Looked online went with my birth certificate and was told by Tammy, Mrs. John and the supervisor Mrs. parker that the birth certificate is worth zero pints. I arrived a little before 9 AM for my 9:15 reservation and was actually finished by my scheduled time, which was impressive. The process was efficient, and the staff behind the window were polite and helpful. The reason for the 4-star rating instead of 5 is due to the overall atmosphere and follow-up experience. The floor staff, starting with security, didn't seem engaged. Security barely checked my reservation, pointed me in the wrong direction, and didn't offer much assistance. The rest of the staff walking around looked like they were dressed for a backyard gathering, which didn't inspire much confidence. Additionally, I accidentally left my designer reading glasses behind and have been trying to contact the office for two days to check on a lost and found--no one ever answers the phone. Overall, the visit was quick and the service at the window was solid, but the lack of professionalism and poor follow-up cost them the fifth star. read more

I have been to this dmv numerous times over the years to renew my nyc state I'd .Usually the line is pretty long before you can get a ticket and if possible have a seat. If possible get down there early so you can get out early, I cant guarentee you that you will get out early, especially now do to the whole covid situation. But give your self some time,because the last time is was there before covid, I had to wait for some some hours lucky I had a seat ,every body is not that lucky. That was just to renew the state I'd, if you you are there for a driver's license that's a whole different line for that process .And from what I have seen it is also a nice wait ,so be prepared. read more

I've been told that they have some sort of "Appointment System" - I can't seem to confirm if this is actually true or not? Air Quality of the location is somewhat concerning to me? I'm praying that I didn't become ill from my recent visit. Employees were "Pleasantly Confused" - Overall, kind / not aggressive - But, they truly were clueless, and had no idea what they were doing. I was bounced to separate line/locations - kind of like 3-4 X's; - There seems to be one "Big Gal" who sat separately from everyone who knew everything and ran the show. She appeared mean and aggressive. I'm truly glad that I didn't have to deal with her. Last visit to a DMV - they threatened to have me arrested and I was mocked for having a CDL. Not to worry - it wasn't @ this location - I think it was @ Huntington, Long Island. Amazing right? Anyways - Given the volume of traffic - I'm grateful that I managed to get things done in a relatively reasonable amount of time. Super unprofessional ladies working at window 21 on 3/12/25 is horrible. The lady lining up people test with short hair even worse. They said I couldn't take test online and gave me a hard time when I said I did and passed and it was the only way to book appointment for dmv that's why I booked under test. She then said I must've payed someone online to take the test for me ?? Cause there is no online test. But I took the test stright from the nyc dmv site. I filled out my documents and she then gave me more of an issue cause I didn't sign it. When it clear states don't sign unless you are with the dmv person to witness which I did at window like your suppose to. Saying so you just gonna had me your documents and that's it? " like yes that's what I'm suppose to do .. then she sends me for the payment line and tells me to stand behind lady which I did. Then yells through windows I'm on wrong line when I wasn't. Even everyone on line said she said that line.. the Sercuity guard said I didn't call him when he heard her yell at me about the line because I said I'm there for payment he thought I was there for test. He's said but you didn't call me. Like no. Why would I call the Sercuity guard I called the DMV help line and they told me just come in and explain just for payment. I don't understand that if I called the dmv and they said explain the test was taking online why was everything so complicated.. in the end they finally gave me my permit cause I was in the system so they wasted about 2 hours with me instead of just putting me in the system and seeing it was completed online. To walk in without an appointment is a disaster. You need to have a "reservation" and in order to get one online is complicated. The guard outside the door was a sweetheart and helped us by telling us what to click to get in and we got in right away. I feel bad for all the non English speaking people who go here and do not understand what to do. I saw many of them either giving up and going home or calling somewhere because they did not understand. They should hire someone to help people at the door. read more

