I met up with a few friends here after attending the nearby escape room. Jaleo has been on my list for a long time. I love Jose Andres and have been to a couple of his restaurants. The restaurant was packed. So for sure get a reservation if you can. First things first, the restaurant is beautiful. The art, the menus, the ambiance. Just a really great hangout spot. Our server was really knowledgeable and friendly. As for the food , unfortunately, i didn't have anything that blew me away. My mini hamburger/Ibérico de bellota mini hamburguesa was actually my favorite item. Very juicy and flavorful. Though $13.00 for one slider was a bit much. My least favorite was the rabbit confit with apricot puree/Conejo en salmorejo con puré de albaricoques. I was excited about this because I can't recall the last time I've ever had rabbit but I think it was the texture of the puree that took away from the dish. Coming in at the middle was the seafood paella. I know it's one of the restaurants headlining menu items but I found the seasoning inconsistent. The rice seemed a bit salty and the shrimp was pretty bland. Combining it to balance it out didn't yield the flavor I was hoping for. Weirdly enough, if I went back and the table ordered it again, I definitely wouldn't mind but probably wouldn't get it myself unless my companions were interested. All in all, I'm not opposed to trying other items on the menu should I know anyone who would like to visit though I can't say it hooked me enough for me to go on my own accord

I went for brunch with my girlfriend, ordering a lomo de buey al Cabrales con huevo frito (steak and potatoes plate) and a pitcher. My food was good, but I wish the portion sizes were larger. The drink was tasty and strong enough to feel after two glasses.

Wow!!! Seated early for our dinner reservation which was so appreciated. Service was good. Timing between dishes was perfect. Not a single bad bite the entire meal and pleasantly surprised at the portion sizes. Wish I had a bigger group to try the pallea with because it looked so good!!

Is it spring yet? Had an amazing lunch experience at Jaleo this winter with warm modern interior with ample seating and friendly service. Did a walk in and didn't have to wait which was wonderful. It was a second visit after trying for the first time many years ago. Ordered endive salad, calamari, croquetas, gambas, pulpo, and scallops for food. Sloshed it all down with sangria and crowned it with a sweet ending of flan. Everything tasted amazing and authentic. Calamari and pulpo were tied as my favorite. The flan tasted a bit too lemony for me. I still dream about the tres leches I tried at Oyamel so I had high hopes for dessert but alas the food is their strong suit. Tldr it's Jose Andres - it's going to be good

I highly recommend trying out Jaleo during restaurant week! The food is delicious, but I will say that the normal menu is small portions (expected for tapas) for a high price. It is DC, so again, expected, but you get a good sampling of options for a reasonable price during restaurant week. I enjoyed the wine pairing with my food. The flan was my absolute favorite, so definitely save room for dessert!

This meal was quite possibly the best meal I've had in over 7 years. The shrimp seemed simple with butter and garlic, but was definitely my favorite bite in at least 7 years. The calamari and squid ink dipping sauce was insanely good. The rest of the dishes we got were excellent. The desserts were light and a perfect way to end our meal. . The restaurant seems casual, wear jeans, wear a suit or dress, come as you are. The atmosphere is inviting to all. The service is also down to earth and inviting. However the waitstaff may appear casual, but the service was definitely 5 stars . I dripped sauce on the table, and the next thing I knew the table bus-service casually and efficiently wiped up the drips in a way no one noticed but me. The service was amazing. . Pro tip, this place is so popular, it is best to get a reservation.

Super busy on weekend nights but it's a fun vibe when you're out with friends, and definitely worth it for the food! The paellas are huge so be prepared to share with a large group, but I personally like the tapas more. My favorite are the potatoes - SO satisfying with the cream sauces they're served with! The sangrias are also amazing, I highly recommend sharing a pitcher with your group.

We came in around 8:30 and sat at the bar. The bartenders were all friendly and had great suggestions. The sangria with cava was sweet and fresh. The paella takes about 45 minutes so we ordered one right away and then 1 tapa. The paella was amazing. Very rich and flavorful and perfectly cooked. The tapa was a type of pasta cannoli covered and cheese and stuffed with meat. It was very delish.

