Went for brunch after trolling the site for a reservation for a while, and so happy I went! It is one of the pricier all-you-can-drink/eat spots in the DMV, but it was totally worth it. Some of the best food AND drinks for an all-you-can-eat/drink I've had to date! I find places either skimp on food and/or drink quality when there is unlimited anything, but they definitely didn't here! Highly recommend and would go back in a heartbeat! read more

My daughter treated me to a Chef's Table event for Mother's Day weekend at dLena and it was epic. Having the Chef cook just for us was a treat I shall never forget. The food was amazing. all eight courses, as well as the wines they paired it with. Being so close to the kitchen, we were able to see the professional way the kitchen and service staff work. which is also a testament to Chef Sandoval. We will return as often as possible to enjoy their dinner menu. read more

Long time yelper, first time reviewer (that's a lie but just go along with it). Every so often I come across a dish that makes me question every meal I had before it (no offense to my mom but she should really step her game up). Last night, every single dish made me have that experience. Every. Single. DISH. The Corn Empanadas (yes, corn) almost made me go vegan, but then the Pork Belly (which im convinced was made by the hands of God) snapped me out of it. I'm not going to talk about the deluge (yep, deluge) of flavors and the way the pork belly melts as soon as your fork hits it because I don't know if i could handle the flashbacks without making another trip there (im lying, I already booked a brunch reservation because dinner was that damn good). We had the Tomahawk Steak, carrots, and grilled avocado as well but I cant go on writing about the food because I'm actually getting sad the meal is over now. Also our server MacKenzie was EVERYTHING. Attentive, quick, all her recommendations were on point AND she had to deal with me which is a practice in patience. This is getting long so stop reading and book the reservation because you deserve nice things too read more

I will say that that place has a beautiful vibe and aesthetic going on. My sister and I went inside for drinks and dessert for my birthday before I had dinner else where and I was really disappointed in the dessert. The Creme brûlée was like a centimeter in thickness, it was a complete joke, it was just like eating just the toasted top layer, I've never been served such small amount of creme brûlée. The drinks were not my fav even though the presentation of everything was nice. I do want to give this place another chance and order a whole meal next time because I really do want to like it because of how pretty it is inside. read more

Very unorganized and unprofessional staff. The manager seems like they don't know what's going on. It's cute in there. Didn't stay for the food due to the bad service. Also their last seating for brunch is 1:45 according to the manager but the website says 2:00pm. Got there at 2 for my BRUNCH RESERVATION and told this then but not before that. Why let me make a brunch reservation for 2pm just to seat me and tell me I can't order brunch? Weird. No accommodation was given to fix a miscommunication on their end. The manager said it wasn't that they could not accommodate but that they wouldn't. They should've honored unlimited brunch for us. read more

Gorgeous restaurant...the overall experience was good; as in, not Very Good or Outstanding. Beware: the cocktails have way too much ice. If you are sipping while talking, your drink quickly becomes water due to the fast melting, over abundance of ice cubes. I enjoyed the corn empanadas the most...very good. The branzino was good too. The seafood enchiladas were just okay and the guacamole was average. The biggest reason for my 3-star rating is the service. When I ordered my second drink, I asked for salt. It was brought to me without salt and when I said something, the server said "oh" and walked off. Lastly, what was most annoying is how various staff (other than our server) hover around watching to see if they can refill your water and take plates. They were trying to take plates while we were still working on them. It was distracting and borderline rude. I get they may be going for attentiveness but it's overboard. A little too many interruptions for me. read more

We had a time last night! If you want an amazing dining experience Dlena is the place to go. 1st and foremost kudos to our waitress who anticipated Our every need And executed excellent customer service. The Ambiance of this then you provides the perfect setting for an upscale girls night out or date night with someone special. I started with the Ceviche Amarillo which was fresh and full of citrus flavor bringing out the best parts of the yellowtail fish. The plantain chips, homemade tortilla and chips were the perfect addition and contrast and flavor with the ceviche. Of course it wouldn't be a girls night out without trying a drink. The Mercado was just what I needed. I love how they melded the passion fruit and hint of spice in the drink. It paired perfectly with my ceviche. For the main course I have the Tomahawk Steak. Be prepared for a full-on show. They prepare the steak in front of you with fresh herbs and bone marrow. I ordered for a medium cook which was done to perfection. I like that they provide three different types of salt and allow for you to add to your liking. I try three of their side dishes, the broccolini, the heirloom carrots, and Fire Grilled baked potato. All were excellent and complimented the steak to perfection. If you are vegetarian I would just go for the sides. Each had their own flavor profile and were hard enough portion that you would leave more than satisfied. To complete my meal I had the best creme brulee to date. And of course it comes with a shot of liquor and a few flames. I really appreciated there isn't pressure to rush through your meal, watch the clock like some other restaurants, and have time to enjoy your meal. If you're able to lock in a reservation run, don't walk, definitely worthwhile. read more

This restaurant has been on my bucket list since I moved to the city. We went there on Friday and sat at the bar. We were unable to get reservations, so we decided to go as soon as the restaurant opens at 5 PM in order to ensure we could get bar seats. The food was incredible, everything we had was 10/10. For the portion size, I would say that the food is slightly overpriced. The Seviche was incredibly small portioned, but very tasty. The most disappointing part of the entire experience were the drinks. Between myself, and my friend, we had three drinks each. All of them were equally as awful. The house margarita was a shameful excuse for a margarita. The prickly pear margarita tasted like Hawaiian punch and was colored red. I'm not sure what pear is colored red? Not only that, but there were only about five different cocktails to choose from. The drink menu is incredibly small. For a restaurant specializing in Latin cuisine, the drink menu needs to be extensively reevaluated and expanded, with many more tequila drinks and options available for customers. We would have stayed longer if the drink menu was more appetizing, but we decided to leave after we finished our dinner so that we can find another restaurant with better drink options to spend or evening. read more

