16 of us went to the pub and made reservations. There was one waitress and she was very good. She served us all. She first served us all Diet Coke instead of iced tea. There were 4 of us at the table and the drinks were quickly replaced. I ordered the kid size Hawaiian pizza and got the medium size instead as I having a big dinner so wanted something small. One on our table ordered the beef dip. It looked good and the patron said it was fine. It appears a little light in the meat side. Didn't come with horse radish which is a personal choice. Most likely you could have asked for it and they would have delivered it. The iced tea was refreshed as needed. It was a nice place and the views were great as it is right on the lake. It was a pub style and had a few stuffed animals and birds giving it that rustic feeling. read more

If you are staying in town, do not forget to grab something to have in your hotel room. The little grocery store has everything!! There is not many options for a meal in Balfour hence we had a meal here. Lesson learned. Our server was nice enough but made sure every sentence ended with " we are closing Sunday so not much here", which is understandable but a one time statement will suffice. We had the seafood pasta ($27) and the 2 piece fish ($38 ) and chips. 2 drinks ($6.50 per) each and a cup of coffee( a whopping $3.50 per) For $38 Fish and Chips we were expecting amazing, not Captain HiLiner. This was definitely straight off the Sysco truck. The seafood lasagna had about 2 oz of salmon and maybe 8 very small shrimp (the kind soaked in salt water and frozen). In town for the night while on a cycle trip. There aren't many options in Balfour so we threw a dart and decided to have dinner at the Dock 'N' Duck. To save a bit we decided to share a 'Loaded Pizza'. The pizza was loaded with toppings and cheese but oddly the cheese didn't stick to the pizza. It just slid off in a slab. Maybe due to very heavy load of sauce. At any rate the pizza was delivered cold as was the pizza order at the table next to us. They sent theirs back which added another 10 minutes for them. Service was friendly but slow and I had to keep asking for refills. We decided to get desert as we saw some pics here on Yelp that we hoped would redeem the experience. We were going for the chocolate cheesecake which is on the regular menu. They were out of it and had strawberry cheesecake instead, which is not on the menu. We decided to instead try the Mango Mousse Cake. Although it was very good it was still mostly frozen. So unfortunately no redemption on the meal or experience. Not sure what the few other places are like here but we'd definitely try one of them first next time or drive to Nelson instead. read more

While the cuisine isn't terribly adventurous, we came for beers and poutine and a lake view. We weren't disappointed on any of those fronts. Our kiddo enjoyed the beach just off the deck too. While visiting in Balfour BC we stopped in for a quick lunch. Great little patio overlooking the lake with nice views... but that's where the good ends. Service was slow, and I waited about 10-15 minutes before going inside to get menus, following the lead of another table. Food was not good, and prices were outrageous for what you got. The poutine uses shredded cheddar-mozzarella mix, and fries were not crisp. Grilled cheese sandwich was over stuffed with cheese which was shredded, not sliced, same mix that was on the poutine. Pita wrap was okay, but I chose the side soup which was terrible, had to send it back. I will say that the vanilla ice cream sundae was actually pretty good, great vanilla bean ice cream and tasty waffle bowl. Drinks were okay, but the lime garnishes were old and spent. read more

Dock N Duck was a good place to pull over and have some breakfast prior to getting in line to take the ferry across Kootenay Lake. They had just started serving breakfast and was previously a pub and grill only open for lunch and dinner. The dining area for breakfast was quite small and pretty packed. They also have a few tables that are outside. Had the "classic" Eggs Benedict with hash browns and was quite good. I don't know if this is a normal Canadian thing or if it was their twist on the classic, but the egg was poached and not over easy as I have found in the States. Hash browns were not the shredded, but the cut into squares. The hash browns could have used a bit more seasoning, but that's my particular taste. Service was friendly and with a smile. If not wanting to grab a bite on the ferry, this would be a good alternative. read more

We ordered takeout (pizza), my hubby picked it up. He should have checked it there but he drove the 5 mins home and I opened the box. I had to put it in the oven because it was cold and 4 pieces were burnt. Hubby called and talked to the manager, told him the issues and he said okay I'll let the cook know. We won't go back, pizza wasn't good and ended up throwing most of it out. It's a shame thw food and service wasn't better, they're losing a good opportunity to make this place better and they don't seem to care. We weren't offered a refund or fire up another pizza for us, won't go back. read more

Food was excellent for the most parts, with delicious black ribs, beef burgers, & potato wedges. Very nice views of the Kootenay Lake. Services are great. The prices are OK, about 25 CAD for one full order of black ribs and 17 CAD for one half order. read more

The Dock as gone downhill big time! Food is adequate but way to expensive for a local to eat and have meal of good taste and value. Ownership wonders why they have no local loyal customer base, look at the high priced menu !!! Spent time in New Zealand last year where food prices are very high to eat out, but you can still get fish & chips of good quality for $10.00 anywhere, not $18.95 at Dockers. There was a day where you could go to a Pub and have good food at a reasonable price and sip a cool beer, not at Dockers unless you want to spend. Not a lot of choices in this town, so this is where we ended up for dinner. Got seated immediately, with a nice view of the water. Waiter brought over waters and menus pretty much as soon as we were seated. Lots to choose from. Between the three of us, we had a seafood chowder, a green salad, a caesar salad, the spaghetti bolognese, and the Mediterranean pasta. Everything was top-shelf, with the caesar and the chowder topping the list. Service was similarly good; our waiter, the tall one with the radio-voice, couldn't have been more attentive. My wife and I had dinner here recently on a Sunday evening. The pub was not busy, but service was attentive and fast. My wife ordered the pan seared rainbow trout which was excellent with few bones. It came with sauteed vegetables and a side of potatoes. The potatoes were too spicy for her taste. I ordered the Carbonara pasta in rose sauce. This was very cheesy, but very good and came with a side of garlic toast. For dessert, my wife had the ice cream sundae which was so-so. I had the ice cream pie which was a generous serving and best shared. We enjoyed the dinner, the atmosphere, and watched the ferry come and go. Food was inexpensive. I would recommend trying this pub if visiting the area around Balfour. read more

Great fish and chips. The fish seems to be home made, and the chips from a bag. Coleslaw appeared to be hand made. Good atmosphere and prompt service. Home made chips and more attention to food sensitivities would make this a 5. In my travels, I've always seen french fries to be a common low point on fish and chips anywhere but the east coast. I've never had bad ones in the Maritimes, and rarely home made ones in Western Canada. read more

we were staying at the Ainsworth Hot Springs Resort and we were not very impressed by the food at the resort (nor were we impressed by the price) So, we went exploring and found a hidden treasure in the Dock N Duck Pub & Grill. Second visit here in three years. First time was routine, but had an hour to kill last weekend and tried the Cod fish and chips. The best I've had, and that includes plenty of pubs across England. Just reviewing after a one time stop to wet our whistle. Not impressed. No drink menu so just ordered a lemon drop each and received a thimble full of squeezed lemon juice (where's the alcohol??). I went to this place every year. Even saw it for sale and though could be a cool place. Good thing that inquirey didn't go to far. So excited to return. I ordered a mojito and was better than remembered until I ordered my take and out the waitress never returned until it was ready with the bill. Sat there ignored for 20 mins. Decided to give a second chance for a lil date before we left the area. Ordered a greek salad and mixed it up as per usual bit down and broke my tooth on a olive pit and lost the tooth. Called back to suggest kamata olives without the pits. She asked me where I was calling from I replied and she said good luck with my lil town and tooth very rudely.
