I've been wanting to come back here ever since trying their location next to Nordstrom. When looking for a lunch spot between river north and old town I was pleasantly surprised to see they also have a location next to Bloomingdales. The perfect lunch spot before a shopping spree in 900 N Michigan. Sadly I didn't have any time to shop before or after lunch, but just a tasty long lunch is an indulgence itself. I ordered one of the wok out bowls, which is exactly what I got when eating at the other location. It's so good that I'll want to get it again next time, but there are so many other amazing looking menu options. And the best thing I ordered was their sweet potato fries. I'll definitely get those again...and again. I'm thrilled they have 2 locations and hope to see more in the future; one in the North Shore would be super exciting. Hint hint doc. read more

This place is great on a sunny day. They've got outdoor sidewalk seating, and the they've got a huge hydraulic window that they open up so you that even if you're inside you can still get a nice breeze. I'm glad this place has moved into downtown where we need more reasonably-priced, delicious food options. What's good: Craig's Knuckle sandwich - it's their lobster roll. Loved every bite and was very fresh. Cajun Chicken club - also really good. The #1 Tuna sandwich - they mention that their tuna is flown in daily from Hawaii. Really enjoyed this one. Wok out bowls - it's a good amount of food, leaves you satisfied. And you feel healthy afterwards (if you get it with brown rice) The Gelato sandwiches - especially the strawberry/sugar cookie combo. It sounds like it would be too sweet but it isn't. What to skip: All the burgers. They're nothing special. And even our server didn't think they were worth mentioning when we asked her what was good on the menu. The Filet Mignon Sandwich - it was ok, but hard to eat; you really have to rip off each piece with your teeth to get a bite. The meat portion was also fairly small. Wish I could do a 3.5 star rating. I will start with the good. I really enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant. It feels very....Californian. Like if you imagine the cast of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills getting together for an afternoon brunch, this is the kind of place I would imagine. Modern decor, cloth napkins, fancy wineglasses, great music, indoor and sidewalk seating. I ordered the Number Six. Which is a spicy chicken sandwich with BBQ sauce, garlic spread, and pickles. I chose the sweet potato fries. The chicken itself was perfection. You could tell their chicken is fresh, all breast meat. The seasonings were spicy - which I loved - and the bbq mixed with the garlic spread added so much incredible flavor. I also LOVED the sweet potato fries. Also very fresh, handcut, crisped perfectly, and they have some sort of herb mixture sprinkled on top. When mixed with the honey mustard, it was just the perfect addition to the sandwich. The artisan roll was perfect as well. Again: fresh, soft, warm. What I did not enjoy as much was the service. It took 10 solid minutes before the waiter asked me for my drink order. When I got my food he did not check up on me once, and he also did not even provide his name when he first took my order. No bueno. The service and quantity has definitely gone downhill since I last visited about a year ago. I was excited to come back based on my first experience but the service was so poor this time (especially the hostess) that I will probably not go back to this location. Also, the portion size seems significantly smaller. The food is on the pricey side. I brought my sister who has a disability for lunch because I had a very positive first experience. My second experience was the exact opposite. There were lots of people at 1pm on a Friday. We were told the wait would be about 15 - 20 minutes. After putting my name on the list, we waited about 35 minutes and watched 3 groups go ahead of us. The hostess and people at the counter/cash register were not friendly. They glared at us, seemed to be talking about us, and seated us in the back of the restaurant. I wonder if they were discriminating because of my sister's disability. The review by Jessica P. said you can order while you wait. After waiting about 30 minutes, I asked the hostess if we could place our order so our food would be ready when our table was, and she said she could not do this since she did not know when we would be seated. She then told me to put my name on the list. I told her I already did, at which point she said we were next, and that the people at the table we would be seated at had paid and were leaving. (So she did know when we would be seated and she did not want to serve us.) After we were seated, we ordered the turkey burger with quinoa and the carnitas sandwich with fries. The service was fast - our food came out in about 10-15 minutes. The turkey burger was unfortunately extremely dry and not very flavorful. I did enjoy the quinoa salad which had mint in it and the carnitas sandwich (which looked more like a burger). The fries were ok. The carnitas sandwich was the best part of our experience. That and the fact that we shared the rest of our meal with a homeless man who was hungry. Overall, they are not very friendly to people with disabilities. I guess if you and your party do not have disabilities, this would not be an issue. Also, I