During Prohibition, Townhouse secretly operated the space located underneath a grocery store that served illegal hooch smuggled from the former Abbot Kinney Pier through underground tunnels. Today, the hooch is done, replaced instead with fancy-pants handcrafted cocktails, as well as live entertainment including local bands, comedy, jazz and vaudeville acts.

My friend offered to drive, since she has a newer car.. Well, a friend of mine and I decided to go see her live last night and we are both glad that we did! She was FANTASTIC! Can't comment about the food, because we had both eaten before we went. However, we both got drinks. I got a small Espresso Martini(made to perfection)! She got a beer and we both got 2 bottled waters and Sprite. We were sitting not too far away from the stage and the sound of the microphone and overall the system was great! No complaints. They hold many different events from comedy to concerts. You can even dance. They have a decent dance floor, and the venue itself was fairly large, with bar tables and chairs. It was somewhat crowded, but we were not bothered with that. Customer service hit the mark. Tickets were $41.00 & up. Venue was nice, clean, including restrooms and we parked outside on the street. I believe they also have their own parking.One other thing that I should mention, it gives you that old school vibe that I love. Would highly recommend this venue and I will definitely return if and when anyone that I know and like has a gig. Was our 1st time, and definitely will NOT be the last. The structure is brick, formerly some factory. The exposed brick walls contrast with the eco-friendly bamboo flooring. Speakers and video screens are strategically placed along the walls. For events such as a live script read of a play, they put up rows of folding chairs so the room can seat about 100 or 150 people. This entertainment space is very mellow and quiet as a church mouse. All the hustle and bustle of Abbey Kinney seems miles away. Valet parking was a welcome surprise as street parking is at a premium. On the wall is a Microsoft Surface Hub, a seven or eight foot wide Surface computer. Very few were made and it must be some sort of prototype. Very cool to play with. The front of the property has an outdoor patio which gets decked out with tables, chairs, and a bar when a function is held there. We also ordered the bottomless mimosas and only got through 2 bottles because it took them 20 minutes to bring out the first one and another 15 to bring out the second one when it was asked for. And on top of that, they act like they're doing YOU a favor by bringing out the food & drinks that YOU paid for. I have never written a negative review before but this experience was awful; just a waste of money &, what should have been, a good time.