We had dinner here before going to a CAPS game and this is definitely a team favorite spot. How could it not be with delicious tapas, vibrant decor, and it's Chef Jose Andres... hello!!! Jaleo opened in downtown DC in 1993 and consistently ranks as a top DC dining destination and It was awarded a Bib Gourmand in the 2017 & 2018 Michelin guide to Washington, DC. In 2010 Chef Andres opened World Central Kitchen. He has been named one of Time magazines "100 Most Influential People" in 2012 & 2018, awarded the 2015 National Humanity Medal from President Obama and is an internationally recognized humanitarian. He's also a New York Times best selling author. The tapas aka small plates are designed to be shared, and they are the best authentically Spanish and local ingredients tapas, all inspired by Chef Jose Andres' childhood. We were a party of six and wisely made a reso. Our table was ready for us and we started off with some cocktails and got right into it with the food because hey small plates are cool like that. Being a party of six we shared a lot; too much to describe here, but the pictures of the food speak for themselves! Suffice it to say that we had a wide selection of meat, seafood, and veggies, followed up with dessert and of course good wine throughout. LQQK at those pics & you'll understand. Service was exemplary, and the atmosphere was perfectly lively and fun. Go here and support a local business and a celebrity humanitarian chef who is doing a lot of good in this world! Trust me you will not be disappointed.

Jaleo has greatly surprised me. My partner and I stopped by as we were were looking for places to eat in DC. This place was so BUSY we had to go eat at the bar. Galileo was an outstanding bartender with the most amazing hospitality I've ever experienced in DC. He greeted us in an instant, gave us menus, was able to make a drink upon request swiftly and put in our orders promptly. The food that arrived shortly after, I can't even put to words how well balanced these flavors were. I reordered the Carne asada con Piquillos twice! (Almost 3) 10/10. Ambience was lively, the restaurant was packed! I can definitely see this place in my recommendations for my friends and I to come visit.

This was my first time at the restaurant. Thule food was so scrumptious! Melted in my mouth! One of the best flavors in DC for sure! I like that the menu had several small plates for a decent price so we could essentially sample the menu. The restaurant was packed, so definitely have a reservation! Even so, the staff worked like clockwork and were super nice and attentive!

Came to Jaleo for my surprise birthday dinner! It was amazing! I've attached some photos of the menu for whomever reads this. And because i'm terrible at labelling what's in my photos. Anyway, despite the happy hour crowd (Jaleo really could benefit from expanding the restaurant's footprint whenever possible) which dissipated about 20 minutes into our reservation, our food was amazing. We shared a medium sized pitcher (good for 2 full rocks glasses each) of one of the Sangrias (my wife picked) and then chose several Tapas. Some of the photos of what we had are below and everything was super tasty. The potato and cod fritters, seared Scallops (they're on the third page) and the mushroom dish were the highlights for us for sure. But, across the board everything was a super flavorful and simple elevation of what your impression is. We did briefly contemplate the tasting menus, but we thought it best to just order a la carte. I think that's the right call. Also, the staff were super friendly and very helpful with our questions. My only nitpick is the Pan de cristal con tomate, while really flavorful and tasty didn't particularly strike me as "ethereal" as described on the menu. But that's a person nitpick. It also doesn't aesthetically look the best, I think it needs an herb sprinkling, despite how tasty it is. Just a heads up that, as I mentioned, the space gets CROWDED for happy hour, but by 6:45/7 there's plenty of tables. So just bear that in mind if you have a reservation around 6pm. We were at one of those small nook tables across from the bar but still had plenty of space despite there being people behind either of us.

The service and ambiance was amazing here. The food is the reason for the three stars. It just was not good. Maybe we ordered the wrong thing but it was the most unsatisfying meal I've ever had. I don't understand why the restaurant didn't carry hot sauce, horseradish, vinegar or cocktail sauce. The oysters needed something because it wash sooo bland. The rice dish we ordered that takes 45 minutes to make came out in 25 minutes so the rice was hard on the inside. We couldn't enjoy it. The waiter was nice enough to remove it from our bill. I don't see me going back.

Are most dishes spicy or can they come not spicy?

No, not all dishes are spicy. In fact, plenty are not spicy.

What vegetarian options do they have?

