He will talk shop with you, and answer your questions easily, he's straight up and you will get a fair price for the work he performs, never a rip off in this shop. Today he even let me bring my bike in with just a call in the morning! Plus he showed me the best grease for my chain, and got the stubborn chain grease from my new chain off my rear wheel. As the daughter of a mechanic and motorcyclist, I was conditioned from an early age in the world of gruff, eccentric guys in shops with poor people skills. I expect nothing different when I go to a motorcycle shop than to be treated like I am doing something wrong or asking too much - it's just the way it is in that environment, right? In the past year or so, I have had pretty good experiences with getting repairs done at Hayasa. Tyler is really good about cutting to the chase and providing his opinion on motorcycles, repairs and the like. In fact, if it weren't for his eye-rolling and disgusted sigh, impelling him to the keyboard to find an option to a used KLR, I wouldn't be on my DR650 now. Tyler had mentioned in the past that he could get better deals on some items - and I called to ask him about a helmet that I was interested in. When I went to pick it up - it did not fit at all - it was a 58-59 - and I needed the 59-60. He said "Well, I don't do returns so you'll have to sell it on Craigslist." Six weeks later - no bites. I asked him about it by phone - all he has to do is phone the distributor to authorize the return and I would ship it back - and he was very hostile and borderline verbally abusive on the topic. Now it is past 30 days and there's no chance of returning it to the distributor and all I can offer for this update to my original review is: TYLER DOES NOT DO RETURNS. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING THAT MIGHT NEED TO BE RETURNED. Save him the stress and save yourself the hassle. Just go get repairs - do your own tire changes, head to Road Riders in San Jose or go online to Procycle.us for your gear - just don't stress the man out with your customer service oriented requests. One additional caveat: If you pay with Visa, the merchant contract requires that the merchant display their returns policy clearly or print it on the receipt (ie, "no returns/refunds/exchanges") while Master Card does not. Fast forward to several years later -- a friend was borrowing my DR650 for a trip. He asked that we meet at Tyler's shop where he wanted to change out tires and do a few other things, and we would trade bikes. My friend already ran this plan by Tyler -- when I arrived without my friend, Tyler took one look at me and said "How DARE you show up here! Leave before I call the police." I said, "Tyler, if there is something you want to talk about, I'm happy to listen." He muttered some obscenities and went back into his shop (mind you - I wasn't even on his property). I don't think that anything I wrote in in this review is bad enough to merit that kind of abuse. My friend and I went to another shop where he spent over $300 -- and Tyler has since "fired" my friend as a customer. read more

The Good: I've been going to Tyler's shop for about ten years or so. He helped me choose my current VStrom bike and I love it. There is one thing about Tyler that you don't see too much and that is his fairness for his rates. He will inform customers of options in fixing the problems with their bikes, including suggesting getting it done by the stealership if the job is complicated. He is extremely kurt at times but never rude or condescending. I've had two bikes and lots of work done at this shop. There has rarely been a problem with the work and when there was, he was honest and fixed it right. The Bad: If he does not like your bike, he might let you know. He may not have his voice mail system set up so you cannot leave one. He's a one-man, sometimes two-man, shop so he has to get the phone and help the customers as they come in. It's amazing but you rarely have to wait too long and he answers the phone diligently. All that kurt behavior makes him very efficient. So don't take it the wrong way. The deal is that you have to call him when the shop is open and speak to him personally. After an oil change, ask him if he aired your tires. Most of the time he does. read more

After searching for a few days I came across the guys at Hayasa and I am so happy I did. Anton and Tyler are both two of the most honest mechanics I've ever met in my life. They truly seem to work with passion, as opposed to solely profits and figures. That's is something really rare. Their workmanship and service is a testament to that. I've had a lot of experiences with a lot of motorcycle mechanics, and this is the only one I'll trust to take care of my bike. The owner is friendly, down to earth, and honest. Yesterday, he fixed my bike in fifteen minutes while I waited and then refused to take my money. The same problem put me out a week of repairs and $700 later it was only a temporary fix at a different shop two years ago. My partner took their bike to a totally different shop, and that one took over a month to replace the chain, and then acted like jerks when they weren't available to pick it up the day it was done. I can't imagine this shop doing the same. Every time I get something done here, it is fast and affordable. Tyler at Hayasa is THE PLACE to go if you have an old Honda. Especially to get the crappy front master break cylinder replaced with a modern one. I have a 76 Honda CB750 super sport. For a super fair and competitive price, he replaced my front brake master cylinder with one from a newer bike that matched. (I can't say what type, because he said it was one of his trade secrets.) And now the front break is just dreamy good. Perfectly responsive, yet smooth. I feel a lot safer on the bike. Added to all this he's super friendly, to the point, and will give you an honest answer whether something really needs to be repaired or not. I especially liked that he did the work to search for a used part on Ebay to save me money. If it's cleaned and remade by a professional like him, a used master cylinder is perfectly fine.
