I've been searching for an authentic head spa experience closer to home for ages. Ever since my…read morefirst hair wash in Vietnam, I was bummed that I couldn't find anything comparable in the States. While there's been a recent boom in Chinese and Thai herbal washes, the closest 'real' spot used to be in Flushing--until I found Thy Hair Salon. They are a fantastic full-service salon (haircuts, color, makeup, you name it), but they've recently added the traditional Vietnamese hair wash to their menu. It literally felt like I'd been transported back to Vietnam! The staff is incredibly kind and the service is a total 10/10. They use traditional ginseng and herbs for the steaming process, and honestly, the scent is much more pleasant and refreshing than the versions I've tried at other spots. I walked out feeling like a brand-new person. If you're looking for an authentic, relaxing escape, this is it!

I started coming to HC a couple of years ago because I followed Fernando from Dellaria's on Summer…read moreStreet. Let me tell you about Fernando (and myself. Because it's my review). I've been going to him since 2007 when I called up D's and asked for someone who specializes in curly hair. I have fine curly hair, but a lot of it. It frizzes easily especially when it's humid outside. I have been growing it out for a few years and I just needed a better cut. Fernando knew exactly what to do with my hair. He chopped it off like I asked, and I've never looked back. Not only has he made it look good super-short, but we came up with a plan once I decided to grow it out a bit. I've never been one to shy away from risks with my hair, though I never professionally colored it, because I know that it'll just grow back. No ANTM moments here! Fernando just goes with it and he always makes me feel like a million bucks when I walk out. Not to mention, he's the sweetest guy. We've become friends over the years and I love hearing about his family. Not only does he cut and style really well, but I know he wants it to suit me. He'll cut my hair into whatever I want, but he makes suggestions that will work better and I trust him! Fernando and his wife recently took ownership of the shop and to me, that can only be good for business.

I started calling around and right when I called them, they said they could do my hair and even do it once I was off work at 2 pm. The price they quoted was WAY less than what my original braider was charging so already I was feeling good about them. Seeing the five stars on Yelp made me feel even better. I showed up a little after two and two women greeted me and told me to sit down. The owner as I come to find out is an Igbo woman, so I share that in common with her. It made me feel even more comfortable knowing the language they were speaking as well. The lady that did my hair was very quick. The owner helped with burning the ends and they finished within 4 hours which is pretty impressive as I did a bob style, and many other braiders said it wasn't really a style they could do when I called around. I definitely, definitely will come back here to get my hair braided in the future! Thank you ladies!!
