I have nothing but good things to say about Doctors On Duty in Aptos!!! It all begins with the staff answering's the phones. Whenever I call I never come across a snotty, unhappy person answering my call. All receptionists that answer are pleasant, knowledgeable and helpful. Something I really appreciate with this place is you can call and put your name on the waitlist if you are doing a walk-in and they will call you with 20 minutes prior to your name being called, which to me is a wonderful benefit if you have errands or are to ill to sit in a doctors office. The MA's Chris and Christina are extremely friendly, always smiling, make you feel comfortable and are very efficient with their duties. After seeing the MA's the wait time to see the doctor is between 5-10 minutes which is not very common in most visit I've experienced at my previous doctors office. The MD'S Karin Yien and Mik Joy are the most thorough and knowledgeable doctors. Both have wonderful bedside manners and are willing to find an alternative to any issues you have before prescribing you medication. To me this is a big thing!!! They helping prevent antibiotic resistant's. Dr. Joy was the first doctor I had seen in awhile. I had to get a physical for my new insurance. He was incredibly thorough when I requested a physical. He ran my blood, performed an annual check-up and made sure I was up to date on all my vaccines. He referred me to an eye doctor as well. He even helped me follow a diet plan to help lower my cholesterol. Overall wonderful. Dr. Yien I have been seeing now for about a year since Dr. Joy transferred to another office. Dr. Yien is incredibly sweet, always smiling and extremely intelligent. Even when I ask her "this might be a stupid question" she always replies there are no stupid questions. Dr. Yien and her NP Student Amanda saw my whole illness through that I have been fighting for the last three weeks. They instructed how to take my new medication for both my infections and told me other ways to help keep myself from losing all my good bacteria while taking my antibiotics. Both are wonderful too see and plan on seeing them until they leave or I have to leave. Dr. Yien and Amanda are amazing!!! After reading some of the posted reviews, I feel compelled to inform you all of the excellence portrayed by Doctor Karin Yien and her assigned staff: Briana, Almee, Yovani, Christina M, and Cristina G. - Dr. Yien exudes an exemplary concern for the ailments one is experiencing. This is an attention which automatically comforts one's mentality, and creates an expectation of healing. This is positively necessary that the HEAD (a definite pun intended) in charge might inform the ailing body parts that; we might be on the right track here. Dr. Yien is thorough and thoughtful, and inciteful enough to ascertain what of her incredulous and seemingly limitless bedside manner to use to instill trust and comfort to her patient. I went to Doctors on Duty for the first time having an ear infection. It's a routine diagnosis, even for me, but they confirmed my suspicion, got me in promptly, and gave me good treatment. The confirmation was unsurprising, but it's good to have a trained expert determine the exact nature of the infection, and precisely what antibiotic to dispense, and other recommendations. Everyone was totally professional, including Dr. Yien (whom I trust and like), the medical assistant (Chris), who politely came to explain a a slight delay based on an actual emergency elsewhere, and those working the front desk (Becky & Christine, if I remember their names correctly.) I don't have health insurance, but I wanted prompt care immediately (that very day!), and they did it well. The baseline cost for urgent care was about $207.00, and there were no add-ons. For me, it was totally worth it, because I enjoy hearing. The paperwork wasn't bad, typical must-know medical facts, family history, but fairly streamlined. The only reason I gave them 4 stars is due to the routine nature of the problem. I haven't seen them in real action! I'd give them 5 stars for routine. Wait, lemme change that to a 5! I signed up for yelp explicitly to give this review. When I started coming here it was because I slept all the time had chronic headaches, joint pain, numbness and the cut I had turned black with some white and didn't heal properly. Dr Shein immediately ordered all sorts of blood work and wanted to see me back as soon as possible. She spent about an hour and a half (I was the last person of the day) with me at that first appointment talking to me about all my symptoms, but what really impressed me was the follow up appointment. She went over all the lab results with me, not just what my problem was but all the negatives as well. She also talked to me about my symptoms and why she had ordered each test. I am still seeing her to insure that I continue to improve and it is nice to have that support rather then be told come back if you don't get better or worsen. She is a very nice person and extremely competent at her job; I would highly recommend Dr. Shein to anyone especially if you have very odd symptoms. She is the kind of doctor who will put in the time and effort to find out what's wrong and support you through the process. (to satisfy the curious I was dehydrated) read more