They have a lot. They have an awesome beets salad, apple salad, pan de tomate. Their patatas bravas are delicious. They have red pepper that are grilled. And a lot more

First, a friend made a reservation at least a week in advance for a table of three. We all got there on time, if not a few minutes early. The hostess then told us there was not a table ready for us, and worse, was unable to give us a time estimate on when a table would open up because "we do not time our tables." So what is the point of making a reservation? Hilariously he said we can wait for a table outside instead, but they Won't be turning on the heaters. Happy to know they want us cold and hungry. We ended up waiting by the bar area, which was uncomfortably packed, for a drink while a table opened up. The bartender there was nice and respectful! Eventually, after waiting for some time we got a table inside. It was quite loud in the main room. There were three separate birthday parties. We were glad to start ordering. We ordered the oyster mushrooms, patatas bravas, chicken thighs, seafood paella, and the pork belly. The pork belly had to be comped because they forgot about it until I reminded them over an hour into the dinner. To note, all of the food was lukewarm/cold with the exception of the pork belly because they forgot about it and it was prepared late. Even the paella, which is served on a cast iron, so it has the optics of being piping hot, was actually just warm. The rice felt a little hard. The mushrooms had too much breading in each bite. I enjoyed the green sauce in the chicken. A runner asked if we wanted complimentary bread with our green sauce, which we responded positively towards. But soon after another runner picked up the plate with the sauce and swooped it away. Then the first runner came back with the bread right after, noticeably confused by the lack of sauce. It felt comedic. I enjoyed the wine and the pork belly most. Truly unforgettable service.

It is typical of Spanish flavors, heavily relying on high-end cured meats and cheeses, and classics such as croquetas. There is something very special that goes into tapas because its suppose to satisfy you based on good taste over quantity. Large shrimp in a generous skillet of olive oil and slow cooked garlic slices and a iberico mac and cheese are some examples of how they elevate classics we are familiar with. We really liked that they learned into garlic and spice. We found dried Aji Caballero in our meal, great attention to source country. They have a very robust and generous drinks menu. Loved watching others not dining alone and embracing that share quality of the menu design. Perhaps it is not the best tapas I had, I would have liked to see a balance with lighter citrus flavors but maybe that was an ordering issue. I like the little fruit it comes with too 3/5 Seared scallop - usually squid in rice I feel like is just color but this one was super savory and delicious with a unique taste too that I'm thinking must be from the ink! It's made super well and the crispy sear on the scallop adds so much flavor but also the scallop was not overcooked at all, super bouncy and tender. 4.5/5 Spanish risotto - very moist and yummy! Even though it's just vegetables it's made well 3.75/5 Crispy pork belly - falls apart and very tender. Not dry at all! Unfortunately too salty though. Also very heavy. Meat too salty but veggies it came with like potato that soaks up the flavor was like inedible too salty 2/5 Seafood paella - I think it came out a bit faster than 40 minutes but I didn't keep track. Large serving size! Wish there was more seafood but lots of rice! Very moist and flavorful rice, seafood flavor comes through too! Wish they cooked it longer though since bottom is not crispy at all. Shrimp is overcooked unfortunately but individually seasoned. All the squids and octopus don't have much flavor but cooked well and not chewy at all. Mussels were good too but had some weird webbing on some pieces that made me not want to eat it and size is a bit small. Needs more seafood to balance the rice amount 4.25/5 Crimini mushroom - weird with the poached egg especially since there's a bunch of mushroom liquid below that I think would mix weirdly together. But ignoring that, the mushrooms themselves were very flavorful and actually taste really great with paella! 3.75/5 Basque cheesecake - very heavy and dense. Jam is not too sweet which is nice 1.5/5 Churros - very airy and light inside! The fried part is more than double the inside though so wish that was a little less thick so it can be a little less oily but still overall light. Came very warm and the dipping sauces were very liquidy. Chocolate is on the darker side which is a nice match 3/5

The "Crispy Duck Breast" is no longer served whole, but sliced on a bed of sauteed kale... and, sadly, seemed to be only a shadow of its former self. The Lamb Meatballs suffered from being mushy (a coarser grind would have made a world of difference in the texture) and lacked that meaty exuberance one treasures in any kind of meatball. My serving of Basque Cheesecake was almost comically tiny (at $9 per serving, perhaps not so funny after all). But my cup of Americano came out of the espresso machine strapping strong and piping hot, with a gorgeous head of natural crema from the oil of the coffee beans. So I will definitely return for a future Happy Hour to devour the outstanding Patatas Bravas and sip the good Margaritas, and to try the bargain Manchego Burger and other Happy Hour bites. For serious dining, Atxondo falls short of the mark... but for drinks and bar food, Atxondo turns out to be a real neighborhood gem. .

