John was hired to do our wedding in Carmel at Quail Lodge. They handled the uplighting, the Photobooth,the ceremony music, and even last minute additions and changes very well (a whole choir section for the ceremony). John even called me the day before to give me recommendations for the song for the processional for the ceremony. He was right! One song would not have been long enough and thanks to his advice, I was able to add in another song last minute and it turned out great. The music at the reception was a great mix of music and the DJ honored our requests as to when to end the music so we would not incur extra fees (despite the crowd wanting more). Mario Castenellos was our dj for our wedding at the memory garden in September and we couldn't be happier with him. DNA recently DJ'd our wedding in Monterey, and we were very happy with the results. The owner, Anthony, was a fast and courteous correspondent, and uber-friendly and professional - a real treat to work with in the lead-up to the wedding. Darion was the actual DJ at the wedding, and he was very good about pacing the music and avoiding songs we didn't want played - the dance floor was definitely hopping all night. The only snag of the evening were some of the announcements - although he did everything in a very appropriate and respectful manner (unlike a lot of wedding DJ's I've seen), Darion did have a few bloopers in there - for instance, we were announced as the "husband and groom" when we walked in!!!! But even with those few snafus, the evening went very well, and hey, if anything had to go wrong, a couple of verbal misquotes were the least of my worries - and it provided a good laugh to our guests! :D read more

I met with Anthony who also happens to be the owner and we hit it off! He really gets the intricacies of wedding music and playing options for all ages. My husband and I held a destination wedding in Big Sur on 8/8/10, and we were SUPER happy with Jon Belmont from DNA Entertainment. I originally found DNA while I was looking to rent some lighting from http://www.chiceventdesign.com as well as speakers for our iPod when I met Anthony over the phone. I learned then that he also owned/managed DNA Entertainment. Anthony corresponded with me for almost a half year, always providing prompt, realistic and reasonable answers to my very detailed questions. As most couples, we were on a budget, and we had to decide between either getting lighting and renting equipment for an iPod wedding, OR getting a DJ. After speaking to a few friends about their experiences with iPod weddings (and how people ended up being bored and not dancing to the music being played), we decided on hiring a DJ. And we couldn't have been happier!! There is definitely something to be said about the skills a DJ brings to events: timing and introductions to the different segments of your events, bringing laughter & witty jokes, being able to read the type of crowd you have and the kind of music that gets them up & dancing. Jon was just wonderful! A week before our wedding, we submitted all the music we wanted to play for the different sections of our wedding. We knew what we wanted, and that helped him understand the type of ceremony, reception, and dance party we were hoping for. Can't imagine you'll find a better DJ service in our area! DNA is reasonably priced, in other words when we got our quote I wasn't surprised, but very pleased with the amount and right on target with our expectations. DNA is very quick to respond to inquiries and easy to work with, I think we only had to meet with them twice. We had Darion as our DJ and he was awesome. My wife met Darion at a bridal/wedding convention and she immediately booked him(book early too!), I would highly recommend meeting your DJ before hand because it seems like each has their own personality and musical tastes and you can easily work with Anthony to match theirs to your own. Much like the last review we didn't even have our music list done until a day or two before the wedding and we emailed it to Darion no problem. We had our wedding and reception at two different locations and DNA was early and ready to rock. We did end up needing a generator for our ceremony site(outdoors), but there were supposed to be outlets and somebody had smashed/removed them. However, DNA saved the day by getting a generator(at no cost to us I might add) with plenty of time to rehearse for the ceremony. The ceremony then went flawlessly and the song we chose for my wife's walk down the isle was mixed in so perfectly, it still chokes me up to hear it today :-). It was a really magical moment that DNA helped us achieve. I know I will never forget it. At the reception DNA played everything we had requested and then some, it was great. Darion matched the music he mixed in with our selections and we loved it. Our guests loved it and there was pretty much constant dancing throughout the night. Never a dull moment, the night went by very fast for us. We recommended DNA to our friends for their wedding and they did not disappoint. It was another awesome party. Chris Chambers served both DJ & MC for our wedding, and did an amazing job! He sync'ed with us two weeks prior to the wedding to iron out step-by-step logistics and song selections. Throughout this process, he was patient, nice and very accommodating to all our choices, while recommending great songs for those details we happened to forget (e.g. cake cutting or ambient music prior to ceremony). On the wedding day, he made the transitions from event-to-event seamless and directing guests without effort, incorporating details such as reminding guests of the open bar prior to the toast event, or to fill out the guestbook in middle of cocktail hour, etc.... He was also flexible at our impromptu requests such as moving particular events earlier, such as the "shoe game" and the sparkler send-off. Also, he even accommodated our maid of honor's last minute request to sing a specific song during the toast! During the open dance, he found a way to incorporate all the top songs on our playlist in the open dance, creating smooth transitions and supplementing the beat with his awesome disco-like lighting system. He even jumped in and taught us how to dance to one of the songs! Overall, Chris made the wedding an incredible experience. Many of our guests also raved about what a cool, awesome DJ we had, one wishing they could have him at their wedding (although their venue wouldn't allow outside DJ's). read more

