Been seeing Dr. Kawakami & now the Nurse Practitioner Sarah for a few years now. Since I rarely get sick I only come in once a year for my annual full physical. Their staff is always friendly & helpful and the doctor has helped me before on refilling my prescription off hours. On the negative side, whether I choose the first appointment or the last of the day there is always a wait (and this is with an appointment). They are always busy and it's hard to get appointments on short notice. Also, it's been twice now that I have gotten ultrasounds to find out if I have cyst and/or fibroids and both times they have not called me or sent me a letter with my results at all. Both times I was told my bad news only during my annual exam months later. They need to get their act together and inform their patients. It would be much appreciated. read more

Snarky troll of a receptionist!!! Beware!!!! ive delt with her twice now and both times she exudes negativity that even her office staff cant stand to be around! The first time we had an appointment we hadn't changed the dr to the office right away. We got on the phone while waiting for our appointment and tried to rush it while at the office. Although we had it approved by the insurance, it was the offices choice to see my daughter that day. The Bill would have been taken care of regardless. Little Miss Snarky troll She gets all uppity and forces another appointment pushing us back a week and forcing my husband to take another day off from work . The second time. We arrive less then 5 mins late for our appointment and 'The troll' tries to turn us away forcing us to make another appointment. Then gives me crap about the primary paper work which needs to be filled out saying how we should have had it done before arriving to the offices. Without a clip board i try to finish the paper work with a screaming 1 year old as fast as i can. The troll graciously and soooo accommodatingly offers me one after some time. I sat waiting for our appointment wondering if shes just a terrible person. Realizing every patient that was white or non hispanic, were getting the same attitude from her. Even my husband whos of hispanic decent, laughed noticing her badly hidden racism . The nursing staff were sweet and bubbly ... Once you get past the Troll the experience was really pleasant. The drs assistant was thorough and kind. even after my daughter pee'd on her lol. When closing our appointment, i requested a drs note from them for my husbands work. Its there that i noticed the staffs distain for her aswell One nurse was already writing the note and printing it when i asked the troll for one. And the troll snapped back with some more snarky crap about a drs note "im just gonna put.." In her little power tone...I didnt care to hear her. The other staff member hands me the paper and storms past the troll saying nothing. (Laughs) She didnt ask if i needed to make any follow up appointments for her either that i thought weird. But i doubt i feel the need to go back there. Its a shame though, because it would have been nice to have a family dr that could care for our whole family. All to be simply blocked by one crappy person with a power trip, chip on her shoulder. read more

The girls in the front are awlys friendly, polite & helpful. My son had a really bad stomach ache, the gave him a same day appointment, the Dr. saw him in a timely matter gave him a Rx for a stomach flu that got him better in 2 days. Very good office! read more

Was surprised when I read the other reviews. Dr K gets it done. She listens and truest wants to help me feel better. She has been honest and a straight shooter about what's going on with me. Love her and the office. If you have problems tell her - don't blast her on Yelp. Could be a one time situation but my experience with her has been outstanding. read more

OK.. So im in a rut! The good .. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Dr. Sara. I have referred 5 of my employees to her and they love her as well. She is VERY thorough. We went for just a simple procedure at a local urgent care and she asked about everything else as if she was seriously concerned. She has convinced my boyfriend with diabetes to see her regularly (prior to her, he hadnt seen a doctor in over a year!!) Call today, your in tomorrow. Do they need to refer you? they will find a specialist who takes your insurance and save you the leg work. Need to run in for a quick visit, Your always welcomed!! I hear Kawakami is a really good physician as well. Thes doctors know their stuff! The bad.. Most of the front desk staff is extremely patient and friendly. But there are about 2 that needs work on their people skills. They do not take any other form of payments but cash (as if were still in the 90's). PLEASE make sure you cancel within 24 hrs even if your appt is on Monday, they want you leave a message. Overall, if you need a good physican, you have CASH, time to spare, and patience for obscene policies. This is your place ....... To add... Had to deal with Dr. Kawakami for the first time and she's just as great as Dr Sara... We went out of town and my BF had a medical emergency with an RX.. We called and left a message on Saturday (they are closed on the weekends) and in less than an hour Dr K had a Rx waiting for us. Raising my number of stars. I'm one who can take the bad with the good.. The DOCTOR is what I value more. I can deal with bad service.. These are awesome physicians! read more

Not friendly not welcome mean like you expect a reception is to be .When you call that you're sick and you need to see the doctor they say no it goes by appointment even if it's an emergency that's ridiculous even with good Insurance they won't see you. read more