They just lit the candle and watched me lolol I like that the restaurant is by the water because you could watch the sun set. The photos reveal that we were here for a couple of hours because it progressively becomes more dim with the lighting. There was no rush for us to finish because our waiter made clear that there is no limit on how long we could be at the table. Food was great! Steven loved it more than I did, but I liked it, too. It was absolutely filling, even after our seafood tower as our first order. Recommend that you look on Reddit what they are known for because I forgot exactly what Steven ordered for us, but all really good selections that played a lot with seasoning combinations. Made for great leftovers for Steven! Drinks were also nice. Neither of us are big into drinking, but it tasted just fine in complement with the big meal that we had together. Highly recommend that you commute by public transit because the traffic was difficult. When you go to the restaurant, you got to go towards the water where the boats are, so you have to go through an alley way. Be safe when you go there! No uber or Lyft wanted to pick us up around that area, so ensure that you decide how your mode of transportation will be ... to and from the restaurant

We ordered the croquette appetizer, Red Snapper, Branzino, Artichoke and Potato Bravos. The artichoke dish was amazing, the fish perfectly prepared, maintaining the tender flakey texture with a hard sear on the skin. For those not accustomed to DC $$$$prices, will suffer from shock. The quality and experience are well worth the drain on your bank account. Reservation highly recommended. The only negative appears to be the front desk, who appear to have a difficult time figuring out what table to seat you at. We had a great server and were greeted by one of the General Managers. Very good price/value relationship in the upper price range category

Ser in Ballston is similar and also has a high price point but I never feel like I didn't get what I paid for there, or if you want tapas in Dupont that is more small plate oriented just go to Boqueria on the other side of the circle. We ordered their version of pan con tomate - which is a DIY project - the shrimp cocktail, the roasted eggplant, the artichokes with romesco sauce and the fish of the day. Portions were really small for the price and the flavor was pretty bland. I know that Spanish is about fresh, high quality food prepared simply but this just...didn't impress. Nothing was bad per se, just nothing was enough to make me glad I paid what we did. Ambiance was fine. Our server was nice enough. The bussers were aggressive - one to a point that he demanded the silverware out of my hand while I was still eating a small plate so that he could bring me a new set for the next course. Too much. And my husband, who is usually chiller than me, was really displeased by how rushed he felt by the speed with which they whisked away plates. It's not like they were low on available tables - they weren't. We are DINKS who are not shy about paying for good food but some of the prices were cost prohibitive even for us. The tasting menu was $140/person for like...regular tapas. Fish entrees on the rotating menu were upwards of $100 - some closer to $150. Maybe they were shareable but stll. I don't think I saw anyone ordering any. My husband said his $28 6 oz mackerel was totally bland. There wasn't a single thing I loved either. The pan con tomate - normally the true joy of my tapas going - DIY was a gimmick. For $14 it was 4 small tomato halves and 4 cracker thin pieces of toasted bread with a little olive oil and flakes salt and I had to assemble it myseld. I get they're trying to do something fun but the bread is supposed to be thick and absorbent and one of these pieces was so thin and hard it broke in two in my hand when I was rubbing the tomato on. Myself. I just don't see the need to come back here. Interestingly the server thought it was one of our birthdays (it wasn't and we checked that we hadn't accidentally said so on the reservation) and brought us a free cheesecake desert. Maybe she could tell we weren't impressed. Honestly, the cheesecake was the best part of the meal. Really good. And the beverage selection was impressive, if pricey. So maybe come for sherry and cheesecake and then like...order a pizza?

We ordered a bottle of the Cava, and four small plates, which was plenty of food. The mussels, labneh and Patatas bravas were all very generous portions. Labneh: 5/5, delicious, served with plenty of pita Patatas bravas: 5/5, with great flavor and crispy roasted potatoes Mussels: 4/5, generous portion size, and the sauce was very good but I wished the sauce was more white wine-based Tuna crudo: 5/5, not a ton of food but the flavor was absolutely delicious, very citrusy and fresh Labneh cheesecake: 4/5, served with a sauce that was a bit like cough syrup but otherwise absolutely delicious

We sat outside on the patio and it was a gorgeous day. The decor is perfect and I love that they've added plants to cover the staircase. Drinks were delicious and the food came out quickly. Our water glasses were rarely empty. Service was kind. Food wise if I were to stack rank I would say the hummus is the best of what we ordered. The pita bread is thick and garlicky and oily and massive. The croquettes would be at the bottom of my list simply because they're dissimilar from any I've had before and a little bit underwhelming. The tuna was fresh but it's a small dish and not much to write home about. The lamb skewers have a subtle kick to them and they're pretty substantial. I'll definitely be back to try more! Highly recommend on a warm summer day as you're covered by the canopy above, if you're looking for a rooftop vibe.
