06/28/26 Our first night in Chicago after driving from Omaha, so we didn't want to go too far from the hotel. The service was very friendly and we were seated promptly. I have to say, "winery" is a stretch. There are 3 red wines, 2 white wines, 1 rose, and a sparkling wine. That's it! I asked if this was the extent of their wine list and was told it was. We ordered a couple of Pinot Noirs which were served in plastic cups!! Such a let-down. The wine wasn't great and we left half the wine in the cups. The Margarita Flatbread and the Hot honey flatbread were good, although more like long thin crust pizzas. Flatbreads in the NJ/NY area are thinner still, crispier and not so pizza like. Hopefully we can find some wine in real wine glasses tonight. read more

I do not recommend city winery riverwalk. What a disappointment. The food is pricey so you expect it to be delicious. It is not. We had the crab cake special sandwiches. $33 each and were dry, small and didn't come with any sides. We told the waiter we weren't happy with the food and she said she would send her manager over. He never came. She comped one of our meals and offered us drinks but we don't drink. They did provide a dessert. For these prices you would also think they would have real silverware vs plastic. The staff was chit chatting and playing around creating a lot of extra noise and barely any checking in on us. So sad city winery had gone downhill. Were sneeringly informed that the kitchen was closed for an hour (it was 1pm on a Friday). No other information was offered. Great location on the riverwalk. They have a walkup window where you can order your drinks and then go sit out near the water on the riverwalk. Good vibes and great place to people watch! I love how it's also dog friendly so am able to bring my shih tzu :) read more

A cute little stop along the riverwalk for a quick bite or drink. I was on a mom trip to Chicago so was able to take my time, have a drink, and relax without having to worry about my kids falling into the river. When we landed in Chicago, our first stop was to Riverwalk. It's beautiful to walk by the river. We found city winery had just opened. We snagged a table outside. The young lady helping checked in on us regularly. We got a bottle of rose and a charcuterie board. The rose was crisp and delicious. The charcuterie board was yummy. We enjoyed so much that we decided to order the labneh- Greek yogurt. This was absolutely delicious- so much so that we took our leftovers and eat it the next day- we only wished we had more pita to eat the next day! lol. Today's hostess was beyond rude as I was requesting a table that was preferred for our strollers she cut me off and rudely told me to stop, then proceeded to make rude facial expressions (rolling eyes, etc. ) this was quite unfortunate because the rest of the staff was so nice and very prompt. I'd highly recommend retraining hostess staff or vet the behavior of what should be the first interaction of your dining experience. This is the first ever below 4 star rating I've ever given and even then I have to give at least a 2 because the food was decent, beverages were good and other staff was awesome. Ambiance was also great but it felt tainted because of the mood that was set from the start. read more

Enzo was one of the friendliest servers and made us feel like locals despite being far from it, he went above and beyond. We stopped here because I had a $25 off an order over $50 through the In Kind app. Our bill was $61.46 before tax and tip. The pizza crest was some of the best I've ever had. The drinks were strong. Prices are pretty high, but it is a great view from your table. All the seating is open air. They tried to sit us in an uncovered table area, but it had just been raining so we asked to sit under the awning. I would only be back if I had another incentive. read more

I would give this place five stars just for the view alone! We had a reservation, but when we arrived, the hostess seated us at a table right by the door where people were walking back and forth. We asked to be moved to a preferred table, and while she did accommodate us, she had a bit of an attitude about it. I just didn't want to sit with my back to all the foot traffic. Unlike the brick-and-mortar location, this spot doesn't offer wine flights, and they serve wine in plastic cups. However, our waiter was kind enough to let us sample the wines before we made our selections, which was a nice touch. It did take him a while to come back and take our food orders, as he thought we were going to leave. When my shrimp tacos and side salad arrived, my friend's side salad and only had the spring mix--none of the other toppings it was supposed to include. The waiter quickly resolved it by bringing the toppings in small cups. The food was delicious, and the tacos were great, but I will say I was still a little hungry afterward. I'm not usually one to leave a review but this one warrants it because of a very negative experience we just had at your establishment, the City Winery Riverwalk in Chicago. My family is in town visiting from Arizona and I made a reservation to take my parents to drinks on the river before our dinner reservation afterwards - we were looking forward to it. Things started off well, we got seated on time right next to the entrance. We ordered drinks and the waitress asked if we wanted any food.  We asked for more time, looked at the menu and decided against spoiling our appetite. When the waitress came back again to ask if we wanted anything we politely said no thank you and that's when things went south. To our surprise, our waitress rudely informed us that in order to sit at a table we had to order food. I said that it didn't say anywhere upon booking, checking in, or on the drink menu that this was the case. The waitress seemed pretty hostile and combative as she asked us if we wanted to close out because we weren't going to be ordering food - after we had just gotten our drinks. What happened next was even more unprofessional and disappointing - the waitress went and said something to the host who then came to our table and said "we forgot to tell you when you checked in but you're only allowed 60 minutes for your reservation" - which obviously seemed made up, and a misrepresentation of the reservation since it again didn't say anything on Resy, or our menus. I live in Chicago and was a regular patron of City Winery, even planning corporate functions here.  But unfortunately because of this very negative experience, I will not be returning again, and I will be encouraging everyone I know to do the same and take their business elsewhere. Overall a very unprofessional, rude, and disappointing hospitality experience. Hopefully this matter is taken seriously and City Winery wants to do better in the future. read more

City Winery is my go-to spot on summer Sundays. The outdoor seating right by the river is perfect, and there are even stairs where people can sit. Sometimes yachts and boats are docked nearby, adding to the great view of the river and the iconic corn cob(also know as the Marina Towers)building. They have a fantastic wine selection, and this time, my friends and I shared a couple of rounds of rosé -- I might as well have ordered the bottle! Dined in the casual part of the restaurant/bar where you order food at the cashier and everything is self service. I ordered the kale caesar salad, I asked for extra virgin olive oil on the side. The girl who put my salad together says to me they don't have EVOO, I said WHAT? In shocked to know how a restaurant in 2024 does not have olive oil-I said to her "who doesn't olive oil on their kitchen, I was like that is weird. She goes we have canola oil, the last type oil I want to put into my body. I even tipped on my order as well, thinking I was going to get my EVOO on the side-like I requested with then gentlemen who took my order. Very rude if you ask me. This is an outdoor place on the Riverwalk in downtown Chicago. We sat right by the water front and enjoyed some Rose and some shareable items. One of my favorite parts of my weekend trip to Chicago was exploring the Riverwalk and hanging out here at City Winery. Food/Drinks: Didn't try the food as were went just fir drinks so can't speak on that. Got two bottles of wine that our group enjoyed though so can say we liked their options. Service: You can either get seated at a table or hang out at the bar area and sit at some small bar tables/stools. We had a large group but they were fine with us pushing some tables together. If you sit outside, you go up to the bar and order; simple enough. Ambiance: By incredible luck, we had amazing Chicago weather during our trip so sitting outside with some wine on a late Saturday afternoon next to the river was a complete vibe. Food: I had the kale salad with chicken. Great flavors with the cheese and chili oil but it had a little too much of chili oil which made the salad become salty. Service: The service was subpar, it just didn't seem they knew what was going on. We're the first ones to walk in when it opens and already there's no charcuterie board bc kitchen was "kookoo". The rest of it was just awkward, another table that sat after us got their food first and then the server just let us know that our food is up just backed up in kitchen, but I didn't understand as we were the first ones to arrive. Just the etiquette wasn't there Ambiance: it's outdoors but can be indoors. You're right by the water on the river walk so it's a great view to sit and enjoy.