mentioned this in the tips but the accessible entrance is very roundabout. You do not use their entrance, you use the one to the left of theirs. There is an elevator, which you take to the first floor. I was a hangry monster that wanted to find the closest place to eat, and this was a HEAVEN-SENT! The restaurant is in a great location and the wait was super quick! The menu options are great and reasonably priced! I picked the filet sandwich with kale salad, now it is one of my favorite sandwiches. It was cooked PERFECTLY! Super tender and flavor packed! The kale salad was also outstanding! The servers are friendly and it was not long of a wait for our food. All in all, great restaurant, great price-point, outstanding food. We agreed that the last guy on the list was generally a pretty standout guy known for his elan and moxie, and certainly someone we would turn to for an adventure. It's like the guy in grad school who told me he was going to grad school so he could buy a Lexus. Doc B's is that second-to-last guy. It's forgettable. It's tasteless. It's barely worth a review. I'd rather get one star than two, and they got two. Regarding the food, if you like fried chicken (which seems to be a featured item here), try Chick-fil-a down the street. Honestly. The chicken is far better and you'll drop all of $14. How this place gets 4.5 stars is just beyond comprehension. For the record: The Tennessee Hot Chicken was anything but hot and pretty greasy. The Crispy Chicken sandwich tasted like it came from a Schwann's Man truck (and was anything but crispy). One of two cookie ice cream sandwiches had a hard cookie, which means the ice cream pooped out the sides and all over my hands. I went to Doc B's my first night in Chicago as I was looking for a casual and close place to grab dinner. Upon entering, we were seated right away. It had a nice casual, but modern vibe. We started with the fire roasted artichoke appetizer which was delivered to our table hot out of the fire (seriously, it still had bits glowing from the flames). Once all of the embers had died down, we discovered that the artichoke was cooked perfectly and paired deliciously with a dipping sauce. I ordered the corned beef sandwich. It was no ordinary sandwich...served on a pretzel bun with coleslaw (which was tasty and I usually hate coleslaw), melted cheese, red onion and spicy brown mustard. Amazing! There was about 7 other people there...the prices are on par with an upscale restaurant in these parts. I am not so sure it is upscale like the way The allium at the four seasons is upscale but you could see that they are trying. I had the side of sweet potato fries. They were made with a side or bordelaise sauce which had a garlic flavor. I'm under no impression that it would have been healthier than regular fries but it was awesome... I'm a fan. A bit pricey, but what do you expect for Gold Coast? The food however is all high quality, unique, and very tasty so I don't mind splurging every now and then to get a fresh meal. This location always seems to be busy with in restaurant traffic and carry out orders. It's a lively atmosphere and a great crowd. My favorites here are the knife and fork Cobb. The dressing is tangy and slightly sweet and the cornbread croutons are pretty perfect. Other standouts here include the kale and Marcona almond salad and the wok out bowl. More like a 3.5 When I walked in, the huge glowing menu and counter with registers was confusing. I took several minutes to stand there and read the menu to decide what I wanted when the person behind the counter finally spoke up and asked me if this was to dine in or take away. I told we I was dining in and she told me I could sit and order from the table. Um, ok. That would've been good information several minutes ago. So much for a "host." So I was seated with a menu and a server approached me for my drink order. She came back with my bevvie and took my lunch order. Craig's knuckle sandwich came about 7 minutes later. It was good, not great. It needed salt and was too liquid-y. However, the roll held up and was buttery with the right balance of soft and crisp. They guy that brought it (and cleared it) was way nicer and more memorable than my server, taking the time to tell me to "enjoy Craig's knuckle sandwich" while looking me in the eye and smiling. I travel for a living and while there are lots of choices in downtown Chicago, I thought I'd try Docs after reading a few reviews on my go to 'Yelp'. Living in San Diego doesn't make me an expert on fish, I credit that to the hundreds of fish meals I've eaten over the years. That said, I ordered the the Wok Out Bowl with Noodles, Thai sauce and Salmon, exactly as my friendly knowledgeable server Jenna suggested. This dish covered all the bases but, the Salmon was the star... simply delicious. Perfectly seasoned and seared and served over a bowl of tasty veggies and noodles. Our waitress ALEXANDRA neglected our table that was 2 feet away (and in between) both of the other tables she was serving. We sat patiently as we saw her constantly going to the tables next to us back and forth asking if they needed anything/were ok. I'm not exaggerating when I say that once our food came out, she made it a point to not come near us. My friend and I are both Hispanic and we instantly felt discriminated by this waitress. Not only did she not come to our table to check on us but she would make eye contact, give us