I'm a relatively new patient of Dr. Kawakami's but I must say that the times that I have interacted with the doctor and her staff have always been a pleasant experience. The doctor and her staff are very helpful and caring. They followed up with me each time I called and made sure my medical needs were met and left me feeling like they care about their patients. The office is nice and clean, appointment wait time is short, and her staff are efficient and very nice. read more

I've had pretty mediocre visits with Dr. Kawakami. Nothing stands out really but she often charges/bills for services that are unnecessary and not covered by insurance, which was one of the reasons I left. And she only takes cash. My worst visit was she had a resident do an unnecessary invasive procedure on me. It was painful and unnecessary and she kept pressuring me and my mom to get it done during my physical. I did not have any risk factors that would indicate a need for it and when asked why I needed to get it, she came up with (what I later learned) false reasons, which I did not know at the time and believed and trusted her. Also, similar to other comments on here, the front desk often charges for co-pays that my insurance covers and refuse to reimburse me! Instead they force me to submit claims to my insurance company, which takes weeks! All in all, I think I'll go back to my MD. Dr. Kawakami is not a D.O. I would trust! read more

I went to see Dr K again this week unexpectedly and Esparanza got me in immediately and without issue and after seeing the doctor she made sure that I had all the necessary paper work I needed and made sure that I had everything I needed for my follow-up. She made a unpleasant situation bearable and was encouraging and professional. She is a huge asset to the office and I am so grateful for her kindness and patience read more

After two years, and having our family and my sister's family all change to this office, I am calling it quits. My sister stopped coming after a few visits, I should've listened to her and switch at that time, but I like Dr. Sarah. She was the only reason why I put up with for so long. The wait at this office is terrible, whenever we made appointments we added an additional hour to our time because that's how long they take. Including early morning visits. $20 copay, cash only. That was never an issue for me until I realized that they were charging us copays that our insurance CLEARLY states we did not have to pay. The office manager, Michelle I believe her name was, would not refund us the money. After I told her I had my insurance company on the line telling me not to pay. We had to file claims with our insurance to get reimbursed for the copays, which takes weeks to process. We had to do extra work to get back the money this office would take from us. But we had to give them hard cold cash upfront if we wanted to be seen. My recommendation, stay away! Healthcare is expensive, if you have insurance do your research and find an office that is worth the cost. I refuse to continue to pay for mediocre care with a luxury price tag. read more

Have been a patient here for a very long time and I am finally fed up. Dr. Kawakami is horrible. She does not care about her patients, she's rude, rushes you out as soon as possible, and will lie to your face. When Dr. Sarah was there it was worth the hassle but since she's no longer there it not worth the headache. She sends over the wrong medication and then have to call back 3 times to try to get her to send over the correct one and have it be promised to be sent by the end of the day to only call the pharmacy to find they still haven't gotten a response. I will find a new doctor and be filling a complaint with my insurance. Stay away from here if you want to be treated like a human being and not just a walking pay check for the staff and doctors. read more

i have seen all the bad reviews for this doctors office and i totally agree. how can you offer someone who has been sick for 2 days a visit on Tuesday after the long weekend when they call at 10:50am on Friday? "we are done seeing patients for today" that is some horseshit! This is not the first time this has happened either. i need to find a new doctor in my area that is a little more compassion for sick patients and has better scheduling. Front office staff is rude, unprofessional and yes, they do over charge and give you the run around and wont give you a refund! they also do not communicate well with each other. I was a patient here with dr. kawakami and her staff told me that my blood work was going to be covered 100% and that I was not going to pay my lab work because my insurance covers 100% And that Quest Diagnostic was going to send me two statements and they were not going to bug me anymore but apparently they give you false information and now I'm stuck with an a statement of $50 that I have to pay out of pocket that my insurance is not covering. read more

I have been going to Dr Kawakami for ten years and I am very pleased with the level of care I have received. The quality of service has always been high but has also has improved markedly over the years - this may be associated with the fact that she has engaged a number of fine younger doctors, mostly women, to serve in her office. Generally, after I have been seen by one of the staff physicians, Dr Kawakami herself pops in to speak to me and check that I am receiving the care I need. The doctors listen to my complaints and pay attention to what I say, unlike some doctors who assume that a patient cannot possibly have any idea what is going on inside his or her body. I am particularly pleased that when I call with an urgent problem, the office staff always makes an effort to see me as soon as possible, often on the same day. I highly recommend Dr Kawakami's practice. read more