@nysdmv - DMV Jamaica is the perfect representation of total disservice by the government. I work 6 days a week - pay taxes and get treated like shit in this governmental institution- a system that I work and pay for! The staff are so rude , and sarcastic! It gets really frustrating when I am being treated like I'm the stupidest person in the world - really sarcastic , impatient staff @nysdmv. Why is it so hard to treat people with respect nowadays @nysdmv ? #nysdmv How can a government office in the city open from 830 AM to 4 pm when people work after 6 pm? Huntington DMV is better as they open from 8 am to 5pm . But then , I don't work and live in Queens just to do governmental transactions in Huntington, do I? Make an appointment, save time, they said. HA! What a joke at the Jamaica DMV office. At 9:30, you show your appointment bar code to someone who directs you to a line with 15 people on it. The same people who don't have an appointment are on line. There are 4 windows, one person working. During the one hour wait, a dozen people, some escorted by DMV 'friends' cut the line. A gentleman cuts in front of me and says "I have an appointment, I was told to cut in to the front". Now, with 6 people screaming the supervisor comes over and gives numbers out to the people with appointments. They explain the "computer was off" but they're fixing it. No apologies, no information, just wait. Another 45 minutes pass, meanwhile the "computer" comes back to life and they start calling people from the tote board. Ahead of the people who are waiting, ahead of the people on line. Chaos once again. There are many other DMV in the NYC area, I usually go to College Point. Recommend skipping this one, what a mess! And on top of this, New York has shortened the time your license will be valid, so we'll all get to come here more often. Thieves! read more

This place isn't closed lol but anyway.... yeah this dmv pretty much sucks but all dmv's suck. People keep complaining that the staff is slow (which some of them are) but honestly it doesn't help when majority of the people aren't coming prepared. I had A LOT of time to observe everything in there today and there were a lot of ppl who either didn't understand English at all or are naturally just dumb. I came with all documents/proofs filled out and prepared based on the instructions from the website - and each time I was at a counter it took less than 7 mins to take care of me. It's those clowns who keep holding up the counters because they don't like to read or don't know how to. This place still sucks (and very unorganized) but so do the people. Y'all suck!! On a side note, I got there at 845am & was out at 1120am. That sucked too. Everything about this sucks!!!! read more

I'm not sure why there are so many negative reviews but I had a positive experience. I think no matter which DMV location you go to, MAKE AN APPOINTMENT. This really will save you a lot of time. My one complaint is once you enter, there is one line to simply use the kiosk. There is one person "checking you in," but there are three self check kiosks. If customers were able to check in on their own, this would expedite the queue. The staff there were friendly and professional. I didn't encounter a staff member that had a bad attitude. There are few things in life people dread more than going to the DMV. These include: - Going to the Dentist - Going to the the opera (guys) - Going shopping during the holidays - Riding the train during rush hour - Listening to your GF/Wife during a game (oh no he didn't!) ...Well, you get the idea. I recently had to visit the DMV (cue sad violin), and was absolutely NOT looking forward to the long lines, loud uncontrolled kids, paperwork, and...yeah, you get the picture. Color me shocked when I arrived and discovered that this place had changed a lot. A LOT! They're far more automated and organized. They move far more quicker, and they use very modern systems. I was expecting a 3 hour wait (or more), but instead was in and out of there in 1.5 hours (which by NYC standards, is H-U-G-E). They still have a loooooooooooong way to go though. A long way. - There's still the rude workers. - Even if it's reduced, the wait time is STILL ridiculously longer than it needs to be. - There STILL needs to be less lines that you have to visit before actually getting to the line that can actually help you get going. ============================ **NOTE:** Things do indeed go much faster when you fill out the forms at the DMV website, print them out, and bring them in (along with the necessary IDs and fees). People not having their right IDs or incorrect paperwork is what usually causes the delays the guy told me. So glad I came here with everything I needed (the requieed paperwork I mean), 'cause as much as they've improved...I do NOT want to have to come back anytime soon, lol! read more

My biggest tip is to MAKE A RESERVATION ONLINE at the DMV website, choose a time slot and arrive on time (or a little early) This is how I was able to be in and out of the DMV in an hour flat ! I made a reservation for a non driver ID for 9:15 AM and arrived a little before 9:00 AM. After scanning my ticket I was seen 10 minutes later by the first person to take photo 30 minutes later I paid for my ID and got my temporary ID with a different person. I had a pretty positive experience here- I'm not gonna call the staff her super duper friendly but everyone down to the security guards were professional and cordial at all times. Went in to update my address because the website wouldn't allow me. When I arrived and told the security officer why I was there he directed me toward the ticket machine. At 12:35 there would've been 45 people ahead of me. No bueno ! Noticed they had one machine for such purposes. Drifted over to that line with 6 people ahead of me. I'm thinking, yes! This is more like it. Nah! Got to the machine, it scanned my current license and proceeded. Asked me to input my Cyrene address. It would not let me move past the building # and eventually gave me an error message ans kicked me off. When I asked the agent walking the floor , he said it being the machine will figure out the rest of my address using my social. Bull crap! No such thing. How thr heck would thr machine know that I moved two days ago. I was too done. I wasnt about to wait until they served 45 ppl. Left there went shoe shopping and off to happy hr. lol I will slip into the Rockaways office one evening close to closing time when they're moving more swiftly. read more

