To avoid the usual pain I make appointments at the Midtown location and that's been alright but today I was in the Richfield area and stopped in without one. The person at the front desk verified I had everything I needed and gave me a number. I waited my turn and then was done within 5 minutes w friendly service throughout. Very chaotic method of operating. Ticket system up until 2:30pm and don't even bother walking in after 2:30pm despite operation hours being until 4:00pm. I got here around 11:45 and Waited for an hour before I gave up and walked out. Could be a staffing issue that causes the long waits since there are very limited things you can even do at this location. If I could just upload docs online and avoid it all I would! The folks that do work there were at least nice. read more

So I'm not sure why this DMV has such a low star rating. When you read through the reviews this DMV actually has a very good rating. The people that put three stars don't understand the rating system: a good review equals high stars. Came in today to get my tabs or tags if your not from MN. The staff was super friendly and there was one employee working very diligently out in the waiting area!!!! Where have you ever seen that in a DMV, she should get a raise!!! Once we made it to the counter...........we were done within a few minutes!! Once again she deserves a raise as well. This DMV puts all others to shame, they were just flying through the waiting line, calling one number after another. This is a wonderful Licensing and Passport Center. Ridiculously long wait time. Took 30min with only 3 people in front of me. Only 1 person behind the window (there are 3 windows) all the while there were workers walking around in the back. Avoid this location if you know things are more efficient elsewhere. read more

I arrived to get vehicle tabs at 3:20. I was sent away because they were closing at 4 pm. I was told that this location closes at 2:30 in order to close by 4 pm. I was under the impression that open until 4 pm meant you are open until that time. I left work early to be certain to arrive with time to get my tabs. Please correct this inconvenient and misleading hours of operation. If you are open until 4 pm, keep your doors open until 4 pm. read more

I needed tabs and I generally wait until the last minute so I arrived at the Richfield DMV yesterday around 2:45pm. It was busy with others who must have waited until the last minute as well. As I drew my number 28, I noticed that they were only at #10 on the wall. I sat down and expected a fairly long wait. The location is very nice and clean, with a lot of windows and places to sit. There is enough room for six customer service agents but when I got there, there were only four working. By 3pm two more came on and the drove of people working started to rotate out, with new customers showing up at increased intervals. I ended up waiting about 45 minutes, getting out by 3:30 so not too bad. The rep was very nice and efficient. I tried not to linger because people were waiting. All in all it was a fairly decent experience. Nobody likes hanging out at the DMV but I would return to this particular location. Next time I will try not to wait until the last minute. read more

I wish I would have discovered this location years ago! WIth easy access off Portland, this location is right inside the Richfield municipal building. This is a beautifully clean and new (not sure how new) looking location. The hours are also attractive, as they are open until 6 on the Mondays. The staff was friendly and efficient. Although very small, I was able to get in and out in only 10 minutes, with only three people ahead of me in line. If this is your 'hood in the Twin Cities, definitely check it out next time you are in need of DMV services. However, bring cash or check only! read more

There are several conflicting operating hours on the internet for this location. Currently, (9/10/21) due to Covid limitations, The Richfield DMV is open Monday-Friday 8:00am until 4:00pm. As a walk in location, you should plan on arriving by 2:30pm to get a number to insure you are able to finish your transaction by 4pm. Monday and Friday afternoons (especially the beginning and end of month) can be quite busy, expect a wait. Middle of the week and mid-month will most likely be the shortest wait times. Transactions tend to increase as the day goes on, please plan accordingly to best support your schedule. Please check in at the Information Desk to get a number and verification that you have all the documentation needed to complete your transaction and that this location is able to handle your request. This location can NOT RENEW any driver licenses, it can replace lost or stolen and make address changes. Kathy is a one-woman show! She was at the front door greeting every customer and during voting elections. She answered every question accurately and if she didn't know, she confirmed with her peers. This DMV location although limited in specific operations due to the smaller space, has great customer service. Customer service is a tough business; you're dealing with all sorts of dynamics in human behavior and some folks wish to share some of their bad days with EVERYONE. Don't rate a business based on emotions. You higher ups making decisions need to pat your workers on the back and reward for going above and beyond. read more

This place has only been here about a year, so I don't know what they dude that said he wished he would've heard about it years ago is thinking. Especially when he reviewed it in February of 2012. I think there's a big plaque outside of the main entrance that says October or November of 2011. Either way this is a great and easy place to get tabs or license stuff. *EDIT* Or it was. This once wonderful and convenient location has turned into your typical, standard fare, DMV Mecca that sucks 20-50 minutes of your life and every bit of patience you have. read more

Nice building, and a convenient location, but the service was horrible. The people I saw just getting tabs renewed appeared to get decent service, but the service I got concerning my passport application was atrocious. Even though I addressed her politely, there was an older blonde woman who talked to me (a 45 year-old man) as though I was a child who was getting on her nerves. In addition to the rudeness of the staff, they didn't seem to know much about processing passport applications. Unfortunately, they didn't have feedback forms, so I am writing on Yelp.