a look and move on to the tables next to us, who were Caucasian. Eventually, the only reachable person near us was a manager who we flagged down and asked for a refill on our waters and the check, merely because we could not stand being there anymore. Another waiter came by with that request. I put my friend's card and my card down on the bill and our waitress Alexandra came again, didn't say anything, and snatched the bill from our table. Usually waiters tend to ask how you want the bill split or if we're all good to go. NOPE, not at this place! Alexandra came back with our receipt, then proceeded to lift our plates from the table, WITH HALF OF OUR PIZZA LEFT ON IT, and said "oh are you still working on this?" What???!! I would've understood if she asked that before lifting our plate up but no, she didn't. We came visiting from California and this was #1 the worst thing we experienced here. Definitely treated differently than the other customers inside who were Caucasian. So once again, if you're a person of color, DO NOT COME HERE. And make sure you do not get Alexandra, she is extremely rude. If you're looking for a place to eat or catch a drink, I instead recommend going to Kings Sports Bar and Grill in Rosemont!! I had a very good time here! The location was very nice, the restaurant very clean and the food very tasty. We sat in the bar area near a window for a good people watching vantage point. We looked at the beer menu but unfortunately this is a weakness for this place I'd say. Only 2 draft beers available. Everything else is bottles and they didn't have many of those either. So not a great selection in terms of booze. The menu was a decent size with a big salad selection, as well as a big sandwich selection. There were also entrees such as bbq ribs and fish and chips. They had a little bit of everything including stir-fry dishes. I heard good things about the burger so I went with the Dragon Burger. This thing I must say, was beautiful. It was cooked perfect and tasted like it was freshly ground up and then cooked. The Dragon comes with giardiniera mix on top that was clearly home made, a pepper jack cheese and a habenero-honey reduction glaze. It was a very good burger and kind of tasted like an Italian Beef in a burger format. It was probably the giardiniera mix. I decided on sweet potato fries as my side and BOY am I glad I did. I have a hard time deciding what I liked more, the burger or the fries. They were huge fresh cut fries with salt and parmesan on them (and I am sure other seasonings). They also came with a honey dijon type of sauce to dip them in which was also delicious. My fiance got the Black Tiger Shrimp Salad (might be off a bit on the name) and she said it was good but not amazing. She mentioned that the salad would have been better if the shrimp was cooked hot, then layered on top. Besides the temperature, we loved the ambience and the bustling dinner crowd vibe. We ordered the Napa Burger, Backyard Burger, and the Cajun Chicken Club. My friend and I ordered the Napa burger to split, and they kindly plated it separately for us. The burger was very good (wish there was a bit more arugula), and everyone was very satisfied with their orders. Regular fries can be exchanged for sweet potato ones for no additional cost. Doc B's has a wide variety of menu options ranging from salads, to burgers, and even stir fry bowls. Our server was extremely attentive, offered great suggestions, and made for an overall positive experience. Since then, we've come back to grab drinks and snacks at the bar, and for dinner several times. I'm a sucker for their "Number Six" sandwich -- which is their take on the Wendy's spicy chicken sandwich. It's topped with honey on a buttered, toasted bun. I mean what more is there to say?! We made reservations here over Memorial Day Weekend. We arrived ten minutes early and were seated right at our reservation time. The ambiance was nice--neat artwork on the walls and light fixtures, but the TVs in the dining room kind of distracted from that. I couldn't tell 100% what vibe they were going for. The food was fantastic, though! My husband got the avocado pizza and I got the wok bowl with tofu and noodles. Portions were generous, leaving us satisfied without being over stuffed. The Matzoh Ball Soup was 100% vegetarian and 100% amazing. We would recommend this place to others and will probably be back the next time we are in town. read more

I found out that the same person who designed Roka Akor is the one who designed this place... so no wonder I loved the look of it! The guacamole and chip came with sweet potato chips which were light and a great touch to the guac - very addicting. The napa burger had avocado, arugula, and honey dijon - perfect combination... one of the best tasting burgers I've had! I didn't feel gross after eating it, and it was the perfect size burger. I was so sad when I went in this week and tried to order Bow Truss coffee, and the chef came out and said they stopped doing it, even though the breakfast menu was still up... The coffee was so good! The food that I've eaten so far has been so tasty! The best thing is the side of Kale slaw. It has fresh mint chopped up in there with a light dressing, and I could eat it for days. I also had the quinoa side and it was okay. I got the Tangled Noodle salad as well, with mango, avocado, mint, and tasty pieces of steak. It was such a surprise how good it was!