Going to the DMV doesn't have to be all bad. You can help yourself by being calm, having an appointment, arrive early, and printing everything out ahead of time. The dude at the door is kind of a hard-ass, but given the environment, I guess he has to be. He didn't like my appointment latter because he "never seen an email like that" (dark mode with green text). So I changed it to light mode and made the text black and he let me in. Whatever. Should have just printed it out. Once you get inside just follow instructions. They're not trying to screw you over; they're just trying to get through the day. Look around at their environment and have empathy. Be calm and pay attention. If you're doing that, you're probably already the smartest guy in the room. The employees here are very nasty and immature! They lack sympathy and are very rude. I came her today July 24th to finally get my permit, this lady with a hijab called me I went and it so happened she called me by mistake so I had to get back in line and wait, 3 minutes later she calls me. I asked her if it was okay to put a different mailing address because I'm not always at my home address, so she said sure she gave me a blank app to fill out once I finish take the test, passed the test filled it out and got on the line.. Once called I went up to the representative or whatever you call it. So I get there, calmly put my application and proofs down & photo receipt. She flips my application over before doing anything and SAYS nothing! After I'm standing there for two mins she says " there's an error, I can't process this because you didn't feel the back out" and I'm like can I just feel it out right now she's like no you have to retake your picture. And I'm like ok then I'll just give you the other application I have that has a different mailing address but the same number from the photo recipy. And she knew she could've just taken my other application because it was literally just a duplicate of the one I have it's just the mailing address(my job) was different. So I'm really calm and I'm like so I would have to wait on the line again? And she's like yeah. So I'm like again I just don't understand why can't you just take the second application it's the exact same thing. The pig belly lady literally starts yelling at me saying "I'm NOT ABOUT TO ARGUE WITH YOU, you had an attitude since you got here, and I have to GO. IF YOU DONT UNDERSTAND TAKE IT UP WITH THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT!" Lmfaoooooo, I'm laughing bc WTF. mind you I approached her calmly and just ready to pay and go! she said all that so loud and aggressive i was confused with who tf she was talking to. That I was literally speechless, I've never been disrespected like that IN MY ENTIRE life. I was so livid 2 minutes after, smh. Third... I'm pissed I'm on the phone with my sister twlllinh her everything calling pig belly all types of names because I was so mad! So I'm on line and given I wasn't suppose to be on the phone, so this other male employee tells me that he will have my score deleted and make me take the test over. So I just told my sister I would call her back. So when i retook the photo I asked the guy if I can see the manager and he was looking for her. So I get on the line and I'm waiting to get called so I can pay my fees and leave; and the manager eventually comes out and he's like "MISS, miss, come the supervisor your where looking for is here" so I said I'll come to her when I'm done paying because I don't want to lose my spot in line" and the male representative is gonna tell me there's no point of your standing in line when I can have your permit test scores erased?" This is who NYC hires IMMATURE employees who are petty? Such a shame. Lucky the manager isn't an immature women, very understand and nice, which is probably why they're assholes smh. So I ignore him because I didn't want to go entertain them anymore, I finally went to a representative with some sense he had short curly hair very professional wish they were all calm like that, and MATURE! The ones facing the test computers LORDDDDD! I'm gonna just pray for them and wish them the best cause their anger seems internal. First things first. The employees here are pretty nasty, plain and simple. The guys guiding me to license renewal were quite friendly, but that's as far as the customer service goes. Especially the guy I had, who was really rude and impatient, but just stay cool (and be empathetic, this has got to be one of the most miserable jobs anyone can have). Now that's out of the way... Secondly, BE PREPARED. I can't stress this enough. Be over prepared if you need to be, there's nothing worse than waiting on that awful line only to be told you don't have all your proofs. It happened to me once because I didn't bring my birth certificate (thank God I had an appointment with virtually zero wait time) and I was homicidal. Don't let it happen to you. Double, triple check. I even brought personal checks and cash because if the systems went down I wasn't going to let it fuck with me. The more prepared you are, the more seamless the process will be and the faster you can get out of that miserable shithole. And finally, MAKE AN APPOINTMENT. I went on Monday, the worst day to go, but I made sure to make an appointment. I made it for 10:45 and I was finished by 11:30. Can you imagine if I hadn't reserved a time slot? This place is also superior to the Whitestone DMV because you can complete your photo taking, renewal and payment in TWO transactions. The Whitestone location you need three separate transactions to do all three. Who has time for that? I saw a couple arguing at the exit about how they didn't tell each other to bring enough documents and they had to come back. Don't be that couple. read more

