Wow! Am I glad I found this place!! After one of my favorite stylist left from Wild Orchid (the salon I usually go to) to pursue other ventures, I was in a complete loss of where to go. I really wanted to find some place local so, after doing a little Yelp research and after reading such great reviews about this place, I decided they were worth giving a shot. I decided to go to Karen after seeing her name mentioned mostly in the reviews which turns out is the owner. The place is small and hidden off of Main st in Oakley. Secluded and hidden with dark tinted windows, you really would not expect much though, to my surprise I walked in to an extremely chic, well decorated, modern style salon and was immediately greeted by Karen. I was driving by the salon and noticed their front door was open and I immediately slowed down. I had been going back and fourth as to what color to try...blue or purple for peek a boo colors. So since I saw the door open and it being around 5:30pm, I asked if they could take me right then, stylist Melissa said 'sure!'. Yay, I was excited! It was my first time at DK Salon. Sure won't be my last! Love that they are local! I explained to Melissa what I was trying to accomplish with the highlights. We decided to go with the blue highlights since the salon was out of purple color. Great! I love not having too many choices! My hair turned out soooo cool! Its like bold blue near roots and kinda darker blueish purple near ends. I'm growing out my hair from a VERY short A-line cut so I really didn't want Melissa to cut much off. She did what she could to freshen me up. I am very pleased with the results for color, cut, service, and how I was treated. I was also informed as how to take care of my hair now that I had color in it. Both Melissa and Karen were very personable and helpful and very much professional. Prices are reasonable and comparable. Salon was neat and clean. No nasty hair balls laying tucked behind a chair or desk. Plenty of hair products to choose from. Nice selection of magazines to look through while waiting for your color to set. I will be back to DK Salon in the future. read more

My daughters and I LOVE this place! I have 4 teenage daughters and Karen is very sweet and patient, especially with my youngest daughter. Not to mention, she always ROCKS the cut! My youngest is "hair challenged", and we'll leave it at that. But Karen always does a beautiful job and my youngest looks human again. My oldest daughter doesn't have extreme "hair issues", but if the hair cut doesn't reach her expectations...she cries. Needless to say, she is very sensitive about her hair...it's her "crowning glory". Karen is the only stylist she's been to that DOESN'T make her cry. As for me, I've gotten my hair cut in swanky salons on Maiden's Row and Union Square...I've gotten great cuts there...but never really felt pampered or relaxed after leaving. Karen nails the cut every time and I feel refreshed. She is a little pricey for out here, but since I don't have to travel through a tunnel or over a bridge for a great cut, wonderful service, and a relaxing experience...I don't mind the price. read more

Brenae is a saint! I made a tragic mistake with box dye and I dyed my hair a horrible greyish (not on purpose) color. I frantically went in the next day on a referral and not only did she fix my color, she did an amazingly beautiful job, was fun, and the appointment went perfectly. I love Karen. I am very picky about who touches my hair and I let Karen have free reign and EVERY TIME she delivers. I live in SF and travel out just to have Karen do my hair. Aurora books me when I'm in town every other year or so. She's usually the last one I've seen so my hair has grown out with zero shape or I've chopped my bangs myself or done something else probably mortifying to any professional. She's always so sweet and accommodating and gives me exactly what I'm looking for. She never pushes their products at me, and she compliments my natural color saying she hopes I never get it colored - even when I'm already considering it and it would probably be easy to push me into doing it. Always my best interests at heart. I even came in a couple years ago with an awkward lob, no idea what to do with it but I had heard of some obscure technique that could maybe cut down on the helmet, triangle head look. She somehow figured out what I wanted and saved me. Today I came in with AWFUL chopped bangs and horrible scattered layers, and she evened everything out and gave me beautiful shape and body. And if you need any more convincing, the price is unbeatable for such a great haircut. Santa Barbara salons used to charge me anywhere from $60-$80 for a wash and trim (I have no color, no special requests, just flat rate) and this is half that! Thanks Aurora! read more

