the day of and a little behind schedule because people don't know how to get to places ON TIME. Allen adapted with ease and switched up as needed. He was a great MC and kept the party going to the very end (even Grandma stayed all night!). Hands down, best DJ at any wedding I've attended, and I'm not just saying that because it was my own.