My wife and I decided to book DNA Entertainment for our wedding in October at The Monterey Bay Aquarium. Our DJ was Jason, and he did an incredible job. Communication was very good, pricing was very reasonable, and the planning process was simple and stress free. From what I've been told, weddings at the aquarium can be difficult for vendors because there is very little time to set up. They closed the aquarium at 5pm, vendors were allowed in at 5:30pm, and the wedding began at 6pm. Jason was set up and ready to go no problem. DO NOT USE THIS DJ!!!!!! WORST DJ EVER!!!!!!! THEY WILL RUIN YOUR WEDDING!!! I used DNA for my wedding back in October and the DJ was horrible!!! I will start at the beginning. When we meet with DNA they had us meet with one of the senior DJs they have on staff, but when it came to booking DNA, that DJ was unavailable so he suggested another DJ. When it came to meeting this DJ only a few months before the wedding, the DJ seemed annoyed we asked to meet him, he seemed uninterested in what we had to say and gave both of us the impression we were wasting his time. He showed up about 45 minutes late, after we paid to extend the time limit an hour to make sure that he would have enough time to set up both the reception and ceremony sites. He claims he was lost. Then when I asked for that money back I was told no. We paid extra money to have the DJ at the ceremony site so our live music could plug into the system, however on the day of the wedding the DJ argued with our musician in front of our guests!!! Then the DJ left the cocktail hour early because he needed to set up the reception site. I was later informed by staff members that they set up his equipment because he did not know how to!!! What DJ does not know his own equipment? He informed the staff that this was his first wedding!!!!!! AFTER we were told that all the DJs had several years experience in DJ-ing weddings! During the reception, the DJ was horrible! He messed up announcing the bridal party, then he almost messed up our name!!!! We are the bride and groom and the DJ almost forgot it! During the father daughter dance he messed up the music and stopped it half way through, realized what he did and restarted it! I found out after the wedding that I had guests going up to him and requesting music and he would ROLL his eyes and say when he gets to it, he gets to it!!! I did not pay all that money for him to be rude to my guests! I informed the owner and his response was, I will talk to the DJ! That's all!!! Then he was also rude to my mother! She went up and asked for other music to be planned because she thought more people would enjoy other music, he said to her, "I didn't ask for your opinion did I?" Who says that to the mother of the bride? Needless to say the entire night did not go the way I planned and when I informed the owner, he didn't seem to care! It was very frustrating and it is hard to hear that people did not enjoy the music or dancing part of the wedding! I would suggest to anyone and everyone that is planning on using DNA is to RUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! RUN in the other direction!!! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!! They do not care! read more

I'm really not sure why everyone says DNA is so fabulous... my experience with them was pretty negative. I had my wedding in Carmel recently, and hired DNA at the start of the planning process (about 9 months before) to provide DJ services. Generally speaking, they were pretty unresponsive. After expressing my dissatisfaction, I was suddenly assigned a different DJ. This DJ was very nice... but ultimately brought the music worksheet I had provided in February (and significantly revised since then) to the wedding in October, and consequently neglected to play key songs (including my Dad's song dedication to my Mom), made hardly any of the important announcements I'd scripted, and wasn't paying much attention to what actually got the guests dancing, but rather focused on what he thought should appeal to guests at a wedding reception around 9:30pm... Overall, not a great experience and I definitely wouldn't recommend DNA to any brides-to-be. @Anthony K.: the only "discrepancy" is between how you say your company operates and how they actually operated at my wedding. I filled out the 9-pg planner. Then, over the course of 9 months, I revised it, and I delivered the revised version to my DJ BOTH in-person AND via email prior to the wedding, yet Jon used the outdated version at my wedding. To make things worse, two of my groomsmen were planning to sing during the dances and had emailed their accompaniment tracks directly to Jon. They got no acknowledgement, so they emailed Jon, and I emailed him, and they sent the tracks again... and on the day of the wedding, Jon said, "no, I never got the tracks." Interestingly, you, Anthony, were supposed to have been my DJ originally. But I had emailed you several times with several questions, you were completely unresponsive, when you did respond, your email was rude and patronizing, and when I complained to my event planner about it and they spoke with you, suddenly I was introduced to Jon, my "new" DJ. Say whatever you want to make yourself feel better. But not much is going to make me feel better for having spent thousands of dollars with your company. read more

Chris Chambers served both DJ & MC for our wedding, and did an amazing job! He sync'ed with us two times prior to the wedding to iron out step-by-step details and song selections. For example, before our parents gave the toast speech, he made sure to give them a headsup so that they know they are about to talk; While I was changing dress before the second grand entrance, I was thinking I forgot to let Chris know when to start playing the second grand entrance music since he is inside the venue and has no idea when I am ready. When I finished changing and walked to the door of the venue, Chris was already there waiting for us at the door (and immediately walked back to his station and played the grand entrance music)! We made a video for our wedding and Chris also helped test it out before the wedding. We both agreed out of all our wedding vendors, Chris was the best. Thank you Chris!! read more