Tried this place for the first time with my in laws and we were all very happy with our meal and experience. Started off with the guacamole and everything about it tasted great. For entrees we got camarones a la diabla (9/10) a zarandeado (10/10) and the showstopper - a tomahawk steak (9/10). Presentation was beautiful and the taste was great, the only downside was for the price, the portion was a little small. The sides we picked were the papa al horno which was amazing! Super creamy and delicious. The broccolini was also very good. For desert, the pastel de elote was absolutely amazing, while the creme brûlée fell a little short in taste, but nonetheless the presentation was amazing. The only reason I wouldn't give this place 5 stars is because 1. The service was a little slow. Granted, it was a busy Sunday and the waitress was very kind. And 2. The ambiance was pretty dark, we felt it was hard to see at times and when we went it felt very hot inside we were all a little uncomfortable and hot. OMG! Everything here was just absolutely fabulous! We started with the Maryland crab guacamole, and just fell in love right there. My wife had the Camarónes a la Diabla and tells me it was fantastic! While I had the hot stone Wagyu, and oh my gosh what a fine piece of meat. We also had brussels sprouts with barrberries and that was very good as well. The biggest value is perhaps lunch as there are a few options around $20 that are filling and delicious; beating similar pricing for lunch at other places, but at a lesser value. The interior is characteristic of 20th century American midwest saloon. A lot of Victorian decor with mahogany wood throughout. Much of the character of the restaurant is built on this idea. The restaurant group has done a good job of preserving what seems to be original interior and exterior design from the previous occupant, the B. F. Keith's Theater. There's a downstairs which has space for private dining, and there are multiple bars indoors, an atrium, and lounge all which the latter are operated by Old Ebbitt Grill. Overall, a very good experience for good good and a history lesson.

Good food and drinks; and if you want to be treated like you're at one of those satire restaurants where you pay them to demean/insult you, then dLeña is the place for you. My fiancé and I have been to dLeña previously, more specifically to their Roja Lounge for drinks and small plates. The drinks were so good that even our friends who were from out of town insisted we go again when they were back in town. I don't remember anything standout about the service, good or bad. When we saw that they were doing a New Year's Eve dinner with live music at their Roja Lounge, we were very excited to go with some friends. I booked the reservation, but noticed there was no ability to book the Lounge so I gave them a call to enquire about their NYE event and how seating downstairs would work. I was told that the setup would be as normal downstairs and there would be no reservations, walk-in only. I pushed a little bit on seating and the host insisted that it would be first come, first serve. I thought that was a bit odd on a night as busy as NYE, but didn't think much of it past that. On NYE we arrived a few minutes early for our reservation and our table wasn't ready, we were told we could go grab a drink at the bar upstairs or go down to their Roja Lounge. We opted for the lounge to give our friends an idea where we'd be spending the rest of the night after dinner (the ambiance is amazing downstairs). We come downstairs to find every table/lounge area has a RESERVED placard on it. At this point, I was very confused as the person I talked to on the phone insisted that they would not be doing reservations in the lounge, so when we went upstairs, I enquired with the host. She explained that the tables are only for members of their 'Tequila Locker Program', I asked why that wasn't explained to me on the phone when I enquired and eventually was told, "well you don't understand these people spend 2k every 6 months." As others have mentioned in their reviews, it seems to be a common occurrence at dLeña that insinuate that you don't belong or can't afford certain things (for context we spent over a grand on food and drinks that night (dinner was pre-paid) so that really rubbed salt into the wound). After dinner we went downstairs to the bathroom and there were still quite a few tables with reserved on them that clearly weren't occupied, this was around 11pm. While I went to the bathroom my fiancé enquired with the staff downstairs about what they would do with those tables if no one showed - they said the weren't sure. In the meantime, our friends had gone upstairs and found 2 seats at the bar, we were very excited that we finally found some seats to enjoy the rest of our night at! My girlfriend and I went to order drinks and were immediately told that she could only serve people who were sitting. At this point we were done with the constant inconveniences of this restaurant and asked for a manager. We explained the series of events to the manager and were met with again with a demeaning tone about how there are some very important people here tonight and constant name dropping of who those people were (director at IBM/Director of DC Parks & Rec), as if that had anything to do with the situation. Last time I checked, my money spends the same as the Director of DC Parks & Rec. After going back and forth, the manager went downstairs and came back up to tell us he may have something downstairs for us. We followed him downstairs to find the "space" he had for us was just that, a space in the corner of the bar with no seating. He said a table may free up and they we'll need to grab it as soon as staff took the reserved sign off. We decided at this point it was just time to leave, as we would have been in competition with the numerous other parties who also wanted somewhere to sit for the night. Again, if they had just explained that the tables would be completely booked, I would have either made plans. As you can imagine, it is impossible to get into anywhere in DC the night of NYE without a reservation. We noticed the table behind us seemed to also have the impression that they would be able to sit downstairs (or at least the potential to) and were scrambling to try and find a place to continue their night elsewhere. We also overheard multiple other parties complaining about how this was just a cash grab. While I know this review most likely won't change anything, I do hope that the team takes some time to consider the experience they are providing to their patrons. I understand that NYE is an extremely challenging day in the service industry, but whoever oversees booking decisions is making everything 10x more difficult for their staff and patrons. After reading some of the other reviews where people have had similar experiences, we will not be taking this as a one off because of NYE and won't be returning. read more
