Po's kitchen was one of a few places open in the morning where we could take out some food and bring it back for breakfast. Best thing is it's right next to a donut shop where we can get donuts too! The order is from a window, plates come in a box, and no sit down tables. Food was good, could have been a little more fresh. The noodle Mac salad was the best thing I had, no tuna if anyone was wondering. The side of the day was long rice which wasn't like Hawaiian king rice but more shoyu long rice. My sister said the hash was good. The shrimp tempura was a piece of shrimp tempura fried not long like the kind that come in sushi. The chicken was cold but ok tasting. Wish the sushi had furikake on it. The cone sushi was good, needed a bit more rice packed in it. The spam musubi was good. My sister got the sushi roll but that was filled with dried fish and not my thing. The wait wasn't long so it must be prepared before hand. A definite try to get some food before a long drive to the other side the island.

Edible (mostly) but not very good. Best thing was the mac salad and the rice. Things that should have been hot were room temp, shrimp was fried ages ago and sat around so the coating was squishy and cold instead of crunchy. Very friendly and kind server (owner?) It was fast and interesting but I would not go back.

Formerly Po's Kitchen. Delicious box lunch. They have 3 sizes- small, regular, large. They also offer maki sushi, cone sushi, spam musing, and goteburg. The chicken is tasty, spaghetti Mac salad is just right, Furikake on the 2 musubi, luncheon meat, Teri beef (chewy), and fried noodles. The regular box includes egg and more of the above listed items. Friendly and efficient service! Sorry, I missed photos, we were hungry, LOL.

The lunch box is Kauai's favorite pre-packed and ready to go meal. It's all about convenience and familiar food here. There's nothing weird or surprising in this meal packed in the white box and it's a fun way to try small bites of a lot of different things that you might not order on the regular. Down to the piece of red hot dog, this is 100% local food. The lunch box is a Garden Isle classic, a convenient and portable meal to grab on the way to the airport. Even the Yelp critics here would agree that Po's is definitely better than what you could get at LIH!

Po's Kitchen serves up local style okazuya plates (i.e., Japanese-style delicatessen common in Hawaii). It's so hard to find places like this on other islands as old-school okazuya's close down. I was not disappointed with the "deluxe plate," see photo. It's a walk up and order place, with a takeaway window. I showed up around 12:30. The line was short and my food was ready in minutes. I drove to a nearby park and enjoyed every bite.

After many years away from the island, I finally had a chance to grab a box lunch from a place I'd grab from growing up. Saw that it was new owners. But I'm glad I was able to grab some food. I like this box lunch better than before. Good luck to the new owners. I look forward to visiting again on future trips back home.

Have you ever tried a box lunch in Hawaii? If you haven't or are looking for the bomb.com food, I highly recommend DJ's Box Lunch. You can order items individually, but a regular or deluxe box comes with the standard...chicken, rice, salad, pickled veggies, luncheon meat, hot dog, teri beef, and a side dish...the deluxe comes with fried shrimp. Come hungry because I promise you, after you eat this box, you'll be full! Side note..this is a take out order business only.

Coworker and I came here for something quick for lunch! Service was fast, aunty at the counter was chill and made sure to check if I needed one drink. Food was "broke da mouth" for one box lunch! Everything in the regular was mayjah!! I liked the chicken especially! My coworker got the deluxe with da shrimp! Affordable prices and portions! Kauai as why yessah

This is what I call come sushi! We stopped here because kiddos wanted musubis and aren't fans of 711. Loved that the cone sushi wasn't soggy and was the size of my palm! The auntie at register was very nice as well even though we weren't ordering a bunch of stuff she was still very nice with aloha! We will definitely be back to try their boxes! Customer in front got 4 boxes and everything inside looked freshly cooked (unlike many other okazuya places) and delicious!

This is a very convenient place to grab a lunch for work or school. Variety of choices for your box lunch and a small local store.

Got a box lunch for hiking. Paid about $10 with a drink. Not bad, this lace is pretty close to the airport as well.

Good variety, I like that I didn't have to select what I wanted in my bento and they have the small, medium, and large options. :)

Parking lot in the back was a bit small, but the establishment itself isn't very big. AMBIANCE: As I said, it's a very small place. It can hold maybe about 20-25 people. It's a tight little place with very few tables and a small sushi bar. The dim lights and natural lighting gave it an intimate ambiance. I was seated at the bar and you can watch the chefs assembling my food while being trained at the same time. SERVICE: Our server was phenomenal. I believe his name was PJ. He was quick, attentive, and gave us a good laugh every time he stopped by to check on us. You can see the trainee going through on the job training, but the food still came out in a very timely manner. They were quick and we're happy to answer any questions we had. FOOD: I'm from the Seattle where the fish is extremely fresh and we get some amazing sushi. Also been to Japan a couple times. This was definitely up there for me. Everything was delicious; from the soft shell crab, to the blue fin toro, to the popcorn shrimp. Although I did indulge a little, I believe the chef's choice would be an amazing pick with high value for someone on a budget. Surprisingly, the blue fin toro wasn't my favorite. While it did taste amazing and melted in my mouth, I found the tai snapper to have more dynamic flavor thus marginally beating it out. Also I've never had steak sushi before, but I became a huge fan of the A5 wagyu nigiri and it left me wanting more. Hands down my top 3 picks. OVERALL: I highly recommend trying this place out. I loved the food, the atmosphere, and the service. Its definitely a must visit for me if I were to come back to Kaua'i.

The servers were friendly and attentive! The interior was cute and the windows let in a lot of natural light. Food: - Crazy Scallop Roll (8.5/10): Overall delicious! Each piece was bite-sized and had maybe two chunks of scallop on top. My only complaint was that it was kind of pricey for the portion sizes, but that's probably because of the scallops and that things are expensive in general in Hawaii. I was still hungry after eating this dish! - Panang curry with chicken and white rice (8.5/10): Super yummy! We thought that the curry flavors tasted pretty authentic. We wished we had gotten a bit more rice, as the scoop was pretty small so we had a lot more curry in the end vs. rice. - Mango sticky rice (8/10): I've eaten a lot of mango sticky rice dishes in the past, and this one was pretty average. The mango was a good level of ripe, and the sticky rice had a nice, mildly sweet flavor. Our suggestion would be to pour the coconut sauce over the rice instead of next to it so the flavors soak in!

We went on a Saturday around lunchtime and it wasn't too busy. There is a small parking lot near the restaurant on the left hand side. It was filled when we first got there, but we were luckily able to get a spot. I could see this lot filling up quickly during other meal rush hours, so do take note if you plan on driving. The ordering is done like your typical poke place, you tell the service worker what you would like and there's a small toppings bar at the end before the cashier. There was a small line when we went, and even with the line, it still only took about 5-10 minutes to get our food. There isn't interior seating in the restaurant though, you will have to get your food take out, or just eat in the parking lot. I got the 3 scoops of poke option for $15.25, and I think that this is a pretty solid deal for the variety of fish that you can try out! I think based on my personal experience on Kaua'i, it will be difficult to get food, especially poke at a reasonable price. But for this price, it's probably the best place on the island to get poke without paying $20+ for the same variety. The fish tasted fresh, and I am a fan of the selection of toppings they had. If you are in the Lihue area and looking to try some poke at a reasonable price, I would recommend The Fish Express! There seems to be a decent amount of other interesting looking options on the menu, and if I'm ever in the area again, I would totally give them a try!