Update: waited in line for a ticket number for 30 minutes only to not be given a number and sent to another line for counter 21 (upgrading from regular DL to an enhanced DL). That took a shade over 20 minutes. However, I went through quickly after that (the guy at counter 21 did ask if I had made a reservation, so maybe it did mean something and that fast-tracked me?) and ended up out of there after 67 minutes total (so definitely good, as a whole). I was luckier, as some people (not in my line) had been waiting for 3 hours. Experience changed from 1 to 3.5-- I think that had I gotten to skip the ticket portion, I could easily have 30 minutes of my life back (Tip: ask if you have to wait for a ticket if you're there for upgrading to a new enhanced ID). The people at the counters were professional and helpful and seem to appreciate being talked with as people and with some politeness. It seems like common sense, but I think employees here get the gruffer moments of personalities. The place was packed -- basically every seat was claimed the entirety of my time here. Original: Been here 5 minutes, my reservation online means nothing (which seems to me that the larger issue is that this place is being very underfunded for its needs). I don't usually post reviews but I feel like I need to tell people if they need to go to a DMV, stay far away from this one! When we got in, we needed to complete a form but there were no pens. We were advised to go find one. We finally found someone with a pen and completed the form. Then we waited over 2 hours. When they finally called us to the window, there was a system error for our particular need and we were given a paper to come back within a week. We were told we would not need to wait again and would be able to go straight to a window. When we came back we were told that wasn't a thing and we were given a ticket to wait as if we had never been there and already waited before. There was no one to talk to and it felt like whoever we dealt with were looking for reasons not to be able to do what we needed. Also our appointment time had nothing to do with the actual time we were seen. My friend went to a different DMV and said everyone was so nice and helpful and she was in and out in a few minutes. read more

Some observations about the DMV: 1) Is it a prerequisite to be a complete toolbag to work here? 2) Why does the place always have long lines, Monday morning or Friday afternoon, the place is always crammed with people. 3) Why do I have to pay to park in the parking lot. As a driver, you have no other options really besides that lot. Its bad enough I am getting raped inside the building, do I need to get assaulted when I am trying to leave the scene of the crime too? 4) Am I the only one that is delighted by the fact that the internet has made it easier to avoid going here? Drivers and pedestrians beware: I am now the proud owner of a valid driver's license. We're gonna share the streets but this time I'm behind a wheel. It only took me a few months. If I had only known to avoid the Herald Square location for a license switch, maybe I would have had my NY state license last year. My advice is to avoid the Herald Square location at all costs. Why put yourself through unnecessary misery, frustration, and disappointment when you don't have to? The line at this location was a 10th of the line in Manhattan, the people were calm and also very helpful. Why the staff at Herald Square could not help me in the same way I was helped in Jamaica, is aggravating. I call laziness and power trips. Overall, I give great thanks to the crew here for being efficient, able to explain what needs to be done, and for being very patient. Free Zipcar rides at your own risk! Next up: Forklift License. Positive: Security was nice. The greeter idea was excellent and they were nice. Needs Work: The greeters aren't 100% sure as to what forms you should fill out which can cause a major delay in your time there. Outside of a couple of workers behind the desk, the majority of the other workers seem angry, disinterested, and not willing to help. They seem like they expect you to know everything about DMV forms. If you don't, they're nasty about it and talk to you like you're dumb. Then they give you a number and tell you to go wait again. Of course, we need to accept different personalities but the workers I encountered were beyond unprofessional. The particular lady who was supposed to "help me" got mad when I respectfully questioned something about my document. The bottom line is that the negative "I don't care attitude" permeates throughout this DMV. If you want to get what you came to do done, you kind of have to deal with the extreme nastiness.
