The Maxey Community Center is a nonprofit located in a historical building in Winter Garden. The…read morebuilding was built in 1949 as the Annex Theatre and used for the east side African American community. The building closed in 1962 and much later became the Maxey Community Center. This is where the Orange County Community Action Division provides assistance in many areas for the elderly, children and the under privileged. I saw programs listed that assist with vocational training, education and assistance with job placement. I also saw that there was an office for assisting with energy bills and a nice big activity room that was actively hosting an exercise class. I was there to pick up meals to deliver for Meals on Wheels. It's a new volunteer effort of mine and one of the awesome programs running out of this center.

Don't go in expecting anything fancy, but you can definitely count on a fun atmosphere and good vibes. The bingo crew was fabulous and loved seeing the groups of people having a great time. There's a bar on-site, and they serve food too. I tried the dumplings, and they were a great choice! I have not being to any other events so I can't speak about that.
