I've been coming to DNA Motor Lab for years now; Daniel, Woody and the rest are great, friendly guys that do solid work at fair prices. They've kept my Ducati Monster and my wife's Vespa in running shape for years, and it's even better now that they have a convenient location on Mission. Not being from CA and a new transplant I was uneasy with bringing my motorcycle to a shop. I found DNA Motor Lab on yelp and couldn't pass it up based on the reviews. Though the insurance company deemed the motorcycle totaled Daniel went above and beyond while my motorcycle was in his care. Most shops would be out to make money off repairs but Daniel was very detailed with pointing out the condition of the bike and the safety issues that it may present. I bought my Flyscooter at DNA over a year ago, and I had a great experience then. I got an amazing deal, the guys there were incredibly helpful, and I love my scooter! I hadn't had any maintenance done, and then Daniel of DNA sent out an email about "Spring Tune-Ups." As my scooter is my primary form of transportation, I figured it was time. I emailed Daniel, and he said that he could do "house-calls," as the business had moved from Oakland to Castro Valley, which is a trek on the scooter. We made an appointment for later that week. When Daniel came over, I expected to give him the keys to my scooter and go back in my apartment. However, Daniel let me watch the tune-up, and while he was working, he taught me how to change the oil, check the brake fluid, and gave me various tips on how to maintain my scooter myself. This information was super helpful! I am by no means someone who knows very much about scooters / engines, and I learned a lot. I was really impressed that Daniel seemed to care more about me understanding and being able to care for my scooter myself, then ensuring that I would keep paying for tune-ups. My scooter is now driving better than ever, and I couldn't appreciate DNA Motor Lab more. I highly recommend DNA Motor Lab for all your scooter / motorcycle needs, from purchasing to maintenance. This place is AWESOME!! I went there because i couldnt put my tire and inner tube onto the rim of my electric scooter, at first they said they dont usually work on electric scooters but he gave it a try anyways the first time he put it on the inner tube was already popped so i had to get a new one and bring it back but the second time he did it in literally 5 minutes wen me and dad were trying to put it on for a week. First time I used DNA was years ago when Dani was working out of his home to repair my daughter Atv. Very expensive, but he did get it back running. Fast forward 3 years later, had another problem. I searched for other atv shops in the Bay Area because Dna are too expensive. I could only find two there locations that was busy so my only choice was to deal with DNA if I wanted prompt repair. So I took it back to DNA. Brian received my atv told me that he would call me with an estimate once he found out what was wrong with it. Brian called three days later for me to come pick up my atv, it's fixs and the repairs came up to $550. I asked him what happened to calling my with and estimate? His reply " I called but you did answer". He then mumbled that "you must not have the money to pay, I expected kinda expected this". I hung up the phone and was there at the shop asap. Wanted to kick his little skinny ass, but I have too much too lose. I spoke to Dani about the situation as an adult should, Dani agreed that Brian should have gotten my approval before doing all the work that he "CLAIMED" he did. Dani asked would I pay if he reduced the cost to $330. I paid only because I felt that Dani was sincere with his apology for Brian actions. I let bygones be bygones. A week ago I took my atv in because it was running poorly. I made it clear that I did not want Brian to work on my atv. They agreed. Dani did a diagnostic. He told me that repairs would cost thousands, more then the atv was worth. I paid him $100 for diagnostic and picked up my atv. Took it to another shop Proven Performance in Oakland. They repaired my carburetor only costing me $400. My atv runs perfectly now. DNA WILL RIP YOU OFF IF YOU DONT KNOW ANY BETTER. read more

Daniel came straightaway to pick up my scooter (a Flyscooter, which he knows very very well) when it had a wicked electrical fire. He carted the vehicle off to his shop, but only after having a thorough lookover and explaining to me exactly what was going on. Since I'm a woman, I appreciated his respect and lack of condescension when explaining the problem. As another reviewer said, he knows his Chinese scooter engines, and scooters/motorcycles in general. I feel very lucky to have him here in the East Bay; they made the appropriate repairs for competitive prices and got my bike back to me within a couple days. My scooter is running better than ever, and I know where to take it for tune-ups and troubleshooting. By the way, Daniel and his people respond really quickly to emails. I am new to 2-wheeled, motorized vehicles and when my 2001 Honda Reflex would not start, and the local shop couldn't figure it out, he gave me the bad news that it needed a new starter, which runs $300 or more for the part new. He encouraged me to look on line and I found a used one for $50, had it shipped to the shop and it's been running great! I'd give a 6th star for reasonable rates , a 7th star for pick-up and delivery (I live in Alameda) and an 8th star for his continued follow-up over email to make sure everything was running well, not to mention some free advice that fixed a sticky throttle. I have a 2005 Kawasaki 636 and my rear tire was going bald. They had a nice selection of used tires and sold me a nice Michelin at a great price. A couple days after that something was wrong with the tire it was leaking air they told me to bring it right back and they took care of it no questions asked these guys were super cool. I was handling some business in SF and when I came outside my tire was flat again. I drove to the closest gas station to put air in the tire and it just came right out I looked at my tire and I saw there was a big fat nail in it I called DNA motor labs they said you know what buddy you've been having such bad luck with that tire we going to get you a whole new Michelin. My Suzuki has never run so well, and the price was very fair. DNA even provided an e-mailed quote in pdf format with a price breakdown between parts and labor. He is honest and definitely was out to help me put my 1986 Honda Elite back on the road. He picked up my scooter from San Francisco because the valve stem was cracked. My scooter was not idling. The gear oil was not changed for over 25 years. Wheel was rusted really bad after he took off the wheel. This guy Daniel brought my scooter back to life in 4 days. All through out the process, we was trying to save me money by not doing anything that was not necessary. Trust is very important with me. Daniel passed with flying colors.