I needed color and a haircut for a wedding I will attend this weekend. I scheduled with Amity Finney. This was my first time with Amity. Wow, is she good! Following the color, shampoo, cut and blow dry, I felt sort of shocked when she finished styling my hair, and turned me toward the mirror. My hair looked so professional! I have never had such beautiful hair color. I actually had to blink a few times. I know its such a cliché to say that it was a "Cinderella" moment, I am not used to looking in the mirror and thinking, "that looks good" but seriously, my hair was really improved. I don't like my picture taken, I just am not confident. It is what it is, but with this cut and color, if anyone wants to take my picture at the wedding, for the first time in years, I am not going to step out of frame. Amity Finney, at DK Salon. No one has been able to dye my hair with the red shade that I had been looking for until I met Karen. This place is great! Everyone treats you like you've been friends for years and they take their time. Samantha is a good stylist. i explained what I wanted done, and she made it happen. I've been to several other salons, but they made me feel unwelcomed and didn't do the job that I expected them to do. So I have now found my salon, and will continue to come back. Karen has been my stylist for years and I just love her. She does an excellent job with my cut and color every time, and I always do something different than what I previously had. Where do I begin!? Karen has been doing my hair ever since I was a teen around 14 years old, I am now. Not once did I ever leave disappointed, she is a hair GURU. When she was gone for a while, for personal reasons, I was lost! Not one person has ever been able to do my hair as perfect as her, everything from cut to color to keeping it nice and healthy and recommending the perfect products only when I ask for them. I left for a few years and no one seemed to be able to cut, color or style my hair like Karen, so I settled for what I could and pricing always killed my pocket book. I recently returned to the area (Walnut Creek, actually) and heard she was back in the salon and booked an appointment as soon as humanly possible. Not only are her prices on point compared to pricey Walnut Creek, I ALWAYS leave with a smile on my face, money well spent and time to catch up with someone I've known for many many years. I recommend DK Salon to ANYONE in the Bay Area, even if you have to drive a half hour or an hour or even an hour and a half, Karen is worth it. I am so excited to see what magic she makes happen next week at our appointment, I am looking forward to it more than Christmas! After searching around for a hairstylist I called DK salon and asked if they used Olaplex, the girl that answered the phone told me they did and that Karen would call me back to make the appointment. She called me back first thing the next day. And I scheduled an appointment for the same day, that was 2/19. When I went in Karen recognized me as I had been a client of hers at her previous salon a few years back. I had been growing out my hair and had a dark brow to reddish brown like ombre. I showed her pictures of what I wanted which was based on the picture description a blonde baylage, I also showed her a picture ofmyself with bleach blonde hair from a couple years ago. I specifically asked for the Olaplex because I was told if I wanted to go blonde they recommend that to make it blonder and prevent damage. It took about 15 minutes for Karen to apply all the product and my hair is thick. After being under the dryer her assistant took over and washed and toned my hair. When she proceeded to style it I noticed my hair was darker than the color I went in with. It looked nothing like what I had asked her for. Meanwhile Karen kept working with other clients, a total of 3 while u was there. I let her assistant finish and then I went to pay, she said the was an extra charge for the Olaplex and charged a total of $225. I was furious because my hair looked nothing like what I asked for. I didn't want to make a scene in front of the other customers so I paid and called Karen that same night to tell her I was not happy. I spoke with her the next day and she seemed irritated and was l li k e I don't know what you want, and I told her I wanted blonde not darker. I asked her if she thought she could do it and she said yes and set up and appointment for the following Saturday 2/28. Unfortunately had to cancel 2 days prior to the appointment because if a family emergency and I let her know. I texted her to reschedule and she said she would not be available until 3/18. Even though I was unhappy with the color of my hair I waited to give her a second chance. So I went in today for my appointment and I showed her pictures again she had a bit of an attitude and did not talk at am during the process. Again her assistant did the rest. She definitely did blonde but to me that's foil highlights not baylage like old foil highlights from 15 years ago. I decided to buy a dry shampoo suggested by her assistant. Then I go to pay and she adds another $75, for a total of $109. And said that is because It's been to long since the last procedure and she had to use more product. I paid and walked out. I will definitely not be going back. I don't understand why if she didn't do what I requested to begin with and then could not accommodate me sooner she feels I should have to pay more. I am not happy with the service the color and she is ridiculously overpriced. read more

This salon is located in a small shopping center and is not only clean but also very beautiful (the stylists are pretty hot too!). It showcases artwork from a local artist and has make-up and the newest hair products available for purchase. The stylists have you complete a questionaire so they can better serve you and you will find yourself enjoying a relaxing experience and leaving looking more beautiful than you entered. I tried to bleach my hair to blonde and came out with bright orange. I called the salon and asked for an appointment with the first person available hoping I wouldn't have to walk around looking like a clown all week. Brenea was the first person who had an opening. She went over my color options with me and when I decided that I still wanted to go blonde she worked her magic. She toned and highlighted my hair so it looked like it had been professionally done the first time around. She's a great stylist and I'd definitely recommend her.
