I had spent an hour and a half at the Cranston DMV the day before and they were not even close to calling our number. Staff was pleasant, patient and efficient. They have two security guards which I thought was excessive. Nope. A customer came in two hours after his reserved appointment , was turned away and he was pretty heated. They are, in fact, very needed. Also, these employees seem motivated to help and keep things moving. They don't make the rules. When I returned she found 3 errors on the application, she said correct the errors, print it out before you return again. This was later afternoon on Christmas Eve. I wished her a merry Christmas and she replied "I'm just doing my job ". To me it sounded like "I was just following orders ". How would this have played out if I had not prepared? Reservations for the main location in Cranston generally book 2-3 weeks out. I made 2 appointments for the same day, one for the morning and the other for the afternoon in case I needed to gather additional information and didn't want to wait another 2-3 week for an appointment. One good thing about COVID is that it forced a restructuring of the DMV, which ended up being better for customers and employees, so many of the updates are still in place today. Step 1: make your reservation online for the day, time, and location you want to visit Step 2: arrive during your scheduled time Step 3: security will ask to see your confirmation before allowing you access to the building Step 4: wait in the check in line and hope that you have all of the forms and documents you need to get whatever you came for done Step 5: get called to the check in window (there are 4 of them) Show the employee behind the plexiglass your confirmation number, hand over your paperwork and forms for them to review and validate. If you have everything that you need, you receive a deli style ticket with a number on it and get to proceed to the upstairs waiting area. If you don't have all the paperwork and forms you need, you'll need to straighten that out before you go any further Step 6: wait in the second floor waiting area. The seats are so worn out that the faux leather is completely work off, leaving a spongy foam cushion to sit on. Even with an appointment, I waited 40 min for my number to be called Step 7: when your number is called, proceed to the numbered booth/window the automated system told you to enter and hand your paperwork over to the employee sitting behind that plexiglass. This person may or many not be friendly, but as long as they can take care of what you went to the DMV for, that doesn't matter. Pay your fee, collect your receipt, and leave.

But now with the pandemic, reservations are required, and where are these actually located??? I had to look at a map to figure that out. Reservations open up during the work day, and are snatched up lickety split, so take advantage of being able to renew your Driver's License up to a year in advance and lower your stress level as you attempt to make an appointment. The RMV won't let you in without an appointment. We tried. It was that or shoot to grab a freshly available reservation after the Driver's License expires, and ask someone who still has a good DL to take you. But fortunately, later on that week, someone must have cancelled, and we managed to grab a same morning appointment. The location wasn't the most convenient, but at this point, who cares? Score! Make sure to have plenty of time for your appointment. It took us us 3 hours to get all set here that day.

And she goes, "what happened at the stop sign.." and I'm already very frustrated at this point. And she fails me for not being stopped for 5 seconds. I've never heard of this in my life. So I ask for a supervisor. No supervisor. I get a number, and they gave me a fake number that didn't even ring. Long story short. Don't plan on passing anything by the sounds of how they operate at this location. Unless you are bringing extra cash because that's the type of people that work here. Such a waste of tax paying dollars on these useless employees. If we are implementing AI not sure why we are wasting money on all of these low motivated paper pushers.
