I didn't get the pho, but had the grilled chicken over rice. It was just 4 slices of varying cuts of chicken and the veggies were very few too (please refer to attached photo). The others in the group voiced similar opinions of disappointment with their orders in terms of portion amounts. We are used to ordering Vietnamese and Doan's fell short of expectations for food and taste. Service was so-so. The waitress who took our orders did not seem to understand English so well. And the waiter who served did not know who ordered what. The ambiance was relaxed. Maybe it was the time that we went. Overall this was a disappointment. I will not be planning a return. Top tier pho, you feel the density of the broth, it's not watery, with rich flavor holding all the ingredients together, pairing beautifully with the soft thin brisket. Touches of mint and bean sprouts, and if you add the homemade spicy sauce it goes beyond. They are busy, so sometimes the service might feel rushed but don't worry they are still caring. Cozy and quaint spot. I ordered the eye round beef and brisket pho (beef on the side) -- it was okay but lacked a bit of depth and flavor. This is a small bowl which I felt was on the pricier end. Ive been here a handful of times. The service and staff met expectations. I noticed that the atmosphere inside was quiet despite being there at 2:30p on a Saturday afternoon. As always the food is always fresh, full of flavor, and filling. I ordered shrimp summer rolls, which are brought out with peanut sauce. I had the great pleasure to dine at Doan's during a recent visit to Charlotte. Our friends dine her often and told me it was amazing, however as I have styled myself as a pho connoisseur I was skeptical. Luckily my skepticism was solidly, completely, entirely unfounded. The menu is extensive and has an entire vegetarian section which includes dishes such as spicy lemongrass tofu (delicious) and vegetable rice noodle soup (VERY YES). We tried both, and I was truly flabbergasted by the soup. The broth is incredibly complex and flavorful, and the addition of cauliflower to the typical veggies was a welcome surprise. The serving size of the soup is generous; those of us who ordered it were able to finish our bowls and were very satisfied. The inside is cozy, the servers are efficient and patient, and the pricing is quite reasonable for the quality and quantity. Doan's - if you're ever looking to open up a second location, I hear Louisville is a good place to be. read more

After many years of hearing about Doan's and reading my friends' Yelp reviews, I finally made it. Sadly, the quality has declined over the years, and I'm not sure I'll take another chance. I called to place a pick-up order for vegetarian Spring Rolls and Tofu Pad Thai. The order was ready pretty quickly after I arrived and paid. I was disheartened to learn that there was a 10% service charge for takeout that wasn't mentioned via phone, but I thought if the food was as good as I'd heard, it may be worth it. The spring rolls were delicious. They were spot-on Vietnamese-style rolls, super flavorful and crispy. They made me anticipate how good the entree was going to be. Unfortunately, the Pad Thai was terrible. I know what you're thinking: this is a Vietnamese restaurant. Why did you order a Thai dish? 1) The reviews mentioned it was good, and 2) I have had some of the best Pad Thai of my life at a Vietnamese restaurant. Let me tell you where they went wrong: Pad Thai is generally a balanced Tamarind or Soy based sauce with al dente rice noodles, protein, egg and peanuts. That's it. This Pad Thai was chocked with bell peppers and broccoli over the traditional inclusions. I thought, "Oh, maybe I misread the menu, and this was only because I'd ordered tofu." NOPE. All their Pad Thai is served this way. The tamarind sauce was also overly sweet, and the noodles were soggy. These additions and poor execution ruined the flavor profile and made this dish impossible to eat, much less enjoy. I ordered a second lunch from Showmars via delivery that sat for 30 minutes and was better executed. I can't say I'll be back, especially since better Vietnamese food is nearby. read more

They are Doan's, Vietnam Grille, Saigon Palace and Crispy Bahn Mi. All of them are great! In the old days, I had to trek out to Central Avenue or Shamrock Drive to get excellent Vietnamese food. Now it's in my backyard! Doan's does a very good representation of Vietnamese cuisine. Their summer rolls are always fresh. Their spring rolls are always crunchy and not greasy. The vermicelli bowls (Bun) are served warm with lots of fresh herbs. The Pho is always great as well. The staff is friendly and helpful as well. Stopped in here for a quick to go lunch the other day. Had never noticed this restaurant before because it's tucked back in a mall off of South Boulevard and is hard to spot from the street. However, I was glad we stopped. We ended up ordering a Tom Yum soup, house, fried rice and a chicken and rice noodle dish. Over all I found the food to be very good and the portion sizes were pretty decent. The restaurant was pretty sparsely populated during the mid afternoon timeframe that we stopped by so we were served immediately at the counter in the back of the restaurant. I visited Doan's restaurant, and the waitress was incredibly rude. I requested a small bowl, but she rolled her eyes at me, nodded, and never brought it. She repeatedly checked on other tables while completely ignoring us. To make matters worse, she's the owner's daughter. If you're going to be in the service industry, learn how to service. My entire family has been visiting this establishment for years, and I have never encountered such disrespect from any other employees. My mom ordered the wonton soup, it was sour, she ate about a quarter of it (her fault) and throw up as soon as she got to the car. Both of our dishes were excessively salty. read more

I was craving Singapore Noodles, and I realized that I haven't been back here in 2-3 years. Well, I hit the place around 12:15 pm, and they seemed pretty busy. Although there were about 4-5 staff members running about, noone bothered to check the hostess stand...so after standing and waiting for about 10 minutes, I had to walk up to their new "To Go" station and demand to be seated. WTF?!? Never fails. The service is ALWAYS off here. As for the food, I ordered the Seafood Singapore Noodles...and as expected, it was really good...BUT! Their Shrimp wasn't properly cut, and I nearly choked on the tail (shells?). This was probably my first time experiencing this dish, where the Shrimp hasn't been properly cut. So wrong!! After nearly choking, I had to basically dig through the dish to cut off the Shrimp tails. The food is always solid here (minus a few misgivings...like the uncut Shrimp?)...but I've never been a fan of their lackluster service and the outdated ambiance. I also noticed that without any soundproofing (or overhead music), you can hear people (both staff members and the diners) talking loudly in a myriad of languages (American, Vietnamese, Chinese, Pakistanian, etc.etc.). So grating! And OH...no A/C again!! Overall, I didn't enjoy the experience here...and won't be running back here anytime soon. read more

My fave Viet spot in all of Charlotte! I may have tried a good 70% of the menu and have not had a dish I didn't like! The bun bo hue is always delicious. Egg rolls & summer rolls are perfect in flavor and texture. The rice noodle stir fry with seafood is a must! Their fried rice and pho never disappoints. If you're feeling adventurous, try some authentic dishes like the caramelized pork with rice - it's like a Viet style sweet teriyaki but with fish sauce instead of soy. I grew up eating this! I hate that they have fake Sirarcha but I guess that shortage is hitting hard. I also love their bun Bo hue. I don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu. I also love that their menu is so big so making a decision is hard The service sucks. They aren't good about greeting you and seating you in a timely manner. I feel like Covid made it worse. They definitely need to step up their game when it comes to customer service. I remember a while back, they would charge extra for to go orders just because of Covid.
