Wow! Am I glad I found this place!!…read more After one of my favorite stylist left from Wild Orchid (the salon I usually go to) to pursue other ventures, I was in a complete loss of where to go. I really wanted to find some place local so, after doing a little Yelp research and after reading such great reviews about this place, I decided they were worth giving a shot. I decided to go to Karen after seeing her name mentioned mostly in the reviews which turns out is the owner. The place is small and hidden off of Main st in Oakley. Secluded and hidden with dark tinted windows, you really would not expect much though, to my surprise I walked in to an extremely chic, well decorated, modern style salon and was immediately greeted by Karen. I explained to her what I wanted and she delivered it to perfection and right on point, my hair really looks fabulous! Thanks to Karen, my search for a new stylist has ended!!

Sure won't be my last! Love that they are local! I explained to Melissa what I was trying to accomplish with the highlights. We decided to go with the blue highlights since the salon was out of purple color. Great! I love not having too many choices! My hair turned out soooo cool! Its like bold blue near roots and kinda darker blueish purple near ends. I'm growing out my hair from a VERY short A-line cut so I really didn't want Melissa to cut much off. She did what she could to freshen me up. I am very pleased with the results for color, cut, service, and how I was treated. I was also informed as how to take care of my hair now that I had color in it. Both Melissa and Karen were very personable and helpful and very much professional. Prices are reasonable and comparable. Salon was neat and clean. No nasty hair balls laying tucked behind a chair or desk. Plenty of hair products to choose from. Nice selection of magazines to look through while waiting for your color to set. I will be back to DK Salon in the future.

Although I will be speaking to my experience with Amber specifically, the salon as a whole is truly a wonderful and vibrant experience in itself. Amber is absolutely amazing! To the extent that I live in Los Angeles and drive 5+ hours to specifically sit in Amber's chair. She takes her time and always helps me bring ideas to life in the healthiest way for my hair. Whether its something low maintenance because I am traveling or something new I want to try, she always provides the best insight and gives me a head of hair that I actually look forward to styling (which says a lot because I have a lot of hair). Her blending and balayage is amazing and she never ceases to amaze me with what she can create. I call her my favorite magician! They use the best products and my hair always smells amazing for days after leaving the salon. Be sure to keep an eye out for the extra special things they offer too like a monthly drink, warm infused neck towels, little snacks, and even a book exchange. Don't worry if you forget though, the ladies are always amazing at checking if you need anything. The hospitality of this salon is unlike any other to the extent that I remember walking in and feeling so touched that other stylists (especially Jen) took the time to greet me compared to other salons i have been to where no one really talks to you if you arent their client. You can tell and appreciate how much time and effort has gone into making this salon feel like an experience. Mika really listened, she managed to get my hair healthy and bouncy while keeping the perfect length just past my shoulders. My fingers slide through it with total ease now! I specifically asked for substantial, long wispy bangs that would look great left down even when the rest of my hair is in a clip, and she nailed the execution. She didn't just cut my hair; she took the time to teach me how to curl it myself and recommended products that actually work for my texture. I had to wait a year before I could get my hair long enough to cut. Also, the cash only policy should be advertised. Thank God I had cash, but I had to go into Safeway to pull it out with a transaction fee. I think this practice is an avoid income tax. Shady.

I also realized that I wasn't shown the back of my hair with a mirror before leaving the salon. Normally this step helps the client confirm that the haircut looks correct before leaving. She was a nice person to talk but because of this cutting experience, I don't feel comfortable returning for a correction.
