This is a review of the two women working the front desk only. I didn't end up receiving care here,…read moreso I don't know anything about the quality of their services. While I was walking to a Capitola restaurant, someone's pet pit bull lunged at and bit me through my shirt and ended up making two puncture wounds in my chest. I was alone and didn't know the area, so I looked up the nearest urgent care, which happened to be Dominican Urgent Care. I wasn't in a lot of pain, but I was in shock, and I had no idea how quickly it was necessary to see a doctor after a dog bite. I drove a little faster than I normally do, especially once I got to the parking lot. I quickly parked and walked into the urgent care with oozing blood still making the stain on my shirt bigger. There were two women at the front desk, and when I said that I had been bitten by a dog, one of them asked me for my insurance. I told her I had Kaiser and that I knew this place wasn't a Kaiser facility, but I was from out of town and didn't know where the closest Kaiser was. I also knew that Kaiser would reimburse for emergency healthcare until stabilization no matter where it is performed, plus I knew that if there wasn't a local Kaiser, they would reimburse me for the entire bill. The other woman told me that if I paid out of pocket, the bill might be more than $1000, depending on what treatment I received. In my head, I was ready to fill out the paperwork and be seen by the doctor. I told them that I understood, and then the first woman said that Kaiser might not pay for anything if I knowingly got treated here without going to the closest Kaiser. I was annoyed by the tone of both their voices. Wasn't this the most American experience ever? I had just had a terrifying experience that caused a potentially serious injury, and the two nurses at an urgent-care facility were clearly trying to get me to leave. Even if their financial advice was sound--and it was--they could have treated me more like a patient than an unwanted pest. Exasperated, I asked them if they knew where the closest Kaiser was. One of them told me there was a Kaiser urgent care in Scotts Valley, and when I asked how far away that was, she kind of rolled her eyes and said it wasn't that far and that I should try that place. Again, perfectly reasonable advice, but I could do without the attitude. Plus, I had no idea whether adding twenty more minutes to my waiting time could be detrimental to my health. I didn't think it was an emergency situation, but I also have no medical training. These two women had medical training, but they neither made me feel at ease, nor did they reassure me in any way that taking more time to drive to Kaiser was the *medically* preferable option. I ended up going to the Scotts Valley Kaiser, and everything turned out fine, but Dominican Urgent Care was the first healthcare facility I visited after a traumatic event that injured me, and people here didn't give me relief, not even any peace of mind.

I am beyond disappointed with my experience at Family Medicine. As a teacher, I had to arrange…read morecoverage for my classroom just to make this appointment to discuss a very sensitive medical matter, only to have my time completely devalued by the staff. The Check-In Failure: The upstairs office has no staff and requires phone check-in. The signage states that if you haven't been called 10 minutes after checking in, you should go downstairs. My appointment was at 2:50 PM; I was proactive and went downstairs at 2:54 PM to ensure everything was correct. The staff downstairs confirmed the digital system failed but said they "fixed it." Unprofessional Conduct (Evelynn H.): When I returned upstairs, a Medical Assistant named Evelynn H. called me from down the hall and walked far ahead of me. Instead of an exam room, she brought me into a tiny room with a curtain where I was essentially scolded. She told me that because I was "late," the doctor would have limited time or I would need to reschedule. When I explained I was on time and followed protocol, she was extremely rude and lacked any empathy, dismissively stating I was "late regardless" before snapping the curtain shut. When she finally brought me back to a room as one of the pre-questions for the doctor, she asked if there was spousal abuse at home--a shocking and jarring question (which I've never been asked before) be asked after such a hostile beginning which is strange when I was there specifically for pregnancy/fertility issues. The Result: Despite the lecture about the doctor being "busy," I sat alone for 25 minutes after my appointment start time. When I finally saw the doctor, she was nice enough, but after only 5 minutes, she told me that was all the information she had for me. It turns out that me being "late" didn't even matter for the length of the visit, making Evelynn's earlier rudeness even more unnecessary and hurtful. I left in tears.

I've never been in so much pain and treated so poorly! Then after seeing the doctor who ordered pain meds and X-rays. Sent me next door to await some pain meds. That nurse said don't sit there and pointed across the way. Once seated she said you can come back or just sit there that's fine as she rolled her eyes and made a sye- UGH!!!

So PAMF is all I can get for docs given my location and insurance (Aetna - no choice there either)…read more I have had dr coulson in Scott's valley as my PCP for over a decade, I think, since he replace dr conroy. Over the years. I have come to detest more things about PAMF than I benefit from. But my aetna insurance limits me to be pamf. I am 63 and spend about 15k a year for my insurance. 10k premiums and 5k deductible. PAMF has lots of specialists but getting to see one is nearly impossible because... 1) Dr coulson has to see me first and he always makes me wait a few visits with him before granting a referral. 2) if I have not reached my $5k deductible with Aetna, visits to PAMF can run $450 per. This rules out visits for many things I really need help with. Especially mental health... For $450, I will be fine. Except I am not. 3. The specialists wind up referring me to other specialists because they get the diagnosis wrong. I was scheduled for a hip replacement and the week before, they cancelled it because my insurance looked at the X-rays and said yeah that's bad but not that bad. Well it turns out I have sciatica. I cannot describe the pain I have been living with for over a year as PAMF refers and refers and refers. I had trigeminal neuralgia a few years ago. It took me years and many visits to convince the PAMF team to refer me to Stanford. Stanford found the location of my headaches right away and fixed them with only minor brain surgery. I should not have had to wait so long. The same thing happened to me husband, only he has a problem with his pancreas. He wound up at Stanford as well. I am now awaiting my visit to a spine doctor my PCP referred me to. That not until March 9. Meanwhile I have had to go to empowering hands for a leg massage and to five branches for acupuncture. Five Branches is great and cheap. Jake at empowering hands is wonderful but pricey. Still less costly than my insurance co pay.