I had a medical issue a few weeks ago and visited a combination of the Doctors on Duty in Aptos, and in Santa Cruz. I initially met with Dr. Sheerwood and had my follow ups with Karin Yien and medical assistants Alysha, Jamie, and PA Gilbert. Dr. Yien had an especially wonderful bed side manner to make me feel at ease when I was in pain. She is very patient and compassionate. Since I had to go back for several follow ups, they were able to group the visits under the initial visit so I didn't have to pay an arm and a leg each time - it was very reasonably priced. In fact, I didn't want to go back for my final follow up, and Karin looked at me for no charge just because she cared and wanted to make sure I was all healed up. They are intelligent, friendly, and helpful there. I was afraid that the wait time was going to be awful and at both locations, I never waited more than 10-15 minutes at various times of the day - they have a great streamlined process there to cut down on waiting. I'm really impressed with the staff members at Doctor's on Duty! I was injured at work and was sent there to be seen. I was greeted by Briana...one of the most professional, knowledgeable, kind and caring receptionists you could want. My wait time was less than 10 min. (I had an appointment) I was taken to an exam room by Medical Assistant Christina. She's friendly and gets right to focusing on her job duties. Then I saw the PA Gilbert Aragon. He was attentive, professional, knowledgeable and an excellent listener! I have been there 5 times now and each time I have had the same experience as the first! I have also had blood work from Geovini....another fantastic medical assistant! Additionally, I have gone for a visit to the Santa Cruz office. A much busier and larger facility, but the staff were great! I would also like to say, how much I appreciate Erika's assistance and professional dealings with the Worker's Comp group. I have never been on WC and it's horrible! But, thank goodness for the medical staff at Doctor's on Duty! Otherwise... my whole experience would be a nightmare! read more

I just went into Doctors On Duty Aptos & thankfully there was hardly any wait, it was no time at all before I was seen by a doctor. Dr. Karin Yien saw me & she was great....very friendly, down to earth & kind. I was impressed with her & appreciated that she was knowledgeable in not only traditional medicine but also had knowledge of natural medicine as well on the natural side of things. It seems like most traditional doctors these days (especially in clinics like this) do not have much/any knowledge of the natural side of medicine but Dr. Yien did & I really valued that a lot. I went to Doctor's on Duty for a pesky and painful ear infection. Dr. Yien, Christine, and Yovani took special care of me. I was really impressed by how professional and attentive Dr. Yien was, even for something as minor as an ear infection. She took the time to answer my questions and when she learned that I was having difficulty finding a general care practitioner due to a sudden and unexpected change in my insurance policy, she even took a few extra minutes to answer other questions I had about my health. She made me feel very comfortable and did not rush me through the appointment, even though they were extremely busy that afternoon. I had to get a Covid test for traveling, the test needed to be no older that 72 hours from departure. On the day of my PCR covid test, I was informed that the lab was a little backed up (totally understandable with the situation right now) and the medical assistant who tested me, Gloria, helped make sure I was good to go! She told me to call the day before I left on my flight to find out the status of the test and get it emailed. When I called, the results were not back yet, so she helped make a plan and fit me in to get a rapid Covid test so I at least had something! Hopefully I will get my PCR results before I land, but at least now I have a "back up"! She was so helpful and kind even though all this happened on Thanksgiving!! read more

I love Dr. on Duty in Aptos. I am a former Kaiser Rn and patient. I was a little apprehensive about care outside of Kaiser after being in the system for over 10 years. I have to say I am very pleased with the care and attention I receive at Aptos Dr on Duty. Dr Yien is kind and thoughtful taking time to explain every detail of the care I have obtained and explaining all my test results , and the same is true for my 3 teenagers who also see her . The nursing staff is also very impressive and know me by first name when I enter the office for care. I feel very lucky to have this team as my health care providers. I went to doctors on duty in Aptos for urgent care regarding facial and throat swelling from an allergic reaction. The receptionist told me I'd have to wait an hour and a half to see the doctor and I "could go do errands in the meantime." Within 20 minutes the medical assistant named Chris called me back to the exam room where she promptly took vitals and exhibited the utmost care and concern for my condition. Within minutes Dr. Yien examined me very thoroughly and confirmed a dramatic allergic reaction. Dr. Yien along with the medical assistants, Chris and Giovanni, are the most pleasant, caring, and professional medical crew that I've encountered at a Doctors on Duty location. I had gobe to the Doctors On Duty in watsonville since I live there and had a really bad experience over all! That I was considering on not going to none of the Doctors On Duty locations but decided to go to the one on aptos and I loved it!! The staff is so caring and attended me right away, made me feel super special. I want to give a special thanks for all those three ladies that helped me, Chris, Cristina, and Heather, the doctor. I have seen over 10 medical health professionals, many in alternative fields as well as Western doctors in order to treat a condition, and having had no resolve for the past couple of years I was practically ready to give up. Dr. Karin Yien is the best in the business. After seeing numerous doctors and specialists with zero results, Dr. Yien took on my situation with a calculated,sensible approach. I was about as frustrated as it gets on our first meeting, but after staying after hours with me, I could tell she truly cared about getting me fixed. On August 29th, 2018 I went to Dr.'s On Duty, Aptos, to seek treatment for a severe arm laceration/abrasion. I had the good fortune of having Dr. Karin Tien evaluate my injury. She was amazing! Immediately, Dr. Tien treated me for possible infection, ruling out tetanus and then repaired the skin damage. She was professional, knowledgable, competent, thorough, and so very kind and caring. The staff at Doctors on Duty in Aptos are very good, from the front desk receptionist to the back office nurse to the physician on staff. I received every single referral I've ever asked for and their attention to detail is excellent. My medical records faxed to other providers, no problem. Copies of my lab results for me, no problem.
