    Italian night in Mexico
    Haley S.

One of the best meals we had while we were on vacation! The staff were so friendly and had great recommendations. There was live music playing, and the ambience was great! We went on a Friday night so it was right by the street art fair, so it was the perfect post-dinner activity. We started out with the burrata and house bread. Highly recommend the short rib ravioli, lasagna, and the penne vodka for mains. We got the Sauvignon Blanc from Venice as well--a great balance of sweet and dry! If you're looking to switch it up while you're in Mexico, this is a must-try!!

My wife and I have talked about this place for a couple of years and we never have the night align to where we can stop by since it closes early by Cabo standards. We really wanted to just see what type of wine experience a place has that calls itself a Wine Bar. For us, being from California, we consider a wine bar to be a place where there are several options for tasting, an environment that endears itself to a social gathering while enjoying wine and a great bartender who can help with choices. In Cabo, there really aren't more than maybe 2-3 places that fit this bill so we kind of know what to expect. To start with, the bartender was very nice and engaging. The bar is in the back and is quite small but it was clean and did the trick. They really are overly limited by their choices in terms of wines by the glass when you consider how many different kinds of wines there are out there. We made the best of it and my wife also sampled one of their small plates which was good. We stayed for about 45 minutes and then moved on. I think all-in-all, it is more designed for a sit-down dining experience than for people who are looking for a wine tasting destination which is not a bad thing at all. It just wasn't our jam.

We ate at Doc Wine Bar today because of the good reviews we saw. When we got there, the restaurant was completely empty. That should have been a warning sign for us. The menu was quite limited compared to other restaurants, and the pastas were only okay. I had the DOC pasta which was really bland and too much cream. The worst part was when we paid, they kept telling us that the price does not include tip and asks if we want to add a tip. We added a 12% tip as customary in Mexico, and the waiter spoke something in Spanish to the lady holding the card reader. Then he told us how much our tip was in USD, and told us we should tip more. That was extremely rude because tip is supposed to be based on how good your service is, not based on how much you think we should pay you. Do yourself a service and eat somewhere else with actual customers.

We first heard about this restaurant in June & went for my friend's bday. We had wonderful service & the chef is 5 stars!! Needless to say when we came here in October for my birthday we had to make my special dinner there. They did not disappoint!! The chef sent out a special appetizer on the house and after our fantastic dinner, the bar tender put on a special presentation with fire and a tower of glasses and served us a hot shot! Over the top!!! If you are looking for a place to have a great dinner for a special occasion or just because you want to experience the perfection of Desierto Azul, I highly recommend it. We ordered the guacamole with fried rib eye (chicharrones) and it was amazingggg. So tender and delicious. For entrees two of us split the tomahawk. We highly recommend! They serve it tequila flambé at the table! And we asked for medium rare which they cooked perfectly. The other two had the fish of the day and octopus tostadas which they loved. Their margaritas (Cadillac) were fantastic as well. Overall we were really happy with the food and service. We were too full for dessert but will definitely be coming back next year!

The Habanero linguine is the thing to get here though! Wow! Our friends also had the lobster risotto. I added some anchovies to the lobster risotto & really set it off. The ravioli they gave each person, before the main meal comes out, is amazing! The signature cocktails were really light. Couldn't taste any alcohol. So consider that, depending on your preference. It was just me and my husband, but there were quite a few larger groups dining while we were here. The service is wonderful. We had two main waiters, both of whom were kind, attentive, and made us feel very welcome. The cocktails and the wine we ordered were wonderful. I really loved the cocktail we ordered! Our dining experience was nice, but the food we ordered was just okay. I wouldn't call it some of the best of Cabo. Of our six dinners in Cabo, I would say it was probably our second to least favorite. But, that's not saying it was bad! It just wasn't on par with the other restaurants we dined at. First, I told the restaurant both when I made the reservation and when two different people at the restaurant inquired about food restrictions that I could not have cheese. The first thing served to us - an amuse bouche - was heavy on the cheese. It was a rather large ravioli, which was much larger than a normal amuse bouche -- and it had cheese inside the ravioli, a cheesy sauce, and cheese grated on top. So I could not eat a bite of it. My husband said it was just okay. The best thing we ordered here was the aguachile. It was beautiful, colorful, artfully presented, and absolutely delicious. So fresh, and well prepared. Loved it! Our main courses, however, were a little disappointing. They tasted fine, but ate more like the kind of main course you would order at a chain Italian restaurant in the US: heavy, chewy, and generic. But my personal saddest moment was when the churros arrived. I love churros, so very much. These looked beautiful, but when my husband and I cut into ours, they were all raw on the inside. So the flavor outside was delicious but we couldn't eat more than the ends of the churros. Overall, I enjoyed the experience of dining at Casa Martin... I just wish the food was better. I am hoping it was just an off night, and I look forward to revisiting this restaurant on a future visit to Cabo and hopefully having a better meal (but the aguachile was seriously so good - order that!).
